There were quite some issues that Braunschlag's pilot had, but "Das Wirtschaftwunder", which means "The Economic Wonder", rectifies a surprising lot of them. The second of eight episodes to come pursues a more humorous yet weird tone and highly profits from that.
First of all, Manuel Rubey. I've hardly ever seen an actor playing such ridiculous scenes as serious as he does and, guess what, the scenes get a lot better because of that. His initiating relationship seems a bit dull at the moment, but I'm hopeful that David Schalko will stage entertaining situations through it in the future. A part that bugged me about the pilot and came to quite a U-turn in "Das Wirtschaftswunder" was Maria Hofstätter's performance. The popular Austrian actress wasn't good at all as her only job was to portray a frustrated middle-aged woman, but plays a major part in some of this episode's best moments. I'm certain that her "petting zoo" experience was an homage to Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece "Eyes Wide Shut" and I loved every second of this weird scene.
However, "Das Wirtschaftswunder" got really great once the acting-wise unexperienced David Miesmer as Babs' childhood schoolmate Kevin came on and outshone everybody else (though Sabrina Reiter and Christopher Schärf did a great job as well in the scene) in the by far funniest moment the series has had up to that moment. Hopefully we'll get to see more of that character in the succeeding episodes and hopefully they will be as succeeding in entertaining me as "Das Wirtschaftswunder" was.
