Weak episode, but I haven't lost my hope in the series yet

"Der Neue Bürgermeister", meaning "The New Mayor" in English, is but a slight improvement from the series' last episode and still doesn't manage to regain the weird, funny, and believable touch of the first couple of episodes.

As the title suggests, this slightly-shorter-than-usual episode deals with Gerri relaying his tenure on to Banyardi, who seems most awkward and inapt for his new role. There are some difficulties arising with that, but they hardly ever result in good scenes - the few remarkable moments are mostly unexpected jokes or directorial ideas not too relevant to the plot. I'm most unsure about how "Braunschlag"'s final two episodes are about to play out considering that quiet has come at least to some extent in "Der Neue Bürgermeister" and I can't think of a big finale that writer-director David Schalko has up his sleeve. Currently, relationships play an appreciable amount in the story and in that field, the series hasn't ever been amusing or entertaining. In addition, it's really hard to make a good ending for a series just with relationship story arcs.

"Der Neue Bürgermeister" isn't in any way as idiotic or boring as its preceding episode, "Bauxi", but isn't what I'd call quality entertainment either. Poor jokes and clichés are frequent and good conceptions such as Reinhard and the police searching for a dog in the woods being evocative of war films or the hospital conversation at the very beginning are, as I mentioned before, disappointingly seldom. However, I haven't lost my hope for a decent denouement yet and I'm excited to see how David Schalko terminates his project.
