Perfection.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a masterpiece of a show. What. A. Ride. Never before has a show elicited in me the reactions this has. I have cheered, I have cried, and I have laughed all throughout this amazing journey. Thank you, Steven DeKnight and co.

When I first started the show, I was apprehensive. I liked the pilot enough, but I didn't imagine it would become one of my most loved shows of all time. It has created breathtaking visuals, amazing choreography, and fantastic characters (shout-out to Batiatus, who was one of those people you love to hate, yet you root for).

As we came into the third season, I was excited to see the show's take on historical figures like Crassus and Caesar. I was not disappointed. Both actors did a fantastic job, and while the Roman side of things weren't as compelling as before, they served as a nice final group of antagonists to Spartacus.

One thing I did not like was Tiberius. I felt nothing for him, not even hate, and he came across as more boring than anything else. His death was inconsequential and quiet, which was nice, although after killing Crixus, I wanted his face to be sliced off or something. Speaking of, Manu Bennett was so fantastic this season. I absolutely loved him, and his death scene was one of the most heartbreaking, yet beautiful things I've seen on television. Although I didn't much like this new Naevia, I still felt for her (and man, that last shot of "Separate Paths" was beautiful).

And of course, Liam McIntyre. Kudos to him for keeping Whitfield's legacy living through this character. He once again did fantastic work, none more so than in the finale.

What a finale that was. Seriously. I give it an 11/10. It was beyond a masterpiece. Once again, the battle scenes were cinema-quality, and I was cheering and holding my breath the whole time. Everything about it was beautiful. Merrells did fantastic work as Crassus, and McIntyre did fantastic work as Spartacus. The last few minutes hit me hard, and the last shot of the series was beautiful. Spartacus dies under a red serpent. One of my favorite things about the finale is that DeKnight created this sense of hope; you just hoped history would be changed. Yet, they stuck to the story, and I thought it was the right choice. They told the story of Spartacus, and they did it perfectly.

Other thoughts:

-Loved Gannicus as well. Hated what happened to him, though -Loved Ashur throughout the series. He was the perfect sneaky weasel -Loved the pit trap in the finale, as well as F--- YOUR MOTHERS!! -The credits of the finale was a perfect tribute to all the characters. It was so fantastic to see Varro, Batiatus, Lucretia, etc. again. And of course, Andy Whitfield closing it out. That brought tears to my eyes.

I. AM. SPARTACUS.

A Four Year Victory.
sirpy2014 April 2013
Having started off loosely, with several loose threads at the beginning of the season; the finale is a multi-sided mirror to the sheer brilliance that is Spartacus.

This is one episode that summarizes several finales rolled into one. Having completed a few series such as House MD, Lost and 24 among others had the feeling most of them are forced after the shows have been milked dry. But not this one.

This one traverses history as is; with a few minor alterations armed with cinematic/TV-show-astic license. But the sheer nonchalance of bringing together everything, including the red serpent, that bodes the first victory of Spartacus is but, a gentle nod to the journey we have had for the last four years.

Liam McIntyre, take a bow; stepping into Andy's shoes was no joke. But let us not mar his acting and emoting with any form of comparison. The creator along with the other actors and crew, have stepped it up for future shows.

A great and a fitting finale. And do catch the credits; the music and the final scene is a shot to the arm.

I am still reeling from it.

Wow...What An Amazing Ride!

Awesome finale, maybe the best I have ever personally seen from any TV show! The fight between Spartacus and Crassus was amazing. The look of pure hate that Spartacus gives Crassus, I could've swore I seen Andy Whitfield in his eyes! Very fitting tribute to Andy by the way at the end of the credits.

In summary, Liam McIntyre impressed the hell out of me this season. He had a very difficult task in taking over for Andy and pulled it off remarkably! Loved this show, will remain my favorite for some time to come. Gonna really miss it.

Hope STARZ goes with the Ceasar spin-off idea and keeps the original Crassus and Ceasar actors for that show.

