- A bereavement counsellor maintains a seemingly normal family and marital life and while pretending to work on a support hotline at night, instead goes out and commits meticulously well-planned murders on adult women.
- Outwardly a respectable young family man and Belfast psychotherapist, in reality Paul Spector is the dangerous stalker of lawyer Sarah Kay, breaking into her flat and stealing her undies. The police are called but fail to persuade Sarah to move out. At the same time local officer Jim Burns calls in his English colleague Superintendent Stella Gibson to assist in solving the murder of architect Alice Monroe. Stella sees links between Alice's slaying and that of Fiona Gallagher and suspects a serial killer though not everybody takes her seriously. On the night that the police are called out to discover a cache of weapons in a car Spector, telling his wife that he is going to do voluntary work, kills Sarah Kay with police officers outside her house and unable to get in.—don @ minifie-1
- The Met's Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson travels to Belfast to assist local police in investigating the murder of Alice Monroe. The case has gone nowhere and the local police admit they have nothing further to go on. She reviews the evidence and suspects this may not have been the killer's first victim. The officer assisting her in the review remember a similar case involving strangulation, that of of university teacher Fiona Gallagher. Gibson tries to convince her local colleague that they have a serial killer but he isn't convinced. Meanwhile, psychologist Paul Spector is stalking attractive young solicitor Sarah Kay. He breaks into her flat and steals some of her underwear while she's out with friends but the police don't make much of it. When the patrol officers overhear Gibson asking for any case reports of break-ins where underwear was stolen but valuables left behind, they decide to pay Sarah Kay visit and see if she's alright.—garykmcd
