Violent, bloody and messy
Horst_In_Translation12 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, this film turns out as a great example of how lots of violence, screaming, drama and tragedy do not necessarily have to result in a quality movie, even if it is only barely 12 minutes long. Without a plot summary, it's rather unclear to find out what really is going on and the bleak atmosphere doesn't make you particularly interested in rewatching, so things may become clearer on second viewing.

I read that the originally-planned director had to cancel because of illness, which may not have been the worst decision. On the other hand maybe it would have turned out better than under his replacement. While the acting was not the worst, the script just felt way too messy to appreciate this short film and even the character's heavy crying doesn't really ring a bell emotionally. I can't recommend this short film. The only kinda good thing is the makeup.

Didn't understand it

I was recommended to watch this film two months ago by a colleague of mine at work. It's only took me this long just to write a basic review about the film but that's because it took me a long time to understand the point of the story. Let me start off by being a little generous (given the fact I rated it 3). The acting is very good and that's probably the reason I didn't go far to rate it 1. I really felt their anxiety and anger between each other and the things around them. I also felt a little claustrophobic with their performances and I guess due to the mood of the film they did that correctly. I haven't seen much of Tom's films but this is the best thing David Blood has been in. What I was disappointed about was pretty much 90% of the film. I HATED the cinematography! I couldn't be more aggressive about that simply because it kept fading/blurring out of focus and that really badly distracted me, taking me out of the story in so many ways - characters coming in and out etc. It didn't work and it just reminded me that this is nothing more of a student film AT BEST! Going back to my summary title "Didnt understand it" it's dead on. It's exactly what I think of the film as a whole in no more than 3 words. I despised the storyline. It's too short, too vague, clumsy and you simply couldn't tell what the hell was going on. It's just a giant mind-f**k to the poor audience and not in a good way. The only thing I understood that the main guy acting in it (Tom) was also the writer? Should probably stick to just acting if this is his first attempt.

Once I finished watching it I immediately stopped caring. Maybe it's because the characters and story didn't deliver what it's supposed to do: tell a story. I didn't quite get what was going on (if they were brothers or if they had a serious issue with their mum) I was trying to figure out what was going on rather than enjoying the damn piece. The ending is totally unreadable too as it's clearly supposed to be a cliffhanger, but cliffhangers can be satisfying to the audience. This I can assure you was not. I seriously wouldn't watch this film if I were you, because overall it was simply because it was unclear and pointless. Case closed! Phew, It took me two months to eventually write this review. Now I can spend my nights sleeping rather than screaming into a pillow.
