8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown is and will always be, one of my favorite quiz shows.

It is so funny, each episode in a different way, some more than others, but they never fail to make me giggle.

Jimmy Carr does a great job as host, and still manages to stay funny and quick to comment. Jon and Sean are both some of my favorite comedians, they are always very clever and very funny, and actually fairly good at countdown, which is quite nice.

Last but not least: the format. The general format of Countdown really hits the spot with me. Sitting at home, trying to get a better word than they do, is so much fun.

All in all a great show!

What is there more to say than what was written in the title? The show's host Jimmy Carr is a quick thinker, which allows him to make incredibly funny jokes all while retaining the edgy, dark humour he is known for. The scripted skits that take place while participants are writing down their answers are crazily ridiculous. Resident team captains Sean Lock and Jon Richardson have such strong chemistry with each other that I'd have a hard time imagining comedians that would be better in their place. All the while there is still the classic rounds of Countdown being played that many know and love, all starring the same lexicographer Suzie Dent, and presenter/mathematician Rachel Riley.

The entire show feels genuine, which is an important achievement that some panel shows have an issue with. In conclusion, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown lives up to the hype as one of the pinnacles of British panel shows.

I don't watch the original Countdown as I'm not really into quiz shows. But this is a little bit different. It's a panel show comedy blended with the Countdown quiz format.

Jimmy Carr is the host. Well, he hosts everything doesn't he? He's a terrific comedian. I've been to see him at a few live shows and he is just a good, old fashioned, joke teller. He does that on this show and he throws in some mockery as well. The 2 teams get mocked and the show's resident maths and English experts get it too. Rachel Riley and Suzie Dent take the mocking in good jest - considering that straight-laced Suzie Dent is frequently mocked for being a nymphomaniac and a terrible author. She's not, of course, but Jimmy Carr ensures it's all lighthearted fun.

Sean Lock is great as one of the team leaders. Often portrayed is a miserable old git. He plays the role well. Another comedian who is terrific live.

Anyway, I rarely participate in the quiz aspect and just wait for the jokes to arrive. Highly recommended.

When the hole world seems to be collapsing around you this is the most fantastic uplifting program it makes me cry with happiness.

A very funny show that always makes me laugh until Joe Wilkinson comes on. It might be me but I just don't find him funny.

Great combo of a panel show and a game show,both aspects of the show works well with a great cast but.... There is one huge negative with this show and that's Joe Wilkinson. I can't stress enough how terrible this guy is, he's so cringeworthy that I dread every second he's on and he almost drains the life out of a great show.

I absolutely love Jimmy Carr and he is well suited to hosting this show. Jon Richardson is just the icing on the cake, with his nerdy weirdness.

You really never know what to expect each episode. But I do love how Jimmy loves to try and distract the celebrities from doing the words or numbers by doing stupid antics as the countdown clock is ticking down.

Sometimes I remember to give the word puzzles a go and I have been trying the sums as well. But most of the time I just watch it for a laugh. I think the good thing about this cross over show is that it has brought Countdown over to a crowd that possibly would not have bothered to watch it before.

Crossover shows are an interesting beast as popular programmes are combined and it is compelling to see how their individual styles play off one another to create something truly unique on its own. While there have been successful examples of such shows because of this, there have also been failures as the styles of the individual shows don't mix well together, creating something that can be tedious and awkward to watch. Therein lies the problem with this show: while Countdown is always enjoyable, the 8 Out Of 10 Cats element slightly suffers due to humour that is mildly amusing at best and completely unfunny at worst.

That is the main part of the show that works, as with all good game shows, it is always engaging to try and play along by finding the words, working out the sums with the numbers and working out the conundrum. Meanwhile working out the Teatime Teasers (where you work out a conundrum set by the show during the break) is interesting, despite the quite juvenile clues which often sounds like something written by an immature teenager looking for cheap laughs. It is a great format that works well in its original form, and works mostly fine here too.

