People hate change, despite the game being amazing

I have absolutely no idea why more people haven't stepped forward to support this game. The thing about reboots and remakes is people immediately hate them because they're unable to let go of the originals. Reboots serve to bring a new vision forward instead of creating yet another sequel that would disappoint people anyway because it "lacks this" or "lacks that" that was present in the original. So much unnecessary complaining. And then it puts other people off from playing what might just be a terrific game. Take for example the Tomb Raider reboot series. It FAR surpasses the original series. Now take the Resident evil game series that has disappointed fans over and over again by growing further and further away from its roots and becoming an action shooter. I personally don't see anything wrong with that since it is made up for with the Revelations spin-off games, but my point is, Capcom would be better off to do a reboot than make another sequel, because the direction they have taken isn't working in their favor anymore. But let me get to this game, and why I feel that it should be played and appreciated. First, the new Dante is an instant winner. He's snarky, foul-mouthed, confident and looks pretty damn good with and without his shirt on. I might stand alone on this, but I actually prefer the new, younger Dante. The combat is as shallow or layered as you want it to be, with dozens upon dozens of different combo techniques for you to discover and become an unstoppable force or you could just mash the slash over and over and not get the full experience. The traversal and platforming is decent although a tad unfair in certain spots. The world of limbo is hellish and unique, especially an entire section where you traverse a massive nightclub in limbo or a mirrored upside down cityscape. The soundtrack pumps life and energy into every battle and action-filled cutscene, especially during the final boss battles. Speaking of boss battles, they are complex but not too complex, each one having its weak spots that higher difficulties demand you to find. The bosses themselves are well designed and there is a beauty in their grotesque appearance. The dialogue and voice acting is sharp, witty and often hilarious and adds a level of depth and a sense of humor to what might have been dull and uninteresting characters. The plot itself is surprisingly intricate for a Capcom game, with cutscenes that drive the story forward and flesh Dante out instead of merely serving to bring you to the next battle. The difficulty isn't as extreme as other Devil May Cry games and makes it more accessible to people who play rather for fun rather than a challenge. However, the higher difficulties do serve to satisfy those who seek them. All in all, DmC is a more than worthy reboot to a franchise that deserved one, and I stand behind the new Dante and hope to see more of him in a sequel. If any game deserves one, this is it.

Refreshing

A good entry point for thise pondering whether to risk a chance on the series. Not without its backlash the game does have some upsides with the story being fairly interesting even if it's just a rehash of the earlier instalments. A more westernised release there's an added level of ease but is generally quite fun to play, worth a risk

Great reimagining of the series

I don't get it, is it really every game series have crazy fans who's aggressively refuse to accept any major differences to their favourite game series? Why there is so many negative reviews? Everyone whining like this game called DMC 5, but it's not, this is just a reimagining of the series, like a spin-off or something, why taking this that serious?

Game looking good, average plot, and FUN gameplay, various enemies and fighting styles, one con is that it's not hard in some moments, more casual or arcade style maybe. I liked all hard boss fights in the previous games, but I got some fun playing this more casual one as well, so I don't see the problem here

Reboot, re-vamp

This is one of those games that I always wanted to play, but didn't get around to playing when it first came out. It's now 2021 and I am playing this game for the first time. I was a big fan of the first three original Devil May Cry games on PS2 and I never played Devil May Cry 4 mainly as I never got around to play it and it's trailers did not appeal to me too much even till this day.

This DMC "reboot" however, is a very, VERY challenging game to play. Like DMC 3 this is a very hard game to get through. Even in normal mode. If you're just looking to play for fun, try it on easy "human" mode, which is still not so easy as you may think. As the old DMC games before this, this game is all about the button smashing and combat style. However, there are too many combos to remember and too many new actions to adapt to while playing through out this game.

This game can get both repetitive and frustrating at the same time very quickly. It's the kind of game that you can play for an hour or hour and a half and you will feel like you have reached your limit of playing for each session and yet maybe later in the day or the next day you will be eager to get back to it for another hour or two if you can muster the will.

Aside from this, the visuals for this game stand out and it's quite a marvel for a game that came out back in 2013. The story itself is not so bad and it gives an interesting new take compared to the old DMC games before it. Still, there are a few aspects of the storytelling that may be hit and miss for many. I would not be surprised if some people gave up on this game along the way or just simply played it one time and never again afterwards. The game is just a very challenging one to get through and some bosses are not easy to figure out how to beat as it is. The story doesn't keep you as interested and you just want to play and get through the game instead of sitting through the story. Still, the story is not so bad if you give it a chance.

Overall, even though this is a very challenging game, this is a solid fun to play and beautiful game to look at. It may not be an easy game to play but it continues the traditional DMC games that were hard but worthwhile. This game is not for every one but if you enjoy the old DMC games or games like the Bayonetta series this might be down your alley. I rate it 7 out of 10 stars.

