Red hot anger
shwetafabm24 June 2020
I love Garth. Dean was too mean to him but that's the character when someone tries to make him talk and the whole Bobby thing. I would like to see a lot more of Garth but i think he doesn't appear much later on. The Sam and Dean conflict was kinda irritating in S7 but its going strong here. Oh boy. I'm rewatching this and i didn't even remember Amy but boy is that an issue that keeps being brought up.

Not a bad episode!
mm-399 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode. I hate Bobby's replacement, Garth, but they are trying to bring the Y generation into the show. Southern Comfort is about a spirit/cursed object which is causing rage/murder on residents of a town. The boys and Mr Y Gen, Garth, must figure out what to do. The plot is the usual resolve a problem episode. The side story has some character development where Garth and Dean can not get along. The tension between the two characters create comic relief for the storyline. Garth does have some good ideas and points and is somewhat accepted by Dean. The story of the new guy versus old is interesting. I give Southern Comfort a seven out of ten. Not a bad show.

Garth shines in this, nice twist on a ghost episode.
CubsandCulture31 August 2020
This is one of the stronger ghost episodes in part because the specter is a engaging variance on the ghost template the show uses. Given how much the show is about two brothers' frayed relationship it was only a matter of time a Civil War ghost was brought up. And this episode delivers what you would expect with the tie-in. It is one of those well balanced episodes in which the case of the week blends seamlessly with the ongoing melodrama. Th script keeps it fairly light and of course Garth.

Garth's presence is always welcomed. He is as funny here as he normally is. Best of all, this episodes have one the few times that Dean and his excessive self-pity, egotism gets called out justifiably. It gives the episode just enough weight to be memorable.

Love the Sam Dean tension spilling over the episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is already in the list of my favs in Supernatural history. I mean common, it was so smoking hot to see the brothers fight each other out verbally & physically in a suite ! - I mean, the visual effect was entertaining :) Coming to Garth - the comedy factor is added. & there was a gud Soundgarden score - the SPN choice of music being almost absent thru S7.

Minus point - the end reminded me a bit 2much of a similar conversation in S5 E5 (Fallen Idol). However, the look of desperation that flashes on Dean's face as he wants to hang on to his brother & make it like the good old days is so moving; esp the fact that despite nodding his head to accept Sam as he is now, it is clear that Dean wants to just shrug off every thing and sweep it under the mat.

Garth steals the show
nakrugt4 November 2022
Garth does really steal the show, and I do not mean as a replacement for Bobby, no. I think he is a surprisingly great addition to the show.

I am writing this, of course, two years after the show ended, so I do not know if he appeared in more episodes or not. But he just fits in the show perfectly.

The first work that I watched DJ Qualls in was, I think, an interesting science-fiction movie called The Core. I am not sure if you have watched it or not, in that film, he steals the light, the show, as well.

I have just checked and that film has a score of 5.5, which is far too lower than it deserves, by the way.

I think he has appeared in three episodes so far in the show, and I hope he will become (well, became) a regular later on.

Disgusting

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what's with producers, but they pour a lot of stinky stuff in the episodes. Starts with one fat ugly guy armpits, the woman from Kroatoan episode who smashed him with the car, and that skinny kid Garth eating with open mouth... Well I could stand him by now, him and his eccentric style, being an erd, but that crossed the line.

Being Bobby, hell no, he might used to walk around all in machine oil and old hat, but never had that dirty expression and vision. I hate the kid.

Compared to the previous episode, this one sucks for a big time. Sometimes I wonder how so weak moments could be in such great series.