However its the 8 Out Of 10 Cats element that lets the side down, as doesn't work as well. While Jimmy Carr and the gang can be funny at times, they clearly aren't on top form here. This is due to how the humour either ranges from annoyingly quirky (highlighted with the random antics that Jimmy does during the Countdown games that can sometimes distract from playing along with the game itself) to generically safe and bland. Guest comedians they bring in, like Joe Wilkinson and Lee Mack, don't help matters as they usually don't tickle the funnybone either. And the previously mentioned juvenile Teaser gags don't work either as they are more concerned with appealing to the lowest common denominator by being stupidly crass and opposed to relying on clever humour. That is my biggest problem with the show as a whole: while the original Countdown format is always engaging and it can be humorous here and there, the lack of strong comedy (or any edge for that matter) spoils it.

It doesn't help that the pacing is slightly off as since the laughs are few and far between a lot of the time, the pacing can feel quite slow at points while you wait for the actual game to start. The fact that there are cases where it takes over ten minutes for the games to get going doesn't help this fact. It just feels quite slow and you would wish they would get started already.

However, it isn't all bad. As I've said, there can be very funny parts on the show (Joe Lycett's story about receiving an e-mail from a drunk fan in a recent episode is priceless) and the Countdown format, regardless of this variant, is always watchable. Adding in some familiar faces from the original show (like the Dictionary Corner's Susie Dent and the ever so beautiful Rachel Riley) is a nice touch and gives it some familiarity for Countdown fans who may be initially alienated by this variation of it, and even if irritating at points, it can be quite entertaining to see how badly some celebrities are at the game.

As such, I feel that while this show is a decent attempt at a crossover, it is seriously lacking in some areas but mainly in humour and edge. For a supposed comedic panel show, the humour is too sporadic to be consistently funny and the lack of edge to the humour makes it slightly bland at points especially considering how risqué the comedians have been previously (mainly Jimmy Carr). However, the good jokes and the game itself are always engaging and worth watching on that basis alone. Because of this, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown isn't a complete failure, but it perhaps didn't need anything more than its initial one off status, and there isn't much worthwhile here to convince you of otherwise. Just stick with the original shows instead.

As far as comedy gameshows go, this is one of the best out there. The rules of Countdown are stretched enough if not broken for some of the comedians playing the game. The regular panelists are always quick witted and hilarious, whether it's outright jokes or some skits. It's bound to get a few laughs, a highly amusing way to spend a Friday night. Jimmy Carr has some of the best panelist intros in British comedy, especially when the other panelists can dish out some of the most savage comebacks and put downs. They manage to maintain a consistent level of back and forth so it never becomes tiring or overdone.

The first two seasons of 8OOTCDC would rank as some of my favourite ever TV. The world's best game show injected with some dry British wit and a healthy dollop of toilet humour. David Mitchell and Joe Wilkinson are particularly good guests, although the unwitting star of the show is the highly charming Susie Dent who innocently tends to her lexicography in face of all the vulgarity around her.

Unfortunately, the show withers over time and has clearly gone on way too long. The jokes become repetitive and Jimmy Carr's lines are heavily scripted. The same guests are endlessly recycled and a great number of them are not very funny to begin with. Jon Richardson is a particularly bland regular feature and probably should have been axed after the first season.

Solid entertainment but too repetitive for a binge-watch.

This bizarre merge of 8 Out of 10 Cats and Countdown began when Channel 4 did mash-ups of various programmes of theirs. This is the only one that was turned into a series. It doesn't work most of the time, because 8 Out of 10 Cats is a lighthearted comedy show aimed at young adults - whereas Countdown is a serious show aimed the elderly.

As with 8 Out of 10 Cats, some episodes are considerably better than others - depending on who is in that episode.

Its a great show BUT the long winded story telling moments usually from the person next to susie is annoying, cant remember how many times i have skipped that bit, other then that, amazing show.

If you struggle to compose words longer than four or five letters and cannot perform basic arithmetic without the use of a calculator, then this show is for you, dummy! Asides from the obnoxiously unfunny and uncharismatic "celebrity" guests who appear on the show ad nauseam, is the constant smutty, sleazy and sexist undertones to this awful show. Stick with the original, "Countdown" (No sleaze, no smut; actually intellectual)

Why do they have to use such filthy language. Cant people have fun without having such a potty mouth? Maybe the panel should all take a dictionary home, and find some new words
