- The Great Maratha is an Indian historical drama that follows the life of Mahadji Scindia (played by Shabaz Khan). The series aired on Doordarshan in early 1994. It was produced by Numero Uno productions and was directed by Sanjay Khan of Tipu Sultan fame. The series starts with events in Delhi in the year 1759 and the rule of Shah Alam II and leads up to the Third Battle of Panipat between the Maratha empire and the forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali on 14 January 1761. It then follows the life of Mahadji Scindia, who was gravely wounded in the battle, his recovery and the establishment of the Maratha empire in northern India. The series ends with the passing away of Mahadji Scindia. Several famous TV actors of the time have played major parts. Some of the better known of them are Tom Alter, Bob Christo, Benjamin Gilani, Maya Alagh, Irrfan Khan, Farida Jalal and Mukesh Khanna. The series aired between February and December 1994 and consisted of 47 episodes of around 40 minutes each.
- The third battle of Panipat has gone down in the minds of people of India as the synonym for defeat. This battle of Panipat Was fought in 1761 between the invading forces of the fierce Afgan King Ahmad Shah Abdali and the Maratha armies which were invited by the Mughal Emperor of Delhi to safeguard the frontiers of India against the invading hordes. Director Sanjay Khan, a master craftsman, depicts this fierce battle, the resulting intrigues and treachery, and the adventures of those times in all its glory making it a high voltage drama and a grand audiovisual treat. The principal character of the serial is Mahadji Scindia, the Great Maratha warrior, who, after the defeat of the Marathas at Panipat, rose from the ashes like a Phoenix and reconstructed the military might of the Marathas on one hand and restored the moral authority of the Moghuls, on other. Mahadji Scindia's romance with the beautiful Indian Princess Jumna bloomed into a matrimonial alliance and she proved to be a source of strength and inspiration to him till she breathed her lost in his arms. The Queen of Indore, Ahilya Bai Holkar, reputed by her beauty and charm, was attracted by Mahadji Scindia. She advised him for his noble effort to unite the Northern princes to strengthen the Central power in Delhi. A sublime relationship existed between the two. He single-handedly thwarted the British attempt to enslave India for more than a decade, only to be sabotaged by the betraying elements among his own countrymen. Jealous of his ever rising power and influence, he was poisoned by the Marathas themselves in a treacherous manner at Pune(False depiction).
