- DCI Gill Murray: How long have you had a drink problem, Helen?
- Helen Bartlett: It's not a problem. I like being pissed.
- Helen Bartlett: [opens another can of beer] Do you want a swig?
- DCI Gill Murray: No. Thank you.
- Helen Bartlett: I've got loads.
- DCI Gill Murray: It makes me fart, lager.
- Helen Bartlett: [giggling] Oh, we wouldn't want that!
- DC Rachel Bailey: I mean who'd of...? Yeah, you're right. Stupid question.
- DC Janet Scott: Who'd abduct her? You know as much as me.
- DC Rachel Bailey: Well, who wouldn't abduct her? Number of evil gits she's banged up.
- DC Janet Scott: It's a funny thing, but people don't. They've generally enough demons of their own to bother with.
- DC Rachel Bailey: Right, someone... Someone she interviewed when she was younger, someone from years ago? Someone she helped get sent down whenever and they've just got out, and they've held a grudge against her all this time.
- DC Janet Scott: They're not criminal masterminds, these people. Surely to God you know that by now.
- [first lines]
- Sgt. Rob Waddington: Have you been invited to this do tonight?
- DC Janet Scott: What do?
- [pauses]
- DC Janet Scott: Oh, Sammy's engagement do? Yeah, yeah. Why?
- Sgt. Rob Waddington: Just trying to fathom why she's invited some people but not others.
- DC Janet Scott: Oh, well, um, I'm Sammy's godmother, and Mitch was at Bruche with Gill three, four hundred years ago. And Dave, in fact, so... Uh, Gill's husband. Ex-husband.
- Sgt. Rob Waddington: Ah.
- DC Janet Scott: So we're all family friends.
- Sgt. Rob Waddington: Okay.
- DC Janet Scott: I say godmother. I use the term loosely, having not stepped inside a church since... blimey. Although I did once buy him an Advent calendar.
- DCI Gill Murray: I see a lot.
- [swallows]
- DCI Gill Murray: I see fourteen-year-olds dump old-age pensioners in the canal after they've suffocated them. I see pathetic men leave eight-year-old boys in wheelie bins after they've raped them. I...
- [shakes her head]
- DCI Gill Murray: It's not my decision. Things have to go to a jury. For your sake. So everyone will know you weren't guilty. So there'll be no shadow of doubt in anyone's mind, because the chances are you're going to get off. You must know that.
- Helen Bartlett: [wearily] Bollocks.
- DCI Gill Murray: No!
- Helen Bartlett: We've been through this. You're missing the point. You're pissing in the wind! The damage has been done, so this is what's happening. We're gonna drive off Flamborough Head and into the sea. D'you remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Well, it won't be like that 'cause they could fly.
- DCI Gill Murray: I'm not driving off Flamborough Head!
- Helen Bartlett: You bloody are.
