Monkey Cake
warehousereviews16 May 2022
Rick the pizza guy is the best part of this movie, bloody funny. The rest of the cast were good but he was the standout.

Just a good casual movie with a lot of laughs that doesn't take itself to seriously.

Highly recommend.

Dark Comedy
stevendbeard11 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Suicide for Beginners, starring Wil Daniels-13 Days, Mile Marker Seven; Sara Tomko-Resident Alien_tv, Once Upon a Time_tv; Nate Panning-Well Wishes, Piranha 3 DD; Julia Lehman-Narcos:Mexico_tv, The Burning Dead and Sid Haig-The Devil's Rejects, Diamonds Are Forever.

This is a dark comedy about suicide and murder. Wil plays a man contemplating taking his own life because of his girlfriend, Sara. You see, she cheated on him. Wil starts fantasizing about different ways to do himself in but then he decides to kidnap Sara and bring her to his basement garage as an audience. He ties her up, of course, so that he has a captive audience but then Nate-the pizza guy-shows up and things get more complicated. Nate leaves but makes the mistake of telling his girlfriend Julia about Wil and she wants to bake Wil a cake. Nate and Julia end up getting tied up and seated in the garage, too. Sid in his final movie appearance-he died in 2019-plays Sara's landlord that comes looking for Sara and.... well, the garage starts getting fuller. Things get bloodier when nosy neighbors enter the picture and Corey Feldman has a short but funny cameo as one of them.

It's not rated-NR-but it contains bloody violence and language and has a running time of 1 hour & 34 minutes.

I enjoyed it and would buy it on DVD.

"I'm going to name an ulcer after each and every one of you."
classicsoncall13 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How is it Wil Daniels doesn't have top billing for this flick? He dominates the story and is in just about every scene. Maybe it's a rhetorical question, no need to get back to me.

This film is funny in parts dealing with a gruesome subject. A character committing suicide has been done a number of times before; 1971's "Harold and Maude" wasn't so over the top, and more recently, "A Man Called Otto" turned into a life affirming story. This one is just absurd for the sake of being absurd. It explores the many ways a guy, Garrett (Daniels), can find a way to knock off a bunch of neighborhood folks before his ex-girlfriend Mia (Sara Tomko), pizza guy Rick (Nate Panning), and his girlfriend Abigail/Poodle (Julia Lehman) can get the best of him. In a weird consequence of timing, Sid Haig makes an appearance a few years after his death in what only seems appropriate for a movie like this. Corey Feldman is on hand too in a much too short a role, he should have been a principal.

Not much else to say about the picture. Know what to expect going into this, it's bloody and violent, but the dialog is often hilarious, especially in the case of pizza guy Rick. There's no way he should have made it through the story given everything Garrett did to him, he had to have an amazing constitution.

Way Better Than Expected
WeskersWaifu28 November 2022
"I didn't know IKEA made people" if that one line doesn't get your attention, nothing will. I didn't have high hopes for this movie, I read the synopsis and thought I'd give it a go and I was so glad I did. This movie isn't a horror by any means but it is a comedy and a really good comedy at that.

Our main character who has all the characteristics of a clichéd nerd, has an unrequited love for his friend. But one incident pushes him over the edge to lead him to want to end her life, this satire of him trying to write the perfect note leads him to situations unexpected but never the less humorous.

The last half hour of this movie is gold, honestly. It's so ridiculous but it's funny, and it's hard not to love the pizza guy. You need to watch this movie if you like satire and goofy comedies.

at moments...
ops-525356 May 2022
A hilarious attempt of a film production making suicide on itself, but on the other side a rather messy, gory, production of a desperate suicidist that wants revenge on his former girlfriend via ''methods all sorts'', and especially in the intro of the story had some really good fast shifting and tic tac toe shoots on the methodology of the suicidal science, also used as a murderweapon in a worse case scenario...

a small cast movie, with eyes wide shoot gawping bulldogs gagging out their dialouges into a pretty laughable serindipitous story , at moments very good, in others really bad. There aint no lack of fantasy from the directors nor producers and the plot floats fine, it just lack that little spark called slapstick and other precarious happenings in the life of a young unhappy man, some wild kicks comming out of the blue is merely to be found ( unless some background distracting moments of high value) but if you like verbal comedy with some black loonitec comedy then go for it.

Its not a cookbook for anarchists story for future suicidalists, thinks the grumpy old man, but ill piv ot more to a 6 than a fiver, and wont indiscriminate the show at all cause its viewable by all means, not suitable for the young ones, even though there are some kid baits that may lure some yonksters into the beatless philosophy of suicide.

Painful to Sit Through
ethanmhill-021741 July 2022
I'm sorry, but I REALLY tried my best to sit through this film. However, at the 40 minute mark I just couldn't stomach any more. Each of the actors were fine and the cinematography was decent, but the story is so cringe worthy. The writing was genuinely painful to sit through, which I don't believe was intentional. There is a fine line between a movie being so bad it's good, but this movie does not walk that line.

