H.P. Lovecraft's Dunwich Horror and Other Stories: Novelty value only
Platypuschow23 October 2018
Going into this you have to be curious what to expect.

  • H.P Lovecraft
  • Japanese
  • Claymation

It's such a bizzare creature, 3 of H.P Lovecrafts tales compacted into a 45 minute animated effort and the survey says *Drumroll* it's pretty damn bad.

The whole thing has a real novelty value, who'd have thought this combination would ever see the light of day. Japanese Lovecraft in an animated state!

The animation style is very basic, claymation/models with minimal movement and the whole thing is incredibly ugly. I have no experience in this field but could legitimately have made this myself.

On the plus side it has a certain charm to it and the whole thing looks and sounds very disturbing which adds to the Lovecraft tone.

The actual content itself though is far from entertaining, it's lifeless, drab and honestly bored the life out of me. I'm a Lovecraft fan but I accepted long ago that decent adaptations were rarer than a logical Trump tweet! This is certainly not a decent adaptation.

The Good:

Successfully disturbing

The Bad:

Ugly beyond belief

Really poorly made on every level

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

It's a rarity that anyone can get Lovecraft adaptations right

You'd think the country most familiar with tentacle stuff would relate to Lovecraft
