Love it!
mishnook25 June 2013
We discovered Studio C half-way through season 2. We wish we had discovered it a long time ago. Luckily we can find any missed episodes on their web page. It's so funny! We can watch and laugh together as a family (4 kids ages 7-19) because it doesn't contain anything inappropriate--no sexual innuendos, no profanity, nothing embarrassing to watch as a family. Also many of their sketches are familiar enough that we can understand the humor, yet there's a lot of creativity. All the actors are very talented, many can sing and dance and are attractive. Mostly they are all hip and funny. We all love it! We're hoping to catch a taping for season 3 if we're ever in Utah. AWESOME!

Saturday Night Live Minus Trash

Studio C is one of the most clever and funny shows available to the general public. If you like SNL you will love this show AND guess what? No filth. No sexual innuendo, dirty language, etc. Originally written for a college audience, Studio C still has enough to appeal to kids and grandpas and everyone in between. I can watch it with my four year old. Studio C features the band "Mates of States" at times. It also has ongoing sketches like "Dungeons and Dragons", 'Gary and Carl" and "Tweeting Rainbow". They have on- and off-set sketches to mix things up as well. The episodes air on Monday evenings and can be found on the Studio C YouTube channel as well as BYU-TV.

Top Notch Comedy for all Ages
torbekenhai24 November 2014
This is the only show I watch as it comes out instead of getting to it later with no commercials, which isn't to say that I don't go back and watch the individual skits over and over. This stuff is so funny, and you can find all of it on youtube if you need to catch up.

If you're like me and think that SNL only has one funny skit in twenty lately, then you'll love these guys. Just about every skit is comedic gold and all of it is clean and decent. You really can't go wrong here, and if you do check it out on youtube, I can guarantee that just about any skit you click on will be hilarious. When IO go looking to watch one again, I always find myself having trouble choosing the next one from the amazing selection of great skits on the right side. You really gotta check them out. We could all use a good laugh.

Worth Your While
scotlyn-1014518 May 2018
My family discovered Studio C when I was having a bad mental health day and a friend sent me a link to a sketch, and our love for it spiraled from there. In all honesty, not every sketch is laugh-out-loud funny, but there is humor in everything. I definitely recommend Studio C for the clean laughs and some of the more thought-provoking sketches. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you find a segment for you then it's worth your while.

My new favorite show
jonathanrspalding31 May 2018
The hard question for Christian, Catholic, Mormon faith based TV is how do you create a show that is funny yet clean.

The answer is twofold. One, don't be religious. Studio C is wholesome and clean but is not religously themed. It will incorporate religious references but not hit you over the head with the meaning.

Two, let it be funny. In order to be funny sometimes you have to be mean or snarky. You do not have to be crude, abusive, or vulgar.

I have yet to see any other religious network find this mix with a show that could even be considered in this show's league.

Beyond that the writing is generally very clever, the acting good, and the jokes funny. Like any sketch comedy show, some sketches are better than others. However, consistently most are funny and some are out and out hilarious. The anthologoy of worst insert profession here is absolutey great. However, it think the best sketch was Shakesperean Therapy - if you have not seen it check it out.

Best and Cleanest
connor-p-mcclory10 September 2014
Probably the one of the best out there, Studio C was created by College students FOR college students at BYU University in Utah. It ended up on air, and boy am I glad it did. With sketches like "Shoulder Angel," "Awkward Avoidance Viking," and "Juuust Jeerreeemyyyy~," and characters like Mr. Ekilstone, that Bisque guy, and Captain Literally, this show is perfect. Now you're probably saying to yourself "Where's the cursing and Sex gffhgdfgh!?!?!?ONE/ONE1/1/1/!?!?!?" Well, this was for LDS and Christian audiences. So, no cursing, no sex, completely clean! Good for me, as although FNL is freaking hilarious, this is just as, if not FUNNIER than FNL AND a heck of a lot cleaner.

One of the funniest sketch comedy shows
zsbiw2 October 2021
Studio C is one of the funniest sketch comedy shows I've seen. If you like MadTV, you'll probably like Studio C. Studio C is more for all ages, though. It's very funny, and clean.

I never liked Saturday Night Live (SNL), it isn't funny to me. The funniest sketch comedy shows I've seen are MadTV and Studio C.

Studio C seems well made, and really knows how to do comedy. 8 out of 10 stars from me.

Funny and Clean for all ages
stonemt31 August 2017
This show is funny and clean for all ages. Not every skit is a favorite but overall we love the show and look forward to each episode that comes out so we can watch it as a family. I used to watch SNL as a kid and in high school but have moved away from it because it gets too raunchy for me. This show takes a similar "skit" method but you won't cringe every once and a while like you might on SNL. This show stands alone because it is pretty funny and really clean.

