After Jane Halifax testifies that a man accused of stalking is just a harmless pest, the woman he stalked is shot, and the evidence points to him. After he is arrested, Jane starts to think that the police have got the wrong man.
On the tenth anniversary of her father's death, Jane is approached by an old friend of her father. She asks Jane to assess a thirteen year old girl accused of murdering an eight year old.
