Warning: Spoilers
This was by a mile the best episode written in five years of this series. the Noir crime novel dialog circa 1940's was spot on. Pete's Bogart was actually (surprisingly) accurate. Funny, all I thought he could do was play little boys. Even up to a cheesy detective show where he plays a little boy wearing a firefighting suite. The actress who played Mrs. Carson bears a strong resemblance to Barbara Stanwick. The sets, costumes, fog, cars, music, all very authentic. The attention to detail was impressive. I more or less ignored the muscle car story line. I didn't find it very interesting, much like most of this season. The Noir story line is an oasis in a vast, lifeless desert which was season 4. Who's idea was it to split this year into two segments and space them apart by six months? I grew bored with Brother What-the-Monk early on and only paid attention when Data wasn't around. Just another feeble attempt to work a Star Trek regular into the script. The writers even had both he and Capt. Janeway in one ep. Then the series returns with another stupid and pointless story line. Count Veddy British...er no, French...no, German, Well, anyway he's immortal and not a vampire, see? did you get that? He's NOT a vampire even thought Pete likes vampires....ad nausea. Many blame the network for the cancellation of this show. One reviewer said they went back and watched the pilot to remember how good this show USED to be. I believe the writers and producers killed this show with poor dialog and boring story lines. RIP, WH13.
