(Un)proudly Australian
Simmoose23 December 2022
A likeable and easy enough to watch show. Sara Jane Ho is refreshingly charming and not at all the pompous host one might come to expect for a series about etiquette. The rapport she makes with many of the clients seems very genuine and spirit lifting. What i found very weird though is how the producers seemingly make every effort to disguise the fact that this is clearly filmed in Australia. Instead, scenes from various American cities are inserted to imply (?) that this is where the client now lives. The lighting, flora, street signs and abundance of Aussie accents repeatedly foil their attempts, however.

Stuff taken from a 1980s cosmo magazine

This show was cute with some likeable and relatable stories, There's a whole theme of self acceptance, body positivity, and improving goals. Sara seems so kind and genuine and just overall a classy woman. It had some cute and adult themed jokes. So, I didn't feel like I wasted time watching this show. However, I did had a few issues with the overall show... First it seems like Sarah had been reading some 1980s Cosmo magazines about "how to be a model" and watching too much My Fair Lady or something as there were many "gimmick" etiquette tips. For example walking with a book on your head for posture, saying the tongue twisters "the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain" to help diction, even conversation tips ripped straight off Love on the Spectrum. These "tips" are something most of us already knew and if I was paying big bucks for an etiquette coach and they tried to teach me this I would have laughed.

The other major issue I had with this show is with all the etiquette out there, there were sooooo many repeated "lessons" almost like Sara or the writers ran out of material so not only does she "teach" her solo students but then the lesson is repeated later in the show with her class in the exact same way.

Anyway, overall cute show, and I learned a fact or two but don't expect to watch it and a Queen at your next event because most of the etiquette is basic knowledge or totally useless. Watch it for the heartfelt stories, body positivity and acceptance themes but just know you will probably recognize a lot of "tips" taken directly from other movies, tv shows, social media, and print.

Enjoyable but...
jmcauley-121 November 2022
I enjoyed this show on the whole, especially Sara the etiquette coach who seemed genuine and really wanting to help. However, I had a few issues. There was only one male student in the series. As a man, I would have appreciated more. Some of the etiquette stuff seemed a bit dated. I would have preferred more etiquette about social media, smartphone usage, texting, etc. (I did like the guy's Tinder lesson). Also, they kept showing an image of New York City at the end, but the show does not take place there. The last time I checked, NYC does not have palm trees. This seemed a little disingenuous and pointless. Perhaps if it gets a second season they can do more.

Loved it

I'm here to balance out the previous reviews. Sara's tips seemed outdated because THEY WORK! Sometimes you just gotta get back to the basics. I'm terrible in heels so the heel part really helped. You have to take whatever you need from the show and leave behind the rest. It was cute, funny and educational. Would watch again, FOR SURE!

My husband who works in the restaurant industry says that all of the boys in the kitchen were talking about this show recently. Everyone can benefit from it. I won't give any more on some of the lessons taught but I truly believe that it's necessary for a grown adult to know how to eat at a table.

Great Advice for People Who Want to Get More Out Of Life
blpkst8 December 2022
Sara Jane Ho has some great advice to help navigate the world and elevate your life. She looks perfect and seems like she wouldn't or couldn't relate to regular folk, people unlike herself but she sees people as they are and shows them they can do better and be better. This is not a preachy show, simply, this is the world of etiquette, these are the rules, this is how it is done. It is more than using the correct fork, and how to hold it correctly, yes there is a correct way! It is learning to be comfortable in every situation and making those around you feel comfortable. Life lessons told gently. We meet six individual people who are vastly different from each other with different needs and objectives but all who want to improve themselves. They all realize that by improving themselves their lives will be better. There is one man, Robert, who is shy with women. He has had girlfriends but he wants to improve how he connects with people. The rest are women at various stages in life, one woman who is an older mom and feels she has lost her way. Because Ho insists on seeing where people live she gets insight into who her students are and gets a better understanding of how she can improve their lives. The 50 year old mother lives with her daughter and husband. Discovering there is no table for family meals and conversation Ho makes it clear over the course that this is an important element that must be added to improve life for the whole family. It seems obvious but nothing is obvious to the uninformed.

