Darren Lynn Bousman, who has directed several films in the “Saw” franchise, will direct the first film as part of a new horror franchise about the Lalaurie Mansion, a haunted house that still stands in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
“The Conjuring” writers Chad and Carey Hayes first announced back in 2019 that they were writing and developing a series of films all inspired by the house and the history of its crazed owner, Madame Delphine Lalaurie. Bousman will direct the first film in the planned franchise. No other casting or planned start dates were made clear.
The Lalaurie Mansion is considered one of the most haunted houses in the world and has been closed to the public since 1932, but it remains a popular tourist attraction. The house’s owner Madame Lalaurie was a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered enslaved persons hidden away in her...

In 1980, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren visited the property of the Glatzel family in Connecticut after their 11-year-old son, David Glatzel, claimed to have been attacked by the spirit of an angry older man on their newly acquired rental property. The man reportedly had "big black eyes, a thin face with animal features and jagged teeth, pointed ears, horns, and hoofs," resembling the devil. Soon after the encounter, the family moved into the property and David began to exhibit strange behavior, including growling, hissing, and reciting passages in sinister voices from the Bible or Paradise Lost. Convinced their son was under demonic possession, the Glatzels contacted the Warrens, who suspected multiple possessions and attempted to help David by performing three exorcisms on him.
During the third installment of the Conjuring series, The Devil Made Me Do It, the disturbing real-life recording of one of David's exorcisms is played over the end credits.

This article features The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It spoilers. The piece also contains information regarding violence and abuse that may upset some readers.
Director Michael Chaves and company are not subtle about their influences in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. It’s there in the first scene. As we’re reintroduced to Ed and Lorraine Warren, darkness has fallen over a family, and a Satanic presence is in the home. A young child lays bedridden, cursed to endure demonic possession, and an old priest arrives late in the foggy night. When Father Gordon gets out of his cab, The Conjuring even reenacts an image so famously associated with The Exorcist that Warner Bros. made it that movie’s poster almost 50 years ago.
But maybe it’s a good thing The Conjuring flicks are getting blunter about who they’re borrowing from. The earlier movies...

This article contains The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It spoilers.
Though the latest Conjuring movie, The Devil Made Me Do It, is named after the Arne Johnson murder case, whereby a young man claimed the crime he committed was caused by demonic possession, there’s an entirely new subplot that carries the body of the new film.
After the supposedly possessed Arne Johnson is held in custody awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend’s landlord, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are on a mission to discover how and why these possessions took place. While the Johnson case is based on real events, the reasons behind the possession, as posed within The Devil Made Me Do It, are completely fictional.
No matter! This allows the filmmakers to introduce the shadowy figure of The Occultist (played by Eugenie Bondurant), as well as...

The box office is becoming a scary place these days. And for the first time in a long time, it’s scary in a good way. Just a week after A Quiet Place Part II lured the horror faithful back into darkened multiplexes, the latest chapter in the hit husband-and-wife demonologist saga, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, scared its way to a No. 1 opening in North America with a stronger-than-anticipated $24 million debut weekend.
The latest film in Warner Bros. and New Line’s fright franchise is the third official Conjuring film starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as married paranormal sleuths, but the eighth overall when you factor in such spin-offs as the Annabelle movies, The Nun, and La Llorona—which combine to make up what we’ll call The Conjuring Cinematic Universe. Together, they make up the top-grossing horror franchise of all time with $1.9 billion at the global box office.

Memorial Day weekend gave us proof that audiences are ready to return to the cinemas, as long as there is strong enough content to draw them in. With an overall weekend haul of $80.6 million, over 85% of which came from A Quiet Place Part II and Cruella, the domestic box office saw its best weekend since March 2020. While a repeat of the holiday weekend’s numbers is unlikely, AQP2 will battle it out with this week’s major newcomer, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, to lead another weekend that shows the business continues on its road to recovery.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is the third proper Conjuring film, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returning as the demonologist couple, and it is the eighth film overall in the Conjuring universe. The series’ top opener was The Nun with $53.8 million, followed by the first two...