This show is amazing for the whole family.
qwertyuasdfxcvbrhdd9 July 2017
This show is extremely funny and it is good for the whole family. It covers a diverse range of subjects and has explored a wide range of comedy types (parodies, characters, musical comedy, situational, etc). Each cast member is extremely funny and contributes their own type of humour as well as forming a cohesive ensemble. It can be seen on byutv or on youtube which is where I watch it. I look forward to seeing more of them and watching them grow in popularity.

Clean, but boring
DylanMcChillin30 September 2018
I appreciate them making a show that is clean especially since that is so rare these days. That being said, I just can't find the show funny. They try hard and the acting is decent but the jokes are extremely dry.

SNL for the whole family
chrisminutolo3 October 2019
Like SNL, this is a sketch show. Although, there's no swearing whatsoever. If your kid wants to watch sketch comedy, show him/her/other stuff like that. It's a simple and wholesome show with funny jokes that'll please your child's sense of humor.

One of the BEST (but not anymore.)
hendersierra-7389326 February 2021
This sketch comedy show created by Matthew Meese and Jared Shores is the longest running series on BYU TV. Sort of like SNL, this show has people perform comedy skits and it used to be hilarious. Unlike SNL however this show delivers family-friendly content, and somehow for 9 seasons the original cast & crew managed to come up with fresh ideas that were hilarious. However in 2019, most of the people who worked on it left the show, including the cast members. So seasons 10+ are the NEW cast and crew. I am not trying to be biased to the old cast, I swear I started season 10 with an open mind to these people, and while season 10 was okay, the show started to REALLY go downhill from there. The show is on it's 13th season, and as of right now, the content is TERRIBLE. Honestly the sketches just get dumber and DUMBER after each one. I'm not exaggerating here, people! Most of the sketches nowadays are either a dumb gag or catchphrase that is repeated over and over again OR a remake of a sketch that's already been made. And whenever it IS something different, its usually either just the cast screaming their heads off for 3 minutes with no actual joke. I'm not even kidding. A good example of this is probably Women Supporting Women, just look it up on the Studio C YouTube Channel (its probably the worst sketch yet.) Honestly I know that there is talent in this cast, but these stupid sketches are just putting that talent to waste. I don't really think Studio C even understands its demographic anymore either. Its becoming less family friendly and more kid friendly. So no one over the age of 4 will probably enjoy it. I don't know who the writers are, but they obviously fail to understand the basic structure of a joke. ALSO, they completely over do it with the special effects, and I mean REALLY. They completely overdo it to a point where it looks more like a broken sci-fi nickelodeon teenage sitcom catastrophe threw up onto a Descendants Movie spinoff.

Possibly the worst thing I've ever seen
avabehuninjunk8 March 2020
I can go on and on about this for hours, but studio C just isn't funny. I remember back when I went to the lds church there was a kid who constantly talked about the latest episode on byutv. Sometimes he'd even play it at church. I never once laughed. I was about 10- and I feel the fact that I didn't laugh just shows how bad it is. 10 year olds laugh at everything. But studio C is a failed attempt to make a Mormon version of SNL. Their jokes are so bad that I cringe every time I hear them, and its not even a diverse cast. It's the same 5 people in every single sketch, and the computer generated laughs just add to how unfunny this show is. I just can't see how other people like it. It is truly one of the worst shows I have ever seen. You'd have to have very little sense of humor to laugh at this.

This review is through Season 7
TKBlackburn5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Because BYU TV has made this available from day 1, commercial free, & FREE, there is no excuse to not at least try this show. In Season 1 it's clear that these freakishly talented kids weren't 100% sure what they had, because it needed testing.

And they created magic! Thankfully, others agreed & gave them money to really make something of it.

Season 2 finds its stride. They introduce "off-set" stuff in Season 3 I think (can't remember), which is grammatically confusing with the hyphen in the transitions, but the skits themselves are great.

I hate to be a killjoy to even bring this up, but if you have the interface to do so, use the fast forward button whenever there is a creepy "Jeremy" segment. It is not until around Season 6 that he finally develops some talent & is not an annoyance on screen. The cast seems to know this, but as they're all/mostly friends since childhood, no one ever had the heart to take Jeremy out of the picture. For him, it paid off with self esteem, slow skill development & eventual fitting in. What's really weird, is that he would probably LOVE this review. If you like awkward humor, you'll love him as much as they do.

Well, I did give it a 10 for the seasons in which he participates, so touché.

An experiment with "off-set" only skits in Season 8 changes the feeling, plus their need to add 3 more cast members, which is inevitable for a long-running show. It is not a failed experiment, but from what I've heard, they bring the audience back in Season 9, which I've also heard is **SPOILER** the last season for the original 10 cast members.

Not to worry. They are still going strong with other endeavors on YouTube & Angel Studios.

**SPOILER** The show is reported to have gone downhill with the original 10's departure, but I can't attest to that, & I'm only at the start of Season 8, so...

Good family comedy, lots of good fun
joeymckaywright23 April 2022
This is a real solid comedy show, and it's one that pretty much anyone can sit down and watch. Lots of funny sketches, the later seasons get a bit rough though. But still solid.