Hilariously quirky low-budget film
spidermanluvr19 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot follows Garret, a young man who has taken his love interest hostage after he accidentally killed someone. You can immediately tell that this wasn't filmed with a big box office budget but the writers make up for that with some not-so-subtle humor. The jokes, at times, get silly to the point where you might lose faith in the writing but they seemed to pull me back in after every one.

Warning: Spoilers
Very stupid. What a waste of time. Not funny at all. The girl in the basement gets free...her hands are untied...but she doesn't take the gag off of her mouth ? Just an idiotic attempt at nothing. I give it a 1. And the stupid soundtrack ? What was that ?

Fun Times
simbernie-1543424 May 2022
This movie is a lot of fun if you're looking for a dark comedy with some wild twists. It's full of great dialogue, and Nate Panning as the Pizza Guy is downright hilarious. Plus, Sig Haig (always great) in one of his last roles. Definitely worth giving an eyeball.

Bad acting.
missmartimar20 May 2022
Bad acting. Some scenes are so stupid it is actually frustrating. Good name & Plot tho. I feel like it had potential tho. If you like B movies than give it a try. Least it was free.

People getting bent out of shape
paulONeil6810 December 2022
This is a dark comedy, nothing more and nothing less.

Title maybe out there but at the end of the day the world has forgot how to laugh.

This is fun and wierd and some of the other characters are just as fun. I cannot see half of the complaints are about. It is worth the watch and even though it can be lacking in substance in places it kinds reminds me of a 80s classic comedy. The whole set up is morally wrong but then so is life at times.

The fact the movie demonstrates that you can get information from anywhere these days is very factual. Watch the movie u may even find yourself laughing.

Fun
windsorenquirer8 May 2022
It was a hilarious and pretty good black comedy. Probably not for everyone though. But I enjoyed it a lot, compared to all those "comedy"-dramas they make these days this movie was like back in the day when a comedy was a comedy with lots of laughs. That's why it got 10 stars from me.

Impossible Fun
Siebert_Tenseven22 May 2022
A comedy with absolutely no reason or point to make. It's good to see slapstick is still alive and well, embodied by these mostly unknown actors trying their very best, which that makes it that much funnier. It reminded me of the very stupid comedies of 15 years ago, like Big Nothing or Weirdsville. Silly humorous impossibilities to pass the time and get a few yuck yucks.

Quirky, crazy fun!
jlmdesigns30 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is quirky and hilarious! Production quality for an indie is top-notch, with some notable performances (especially Nate Panning as Rick). Plus, gotta love a cameo from Corey Feldman!

I understand that the film might not be for everyone, but the trailer matches the film... Spot on, enjoyable, craziness. Have watched twice and it's on my list for a third viewing.

Fun, offbeat Indy!
ewfickle-2776731 May 2022
Would definitely watch again! Great writing and a fun performance made this a treat, which I I don't always expect with Indy film. Moves along well and had plenty going for it for me to give it a 10/10. If you appreciate irreverent fun with a dose of weird you're going to enjoy it!

Really Dark Fun Funny Comedy
isantistao8 August 2023
This is a great late night comedy. It's really dark, perhaps not the darkest of comedies, but I'd say darker than most (and I watch a lot of them). It's really funny, I did laugh out loud many times. And it's just all around a lot of fun and a great pick me up when I was feeling depressed. It is a budget film but aside from not having huge production value there's nothing bad about it. It's really well done for a b movie. And for a b movie, I'd give it a 10 or near 10. It certainly doesn't deserve as low of a rating as it gets, as it shouldn't be considered a must for a movie to have a huge budget and be overproduced for it to be considered good. This movie is well written and acted and is very entertaining. I had a great time watching it and am really glad I found it because there aren't a lot of dark comedies being made anymore these days with everyone being so oversensitive. This movie is freaking good!

Can We Come In and Meet the Monkey?
TheJonesBones5 January 2024
No! God, No! He's angry!

I don't believe I ever saw a monkey in this movie - except the monkey on the cake - but it has just about everything else. So, what's this film got that YOU need?

Uh, well, first... it's got tons of fantasy murder scenarios... you know what kind of people I mean. Nosy neighbors. Chatty pizza guys. Sweaty girlfriends. Mean chicks. Sweaty, mean girlfriend-chicks. Also included, various other violent ideations that will provide more than one shameful little thrill. To you. Not your victims. Alleged.

Seriously, this is a well written, solidly shot and enacted film. I am certain we will see much more of all the key players. I liked them better than monkeys. Lots. Because I like you, too, I encourage you to watch so you can figure out how NOT to commit Suicide for Beginners!
