She has got to find the river

Warning: Spoilers
"The River" is an American 12-minute live action short film in the English language and this one was released back in 2013, so it had its 5th anniversary last year. The writer and director is Sam Handel and this is only his second filmmaking effort and since then, there have been no new projects apparently. It surprises me a bit because here he got a really strong cast on board. The lead actress is Emmy nominee Lauren Ambrose from Six Feet Under. Oscar nominee Adam Driver plays a store clerk. Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall from Dexter is on board as well and I also appreciated Jay O. Sanders early on who may have the second most screen time after Ambrose and is an actor I always like when I see him and immediately recognize. Surprising he does not have any awards recognition whatsoever according to imdb, also in terms of nominations only. Okay, back to the movie itself. It is about a very pregnant woman who struggles on a truly hot day and all she wants is get to the nearby river and take a swim to cool herself down a bit. On the road to there, she has to face a handful of obstacles though, well human obstacles you could say as they are all a bunch of men. I liked the discussion at the beginning of being vat vs. being pregnant. It is a fairly entertaining little film, no huge depth here, but works for sure for under 20 minutes, also thanks to the known names attached to the project. And the ending is incredibly soothing that you would want to jump in the water yourself on a warm day, pregnant or not. I say check this one out.
