I'm not sure exactly what I thought a Pete Davidson series would be like, but - the first episode made me laugh aloud and the second has brought tears to my eyes.

It's surprising how much heart is in Davidson's work - and the level of commitment by each actor sort of plants the characters in your head, so that you can't just turn your mind to other things once the show is over. AMAZING cast lists, by the way - Edie Falco, Bobby Cannavale, Joe Pesci, Steve Buschemi, Jane Curtain, Brad Garrett - and, of course, Pete Davidson, always funny but never hesitating to stand back and letting them all work utter magic - honestly, I'm speechless. Impressive, appealing work.

Give Bobby Cannavale *all* the awards.

Seriously, Bobby Cannavale is such a delight in this episode. He goes from unhinged to maudlin so well and makes you really understand the character in a short amount of time. I don't think I'd care for this episode if not for him.

...And that's because Pete Davidson just can't stop going to the "my dad died on 9/11" well. Jesus, how many times are we going to have to watch this story from him? Yes, losing your father at a young age changes you. I lost mine when I was 11; I get it. But he's basically leveraged the 9/11 aspect into an entire career, and it's so very stale at this point. It's the "I threw 4 touchdowns in 1 game at Polk High" of Pete's life.

I will admit, however, that it was very sweet to see the actual photos of Pete at the end.
