Finn notices that Artie appears to have in an accident. He blames falling on the ice and the lack of proper ramps. He had to be helped up by freshman girls and is reaching the breaking point of being in his chair.
Artie daydreams about not being in his chair. He wakes up in the nurses office and walks down the hallway. Rory is there as his Christmas guardian angel, showing him what would have happened if he'd never been in the accident. Tina is still stuttering, Becky is a pregnant slut, Kurt is a whipping boy and Puck and Finn are jerks. Will is an alcoholic who never started Glee and is still married. Rachel is a librarian. Only Brittany seems to be unchanged. All of it is because Artie's relationship with them wasn't the same.
Artie meets with everyone and tells them about what happened in the alternate universe where they were in Glee. Artie gives an enthusiastic rendition of "Feliz Navidad." Finn isn't impressed.
Artie spots a chair in the hallway. It's Quinn's. She was never able to walk and ended up dying. Artie sits down in the chair and wakes up with a better attitude. On the way out of the nurse's office he rings a little bell on the Christmas tree.
Rachel and Kurt discuss their Christmas plans. Kurt is planning to stay there for the holiday. Burt shows up unexpectedly with a tree. They talk about family memories before Rachel leaves for a cruise.
Kurt and Burt go to see a musical, then grab some hot chocolate. Burt tells him he has prostate cancer, but says it's been caught early. Kurt is worried because of Burt's heart issues. Later that night they exchange gifts. Burt is given a NYADA hat and shirt. Burt's gift for Kurt needs to be picked up at an address. It's Blaine, waiting for him at the ice skating rink. They skate and sing "White Christmas." Afterwards Blaine says they will always be there for one another no matter what happens.
Puck comes to Jake's defense when he's made fun of for his religion and race. Puck says in part he's in town to help him. He wants Jake to join him in California.
In California Puck brings him to a meeting on Paramount's lot. Puck grabs guitars and they sing "Chanukah, O Chanukah." Puck brings Jake to a house where he's been cleaning the pool. This lie results with Puck being honest about how rough things have been for him. Jake wants him to come back with him to Lima for Christmas.
Back in Lima the Puckermans have dinner at Breadsticks. Their mothers, who don't care for one another, argue over the boys' father. Jake's mother tells Puck's mother that she didn't know Jake's father was married, and he never wore a wedding ring. The boys try to convince them that at the end of the day their father ran out on all of them. The mothers end up friendly.
Brittany is handing out preposterously expensive gifts to everybody. The week before she heard about the Mayan apocalypse and decided to cash out her savings and share the money with her friends. Sam tells her he believes the Mayans as well. They start a club which basically consists of them being brutally honest with their friends. Sam and the Cheerios sing "Jingle Bell Rock" to Brittany. Afterwards Sam proposes, saying he'd like to marry her before the world ends.
Coach Beiste marries Sam and Brittany in a Mayan ceremony on December 18. Four days later, Sam and Brittany are surprised when they wake up and the world hasn't ended.
It's faculty Secret Santa time. Sue ends up with Millie Rose, Marley's mother. Sue can't think of what to get her. Sue overhears Marley and Millie talking about Marley's eating disorder and how much those sessions will cost. Marley sings "The First Noel" for her mother.
Sue tells Becky she's going to sell the ancient tree she cut down and use the money for a good cause.
Millie and Marley wake up on Christmas day and find gifts and cash from Sue including a re-gifted sweater from Benetton that Becky didn't want.
Puck tells Jake he's thinking about moving back home.
Beiste tells Sam and Brittany that their wedding isn't actually legally binding. The kids feel empty since the world didn't end. She lies and tells them a new calendar was found and the world has two more years.
On Christmas day it seems like Burt and Blaine are getting along swimmingly. Blaine says he's thinking about applying to NYADA.
Millie thanks Sue for what she did for them. Millie says she can't accept the money and tries to give it back. Sue gives it right back to her. Millie asks her to come with her. The Glee club is waiting in the auditorium and sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
