- During her seven years as the presiding judge on the courtroom series Divorce Court, Judge Mablean Ephriam was famously known for her tough love, her witty comebacks, and her trademark phrase, "Look deep before you leap." She has had an incredible journey that began in Mississippi and includes working as a Prison Correctional Officer, helping curb domestic violence, and touring the world sharing her wisdom and life's lessons.
Post-Divorce Court, Mablean has shared her experience and knowledge as a public speaker at womens conferences, churches, community and civic organizations, colleges and schools. She is the co-owner of Jubilane Guest House, a bed & breakfast in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her book, Judge Mableans Life Lessons: Tools for Weekly Living, was published in 2009.
As a result of her recognition on Divorce Court, Mablean has had the opportunity to portray herself in a number of TV shows and films, including Hollywood Squares (2001), Cedric the Entertainer Presents (2002), Passions (2003), One on One (2003), The Bernie Mac Show (2005), the film adaptation of the play Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005), Celebrity Fit Club (2005), Madeas Family Reunion (2006), 1 vs. 100 (2007), Baisden After Dark (2008), Madea Goes to Jail (2009).
Though it appears she generally prefers to keep her private life private, Mablean has stated that she experienced domestic violence at some point in her marriage and that she had an amicable divorce. She is the mother of four and the grandmother of ten.