Warning: Spoilers
I Am here to honor and pay my respects to the Legend Spartacus, and to the show that brought his Spirit back from the dead and into the hearts of every man and woman who had the privilege of laying eyes upon this show! A Fitting end for one of the Greatest shows in history!, and a Great way to honor the name Spartacus. The Gladiator who became legend, the legend of a man seeking justice and freedom for all. A notion held to heart by people around the world to this very Day.

Agron spoke the truth, Rome did indeed crumble and fall beneath the sands of time, yet, its been over 2000 years, and the name Spartacus is still fresh upon tongue!, he lives on in our hearts and is an inspiration to all who believe in freedom and equality.

Their Deaths "Spoiler" "The Show did follow history in the more important parts, yet held room for speculation and hope in the sense that few of Spartacus followers lived on and made it to safety, but not before expressing their gratitude for all that Spartacus had done for them, and saying their goodbyes to their savior. I Am glad that Agron made it out alive with his lover by his side, yet it greatly saddens the heart to see all those we loved die such cruel, Gannicus among them! - and Saxa's last words almost brought tears to my eyes, "I Again find myself, in your arms" she said, and Navia dying by the hands of Caesar was quite a sight, If Crixus were to see it, he would've crack open the heavens and Dangle cock upon the Roman hordes. Lugo died bravely, and castus last words were quite touching, wishing to Agron "If but for a Day i'd been you" expressing his profound love and admiration for Naseer.

last but not least was Gannicus Smile as he was nailed to the cross, it was both Glorious and extremely heartbreaking. A truly wonderful performance by Dustin Clare. I could see in his smile all the pain and glory rushing back to him in that one instant, but as he was a Champion in life, so was he in Death. For he embraced it with open arms and smiled in the face of crucifixion, a smile that even Death should fear!!.

Beware Death!, for Gannicus the true champion, and God of the arena is about to embrace you!! lol To Sum up the episode, it was the end of a story, and the beginning of a Legend, a story forever told, and a legend never tarnished! it was a Finale for the Ages!!! my name is Aram, and i pay respects to you Spartacus!, and the show that brought this legend to life.

God Bless the People Who Made this Series
rohittripathi73715 April 2013
I have Been Following this series since the Day of its Series Premiere. In fact, I Have Watched almost all the Popular, Top Rated, Award Winning TV series. But, Spartacus is the Best Among All of them. There are many reasons for it. First Spartacus involves you emotionally. Second, it has simple the best action sequences ever.

Third, the absolutely amazing Storyline which is actually based on true events. Although, this series finale made me a little sad, that the whole series came to an end. But, I am terribly happy that I was lucky enough to witness it.

This Last Episode is Beyond any Ratings.

I Am Spartacus.....

Warning: Spoilers
I just watched this whole series thru again. And really Seasons 2 and 3 I had only watched thru once while I'd watched season 1 and Gods of The Arena thru like 10 times each.

I didn't really care for Liam McIntyre in the role of Spartacus at first. I really enjoyed Andy Whitfields performance in Season 1 and it took some getting used to seeing Liam as that character, but I think in Season 3 he really seemed to grow into the role, and that really cannot be evidenced moreso by than in this final episode of really what turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever watched.

I also didn't really care for the actress that they got replace Naeyvia. She was disappointing to me.

But that all aside, what a fantastic final episode to what was really a fantastic show.

There are not many TV shows that make me feel sadness. But it is with great sadness that AGAIN, I HAVE To let this one go. Such powerful beloved characters, in Spartacus, and Crixus. And especially in who was my favorite character, Gannicus.

Fans of the Kirk Douglas classic, we knew how it had to end. We knew that the sniveling traitorous villain Ceasar he had to live. As we assumed that Crassus would be the 'victor' in this version as he was in the 60's classic.

But still, thanks to the writers , producers and crew for getting us there. And the telling, was freaking amazing. I can't even write this without tearing up a bit. It's amazing.

Again Steven DeKnight, thank you.

John Hannah and Lucy Lawless, thank you.

