Low budget but great
jason_hennah15 February 2013
A great low budget show that shows that you can do so much with so little. A great mix of anime style super hero comedy that us 90's kids grew up with. Worth a watch if you're into indie work that's also high quality with a decent enough script. Character depth isn't too detailed due to the length of each episode but still deep enough for you to connect with them. Design is great, with a real home grown super hero look we all tried to pull off when younger. Defiantly connects with the child within so would be great for younger viewers too. Also the fact it's filmed locally and I know some of the areas makes it more enjoyable to watch. Can not wait for the nest batch of episode.

Weird, wacky, watchable!

This wacky web series addresses two young guys quest to become real life superheroes!

Told in 7 short episodes it follows Blue Steel and his weird (and possibly slightly special) sidekick Red Berry as they try to capture local menace Loud Howard and his magic megaphone. But Blue has to deal with a rival superhero called Nite Hawk and contend with his mean chubby room mate (who is always seen sporting his bathrobe?!) all the while unknowingly ignoring the romantic advances of a pretty girl in a pink cat hat.

Well I've seen every episode and I have to say I was impressed, the costumes are amazing! and music is really well done and blends well into each section! The acting is well done and believable, each character is totally bonkers in their own way but each one is played with conviction which makes them all the funnier. The camera work isn't great at times though, which I would say might be one of the show's very few shortcomings. One thing I was pleasantly surprised at was the special effects which looked great considering the budget, I really enjoyed the strange cartoon alter-egos of the main characters that occasionally popped up and like the retro and quirky noises used to enhance the cartoonish vibe of the show. The show is quite clearly inspired by anime and as a genuine animeophile I can say I found these nods to popular works like Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop and School Rumble well done and enjoyable!

To finish, this is a quality show and for the budget it had is better than some of the trash on TV these days! I would recommend giving it a watch if you fancy something unusual and are a fan of comic books, anime or just plain weirdness!

nostalgia filled web series with easily enough charm and humour for the best of us

If you are looking for a web series with T.V level film and sound quality, you are better off looking elsewhere. But for the rest of you, be rest assured that the gritty camera style works - somewhat in a similar way to 'Clerks' in the 90's (not to mention the fact that like Clerks, the series embraces all things geeky with enough references to rival the amount used by Tarantino).

The characters are charming, the costumes creative and the acting perfect. Not in the sense that the acting or dialogue is truly believable - not at all in fact. Blue Steel is a fiction story in a non fiction world, and the character's personalities emulate comic book heroes, with a dash of 80's cheese (think 16 candles, breakfast club etc). It is not a parody, rather a pastiche to certain films and genres that the creators plainly adore.

All in all, excluding a few minor flaws (we will forgive them for the odd stretch without action) Blue Steel is a charming and creative watch and should be enjoyed by many. Bring on series 2.

Blue Steel a hidden gem
m_imdb-609-53522015 February 2013
Blue Steel is a fantastic web series - low budget yes - but that is made up for by the sheer creativity and determined nature of the team involved to create something special that any audience would enjoy.

Blue Steel has something for everyone, appealing to the inner superhero hidden in all of us. Sure, its different, and sure for people with no imagination it may be difficult to grasp - but for anyone who loves to be emerged in a story that transports them into a far more interesting, exciting world - then this is for you.

I've heard on the grapevine we may be hearing more about Blue Steel in the near future which is really exciting and nothing less than those involved deserve.

10/10 Im looking forward to the teams next adventure.

Local heroes

An amazing web series that goes to show what a dedicated group of friends can do. The location work is always well chosen. The fact that everything from the Enchanted Forest to Blue's flat was shot within a 10 mile radius is incredible. Even compared to programmes made with a much higher budget, the special effects are excellent - especially when fantasy and reality begin to blur. The plot reveals just enough each episode to keep you guessing and then adds twists later on. Despite fantasy elements the characters still feel real with natural language, which is a credit to both writers and actors. Each character has a chance to develop and none are entirely one dimensional. Misunderstood teen or evil inherent? Horrible boss or over-stressed manager? Society restorer or supervillain? It's these psychological questions that I enjoyed the most. Question reality and the nature of heroism!
