Warning: Spoilers
Christian right-wing propaganda. The couple are very religious and their faith is constantly mentioned, and in the grossest ways. Like if a woman has emotions that are out of line with her husband then it's an affront to god. Or if married couples aren't constantly trying to have babies then they may as well worship Satan or something. There is a strong anti-choice message. Also a strong message that a woman has little to no value outside of childbirth. A woman in her 30s who can't have kids is literally presented as the equivalent of an old, broken drip coffee maker that needs to be replaced. The husband wants to "fix the old one" instead and that makes him some kind of sacrificial hero? They go to a state adoption facility and are unwilling to accept a minority child, child with any special needs, a sibling group, or anything that isn't a pure white christian baby (and said healthy white babies are referred to as "perfect" while the others are presented as decidedly NOT perfect). And watching, you can tell that all the people involved in making this movie were completely oblivious to the thought that any of this might be the least bit wrong. Through all the garbage the constantly spout, they keep saying the word "god" so their movie must be a nice, positive one, right? Aside from that, it's low-production: daytime soap-level dialogue, Hallmark channel-level music score. The main characters are so shallow and narcissistic, plus they're constantly whining and just impossible to care about. Spoiler alert: They don't end up having a kid. They don't even snap out of their bigoted stance and adopt a kid. They just decide to deal with never having a kid and playing with their nieces/nephews instead. Then a christian rock song plays and everything is going to be great. It's just the worst.
