- Martin Hill: Camera Man tells the story of an unlikely curator and hoarder of Hollywood cameras; cameras that shot some of the most historic, iconic films of all time. For over 40 years, Martin collected cast-off film equipment from the big studios. He trucked it eastward and stored it in a leaky, dilapidated, former bowling alley in a tiny town in nowhere North Carolina. Cameras, lenses, lights, sound and editorial equipment from major Hollywood movies like The Ten Commandments, Gone With the Wind, Rocky, Lawrence of Arabia, Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey and countless other Academy Award winning films are crammed into Martin's leaking, crumbling building. His prize possession is film pioneer Charlie Chaplin's 1917 Bell and Howell camera that framed some of Hollywood's earliest movies, including The Gold Rush and The Kid. There are no collections in the Smithsonian or any other museum that rivals Martin uncatalogued treasures. As Martin ages and his health takes a downward turn, can he be the sole guardian of this magnificent Hollywood collection? Director / Producer, Joanne Hock embarks on a ten-year journey with Martin, documenting and telling this story of passion and preservation, obsession and compulsion, expectation, sacrifice and disappointment.