Doctore, Barca, Varro, thank you.

Agron, Sura, Melitta, thank you.

Liam McIntyre, thank you.

And most of all, Andy Whitfield, thank you.

What an ending...

Warning: Spoilers
There's so much to say about the finale and yet so hard to choose the right words. Phenomenal, breathtaking, heartbreaking, brilliant, etc; the list goes on. I sat in great anticipation of how the show would portray this historical, already knowing the ultimate outcome. I already that the Rebel army would be defeated by Crassus, knew that most (if not all) of the slaves would be killed and that Spartacus would be mortally wounded in battle but his body would not be claimed by the Romans. The final battle sequence was beautiful. I think that they focused on the correct points of the battle, showing each death of characters that the audience had come to love. My only reserve, was Gannicus' death. Or rather, it would have been had he not hallucinated being in the arena for the last time. As a Gladiator to the heart, Im sure he would rather died with sword in hand, rather than be crucified but his vision of Oenomaeus and his final "return" to the arena made it fitting. Liam's performance for his final stand against Crassus was MAGICAL!! His acting was so superb. The setup for this fight, goes back to his speech to the rebels who would not be joining the battle and they all thanked him for "saving them." When looking at Spartacus on this show, one sees a great man who lost something dear to him and began giving to others what he could not secure for himself and his wife. And these people knew it and were grateful for it. So watching that same man who impacted the lives of so many, fight tooth and nail against Crassus' men completely drew me in. I was on the edge of my seat as he fought Crassus himself. (When Crassus disarmed him by grabbing the gladius with his bare hands, i thought Sparty was a goner. but it was not so.) It was hard to tell what would stop this unmovable force called Spartacus- I knew at some point, he would have to stop fighting. But would Crassus stab him? would he be shot by arrows from behind? What? then he gets impaled by spears... and i seriously teared up. such an intense moment and the very fitting verbal exchange between Crassus and Spartacus..."Would that you had been a Roman and stood beside me." "I bless the fates that it was not so." History tells that while it is widely accepted that Spartacus died in battle, there is no official death record for him. His body was never discovered. So it was appropriate to have him taken from the battlefield by Agron and Nasir to die far from Roman eyes. I like that our hero reiterates that his name is not Spartacus without actually sharing what it truly is. (Some things are better off as mysteries) And having Agron say the final farewell was perfect. Job well done to the entire cast and crew, they have seriously made the best television show in history.

An inspiration, tears of joy and sadness in my eyes
KopCity24 October 2019
I'm having a crack at writing my first review (absent thought lol). Writing reviews are not my cup of tea but here I am writing about the legendary Spartacus. I have watched the very best of shows like Breaking Bad , Game of Thrones , Rome etc, thinking nothing will better them.. I was proved WRONG.. From the first episode to the very last my eyes did not twitch. I hold no shame in admitting I cried at the end and on a handful of episode when they ended I shouted GET INNNNNN... not because I was happy to see it end but Happy to witness this in my life time.. perfection.. My favourite movies or boxsets have the highest rating of 9/10 because i didn't believe in perfection upon watching Spartacus... Now it is my favourite out of all others hence I gave it 10/10!!!!! Truly Amazing... Cannot be missed!!

Season 3 Review
IPyaarCinema2 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Review By Kamal K

War of the Damned is a satisfying conclusion to that story and delivers everything you loved about the series with a few new twists.

One of the more daunting tasks of War of the Damned must have been molding antagonists who would be as memorable as Batiatus, Ashur and Lucretia from previous seasons. On paper, it's obvious that Marcus Crassus would have to become a major player in events but it's how the character is skillfully portrayed in the season's opening episode, "Enemies of Rome", that makes him an instant favorite. While his treatment of slaves shouldn't be called fair, it's obvious that he has a certain respect for them that we haven't seen too often. Crassus' determination to train in the style of gladiator combat is very telling of the type of man he is as he cunningly positions himself to spearhead a campaign against Spartacus. His admiration and respect for the Thracian turned slave is also a refreshing change. The seeds are planted in "Enemies of Rome" for what would be a very exciting mental chess game between Spartacus and Crassus throughout the season and every moment was an absolute treat to watch.

