This episode of "The American Experience" is an important one for two reasons. First, the so-called 'lie detector' is a uniquely American thing and other countries have not used it. Second, it's unreliable and often has been used to prosecute people even though it isn't very accurate.
The episode spends much of the time discussing the creation of the machine and three men who were connected with this. They each had varying degrees to which they believed the machine worked. Additionally, the show talks about the widespread use and abuse of the machined.
Overall a very informative and well made episode...one that is pretty convincing. Well worth seeing.