Original cast is EPIC! New cast doesn't click.
jcbburbank29 December 2022
I started watching this show at the beginning of 2013 after my cousins introduced it to my family. It is just AWESOME. I think that each original cast member is so talented as an actor. I think they all have awesome chemistry that brings each sketch to life.

I really, really admire their commitment to all-ages humor. The original cast always brings each sketch's concept to a really funny, fun, and very creative place. SOOOO CREATIVE!!

I think it's also really cool that a bunch of the original cast members are multitalented, taking multiple roles as actors, singers, dancers, writers, and sketch directors. It's so cool and fun knowing that a talented actor who knocks funny stuff out of the park also writes some of the sketches you love!

For example, in a personal interview, Mallory described herself as being more of a "behind-the-scenes" person. She said she loves writing sketches and editing. Every viewer knows that Mallory is a super talented and hilarious actress, so knowing about her skills offstage is really cool, too. Likewise, Matt is an incredible actor, and also created the show and directed some sketches.

All of the original cast members seem like very personable, smart, and cool people. This shows not just in their clever ideas and versatile acting (I think they all do a great job as elderly characters and very young characters), but in their steady commitment to family-friendly humor.

The ONLY reason I put this show at nine stars instead of ten is because of the quality of sketches that the new cast has put out. I think that the new actors seem good individually, and some are talented in singing and dancing like the old cast, too. After the past few years, after watching almost all of the new sketches, I don't think the new cast has a chemistry that draws in every age like the old cast did. I think their lack of chemistry can be frustrating and annoying to watch, ESPECIALLY because some of the ideas they have are really funny and creative!! I just think that they tend to take a funny concept, like two dancing inflatables at a car dealership going through problems, and stretch it for MINUTES longer than it is actually funny. It just kinda makes the sketches more SILLY than they are CLEVER, and overall a more childish show.

Tori has a very nice voice but she overacts in almost every role she is in, like she is living as an anime character. This becomes very clear in the Sailor Moon volleyball sketch, which is so, so cringy and unfunny and uncomfortable to watch cuz Tori just seems to be enjoying it way too much when it's not a funny representation of anime at all. Of course I understand that anime parodies are supposed to be overacted; I just mean that Tori carries this over-nervous energy with her in ALL of her roles. She mostly plays super awkward girls and, in the comment sections of these videos, Tori herself comments on how awkward she actually is in real life. Nothing wrong with being an awkward person, it just seems kinda attention-seeking how she is so confident in showcasing her awkwardness all the time.

Naomi, who I first saw in the "Love Your Lyfe" videos, is really annoying to watch, too. I'm sure she's a super sweet and cool person. It's just really hard to watch her. In the "Goodnight Moon" sketch with Jetta, I think she's funny. I like that sketch a lot!! But other sketches featuring her, like the "Gravy Genie" and "Anonymous Complaint" ones, are hard for me to take.

I think April is super cute but she is not a good actress in any of the sketches I've seen her in. She seems very awkward in every sketch.

I think the actors are all too awkward to click together. I don't think Jason fits in with them. I don't mean to say that because I have watched him for a longer time; I think he is an AMAZING actor and I think he should be back with the JK Studios crew where he can bounce off of them better.

Original Cast witty and fun through 9th season, 10 season forward shallow forced and painful
jonesfamily-610945 October 2020
The original Studio C cast of 10 carried the show from obscurity to fame. They branded a clean but very funny humor that filled a comedy void for families with children. Unfortunately with original cast's departure the humor left with them. The replacement cast with relatively few exceptions has been a complete disappointment. For now avoid the new episodes. I keep hoping for improvement but face disappointment with each painful re-visiting of the comedy troupe I loved before. Sadly the current waste of time is slowly eroding away the reputation of the once beloved show.

Everything but Season 8 is great!
scall-0124129 October 2017
Studio C was great up till Season 8. My wife and I are huge fans, but were very disappointed in the humor of Season 8. It was more gory, and there was joking of things that shouldn't be joked about, especially in family entertainment (death, knives, cheating, reincarnation). Some parts were just plain weird and creepy. There were just parts we wouldn't feel comfortable having kids watch. So, if you're considering watching Studio C, watch Season 7 and earlier. You'll be well entertained, and its great for family. They are awesome, just Season 8 is an off season.

This Show is Just the Worst
maryleishman5 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I think this show is so terribly unfunny. I feel like all they do is steal jokes and sketches from SNL and other comedy shows and make them clean. I appreciate the cleanliness and I think its awesome that its something that the whole family can watch, but its just so terribly unfunny that its ridiculously stupid. Unoriginal and unfunny. No wonder people think Mormons are the weirdest. 2 stars

It's clean, it's bland, and it's annoying
cgearheart25 May 2020
Studio C is a squeaky clean show that wants so desperately to be cool like the shows and movies it lampoons, but only succeeds in being a church roadshow full of corny jokes, bad acting, and a desperation to relate to popular culture and interests. It's as pathetic as it sounds.
