Most of the members of the crew from Baja California are part of "The Titanic generation" as they are renowned for starting their movie careers on the James Cameron epic Titanic (1997) that was filmed on Rosarito, Baja California.
A detailed timeline of the two lead character's music and cinema careers, as a team and in solitary, was created by Francisco Payó González and Beto Gómez in order to incorporate and melt the "real legend" of Los Jilgueros de Rosarito whitin the decades that the movie's story take place.
Among the bands and singers listed by the creators of the movie as an influence and reference to Los Jilgueros de Rosarito's music, films and legacy are Los Terricolas, Sandro de America, Los Pasteles Verdes, Rigo Tovar, Los Bukis and Los Pecos.
Beto Gómez and Francisco Payó González had this project in development since 2006.
The movie pays tribute to the popular Mexican cinema of the 70's and 80's, an era in which actor Rafael Inclán, who plays an important character in "Volando Bajo", was one of the biggest stars. Inclán remains today as one of México and Latin America most beloved actors to different generations.