It's OK.

It's OK, I guess. I enjoyed it for what it was but didn't find it to be overly enjoyable or even memorable. I guess I'd still recommend it to fans of the series and genre alike.

Judged it by its cover only to be surprised.

I have to admit, that I hated the concept of this revamp when I first saw the previews but after playing it, it definitely grew on me. But let me first explain why I took to an immediate dislike. Dante's look. Wth is with the Edward Cullen makeover? He looks awful!! He looks like an emo- drug dealer. The white haired devil from the previous games was so appealing. And his costume was horrible. The only redeemable look that comes from this game, is Dante with the same short hair, but it's colored white and he's wearing clothes from the Matrix (when the crew is in the real world) and a pair of converse. I will only play the game if he's wearing that outfit. So that was disappointing. Even knowing that the game was starting from scratch, I expected some continuity from the original series but I didn't get any. However, after playing the game all the way through, I was surprisingly pleased with the overall product. Changing the storyline so that Sparta wasn't this all- powerful demon; not so much a bad thing. It's a less appealing image of him, but more sensible as far as establishing that the villain is the most powerful to overcome. As much as I love the other games, I always found it somewhat off that Mundus is the Deil himself yet one of his own demons (only one mind you) was powerful enough to fight the entire Underworld and defeat him. So now instead of Dante and Virgil's all powerful-Ness coming solely from their father, it comes from their Angel mother as well. That aspect works. As does the storyline. It was actually pretty good considering. Not nearly as fantastical as the others but definitely more realistic and explains how these battles take place in modern times without stirring the public. The game-play was very challenging and tough to get used to. But once you get the hang of it, it's actually very satisfying. Playing without a lock-on system is probably the most difficult but can be overlooked once you get the hang of the weapons. Going back to Dante, I don't like that the character lost so much of his charisma. Yea he's still cool because he kicks ass and talks smack but there was definitely an aspect of growth in the character spanning across the original series. He grew in wisdom and eventually became the guy with the answers and the plans. But now he's actually not that intelligent and just follows others lead- not great qualities for a main character. (especially since the lead he was originally following becomes his arch-enemy. So what would future games look like if he needs to be lead and no one's there to lead him?)/ Onto Virgil, I have no complaints. I do miss the cold, calculating Samurai-Esq warrior but the added characteristics make the character sympathetic and almost relatable. And he's still bad-ass enough to root for. The characters were definitely likable (particularly Phineas.) Overall, there are aspects that could have been done differently but Instill believe that there is enough of a solid story and great game-play to constitute a follow up game and it's too bad that there hasn't been one.

Good graphics and gameplay, but the characters and story is a shell of its former self. Basically, they sonic boom the characters enough said.

For the longest time I've hated this game (as I've hated this game ever since the 2010 trailer up to now). My hatred may seem irrational (and I won't lie, it somewhat is) but I do have legitimate reasons to hate it. I have played the demo and saw videos of the full game (which all it is is an extended version of the demo, the only real difference is a few additional and negligible weapons) 1. The story is god awful and full of holes (And this is all coming from the guy who said he would create a video game story that could rival Hollywood movies, disregarding the fact that video game stories already have done that in the past) and pretty much all the characters are outright unlikeable. 2. While on a surface level the control scheme is the same, there are notable changes that are just f***ing terrible. I mean why the hell do I have to hold down the shoulder button to switch stances? Enjoy your carpal tunnel by the way Why are there two dodge buttons? Why is there no manual lock-on button? Also devil trigger is not it's own dedicated button? If you're playing this game after having beaten all four of the original Devil May Cry games, this is utterly jarring and in general is bad game design. 3. The washed out colors of the environments is a real eyesore and I have to look away from the screen every 15 minutes and the unreal engine looks utterly terrible in this game (I mean like even worse than usual, most other games tend to have passable visuals using the UE), stick to the MT Framework Capcom. 4. Color Coded enemies. WTF IS THIS!? I've come across a hack n' slash game that basically makes half your arsenal useless against certain enemies. Who's F***ing idea was this? 5. Tameem and his wretched f***ing PR. How does this dibs*** still have a job after having made 4 games, none of which have broke even? The more I have to think about it the more it pisses me off. 6. The fans. It's OK to like this game, that's your opinion but when you tell me to my face to go f*** myself for saying I like the previous games a million times more that's where I have to draw the line. It's already hard to believe people believe this better than either DMC1, 3, or 4 individually but if you wanna tell me it's better than all 3 combined, then just stop talking to me OK. 7. "I don't care if it sells 1000 copies or a million..." That one was for s***s and giggles and hopefully a wake up call for Capcom to get their act together.

If you like it more power to you, just don't try to force me to like it.