There are also four other women who meet together for lessons in etiquette. They are Asian women who are navigating between two worlds East and West. This is very interesting and at some points brings her individual student in to meet this group for a lesson.

The show is well thought out. Ho works on an international scale and that's why you'll see the show end with a different skyline showing you that the student she is working with lives in New York, London, San Francisco. Another reviewer was confused by the changing skylines.

Etiquette may seem frivolous to some, but Ho takes her work seriously. She herself is a dedicated student of humanity. She is professional, impeccable and approachable and so is her style and manner. I enjoyed the show more than I thought I would.

Ok, nothing new, propaganda
TsuMoon8 February 2023
I was hoping to learn something new or different, manners used by high class or something along the way. But there was nothing in particular, there are all basic good manners of eating, dressing, standing straight, walking etc.

Surprisingly a lot of Chinese propaganda, grew boring and predictable by episode 3 Chinese tea, chinese tai chi, chinese feng shu, chinese medicine, chinese doctor, chinese cutlery, chinese dumplings, chinese hot water, chinese outfit, chinese this, chinese that. OK I get it. I love the culture, but you don't have to remind me how great and unique and special it is at every 5 minutes. I KNOW, I got it the first time.

And what was the deal with the doctor being like "you seem to have a weak and tired heart" (while pressing on the hand pulse ) "OMG HOW DID YOU KNOW?" ... really now? He just did a very basic checkup, prescribed vitamins and a bit of acupuncture. Relax with the "You cannot hide anything from your Chinese doctor, he know everything! Chinese medicine is the best"

Lovely

This show is lovely and great. The students background touched my heart. The tips are useful and Sara's lessons are inspiring. I found the Feng Shui elements to be awesome as well. I really enjoyed 'Mind Your Manners'. Hopefully, there will be Season 2. Season 1 are just 6 episodes. I need more. As a woman, I'm really inspired when she said, 'There's no ugly woman in this world, just the lazy ones'. For next season, I hope there will be more diversity in terms of races. And I would love to see more male students participate and share their background and how Sara guided them to elevate their lifestyle. At last, Sara Ho is an incredible educator.

Feeds my Queer Eye Fix - Praying for a Season 2!
pygmywolftimberland26 December 2022
This show is so amazing. It focuses on self-love from a traditionalist background, and feels very genuine and heartfelt to me. I love Sara's focus on her client's emotions AND bad habits. She presents a very holistic view of an indivdual's health, and this show itches the same place that Queer Eye does. Nice, holistic health and makeover show that gives you the warm fuzzies.

More to that end: Sara proudly describes her point of view as being distinctly Chinese and incorporates her heritage into her work. This is what changes this Good show into a Great show: the emphasis on connection between the Western and Eastern worlds.

This bridging of communities is at the warm, gooey center of this show. And that's something that the world needs more of!

Furthermore, Sara opened my eyes to a new viewpoint on traditional values and their worth. As a modernist at heart, this was very refreshing and helped me personally to see things in a more holistic light. Just like her amazing business.

I highly and heartily recommend this show.

Entertaining show full of kindness and positivity
kdr505 January 2023
Never heard of Sara Jane Ho until I stumbled on a review of this series, watched it in an afternoon. I hope all her students follow through with the healthy beginnings she made for them. She gets to the heart of the matter it seems, and helps people look for their best selves. She seems sweet and empathetic, stylish and relatable. The short episodes don't go into a lot of depth but are full of positive energy and multi-cultural zest. Her regular etiquette class of older Chinese women join in with each new client, becoming wonderful " aunties" to her lifestyle students, who range from moms looking to regain a sense of self, to a wild child who hides pain under caked on makeup and heavy drink. Worth enjoying for so much human interest. Would like to see a second season.
