Miss Bunting, one of the first employees Selfridge hired, is caught stealing and is dismissed on the spot. A new head of fashion, Irene Ravillious, is hired away from Liberty's. Her vision is that women could someday purchase ready-made clothes much as men do. Agnes locks her father out of the flat but he doesn't go away quietly. Harry takes his wife and eldest daughter to a ballet performance by Anna Pavlova. She also visits the store and rest of his family gets an opportunity to meet her as well. The visit however turns into a near disaster. Harry has been ignoring Ellen Love and doesn't even open the notes she continually sends him. She however has convinced herself that Harry will marry her and decides to drop into the store to welcome Pavlova forcing Harry to take drastic action. Similarly, Agnes' father shows up, quite drunk, and causes a scene. Finally, Rose is supposed to be there to have tea with the famed ballerina but is out with her artist friend Roddy.