Julius Caesar is an anomaly. He was alive at the time of the slave uprising but I haven't been able to find even the slight mention of his involvement in the campaign against Spartacus. Nevertheless, Caesar is a known historical figure and the opportunity to weave him into the narrative must have been too great a temptation, one that I'm glad they gave into. Caesar, an expert swordsman, never afraid to throw himself into the thick of the action, can be simultaneously ferocious and cocky; a rare treat. His demeanor and style are reminiscent of Gannicus, which makes any encounter between the two immensely exciting to watch. His self-assured and laid back nature played off of Tiberius' impatient arrogance extremely well, creating a rivalry that was a lot of fun to watch the entire season.

Then there is Tiberius. Early on I was admittedly quick to dismiss Tiberius as little more than a nuisance who would most likely attempt to play spoiler for Caesar's larger ambitions. While he was at odds with Caesar on many an occasion he gradually transformed from a nuisance into what I would call the only true villain of the season. Caesar and Crassus may be considered antagonists, but their reasoning, to an extent, is noble. Their allegiance is to Rome and they will defend the people of Rome even if it means their death. Tiberius shares that same sentiment but throughout the season it's fascinating to watch as he becomes more and more twisted by both heartbreak and an unparalleled thirst for power. By the last couple of episodes there is no denying that he's a hardened villain with little chance for remorse. It's a fascinating character evolution to watch throughout the season and I'd even say I'm glad that he's sort of easy to dismiss at the start, as it makes his transformation all the more shocking.

Going into War of the Damned, Spartacus had found his vengeance. The man who was behind his capture and the capture of his wife is now dead. But Spartacus faces a greater task and now commands an army of thousands; some bloodthirsty and wanting revenge while others simply wanting freedom and escape from Rome. This creates an interesting new dynamic that Spartacus is forced to deal with early on and it plays into much of what transpires during the first part of the season. For a while it's a refreshing change of pace and leads to the pivotal capture of Sinuessa, which is arguably the beginning of the end for the rebellion.

The port city of Sinuessa quickly develops into a powder keg of emotion and danger for the rebel army. There are some interesting and unsettling new developments that occur which shed a different, darker, light on some of the men and women under Spartacus' command. The absolute blood thirst and brutality displayed by some of the rebels effectively changes the entire dynamic of the show for a time. It's hard to watch some of these rebels, who were once depicted as heroes, brutally beating and raping Roman citizens. When Caesar is thrown into the mix as a spy, there is a point that it's hard not to want him to succeed in at least freeing the captured Romans.

The diverging ideologies between the rebels manifest themselves in both Spartacus and Crixus. For the first time in a long while we get to see these two characters at complete odds with one another to the point of threatening their entire cause. Having their relationship shaken to such an extent arguably acts as the inevitable start of their downfall as they find themselves ill prepared for the raid by Crassus' army.

If there is one complaint about the events that transpire within Sinuessa it's that the story feels like it's spinning its wheels after a short time. While we're waiting for Crassus to make his move, Spartacus is bogged down with resource managing and ensuring there is enough food to go around. It's a small annoyance and it ultimately leads to greater, pivotal, developments.

Once Spartacus and the rebels are driven from Sinuessa the season hits a phenomenal stride right until the bitter end. Forced from their temporary home, and desperate, the rebels must be resourceful whilst also keeping one eye on the methodical advancement of Crassus' men behind them. Having Spartacus and his army with their backs, at one point literally, up against the wall makes every moment that much more dangerous and exciting. Especially when we all know that this is the end game for these characters and any one of them could meet their death at any moment. The suspense ramps up and the emotional impact of every scene start to hit a lot harder.

"Victory" is a great conclusion to an exceptional journey that was filled with far more highs than lows throughout the series. It offers a phenomenal final stand between Spartacus' forces and the strength of the Roman army. Much like the rest of the series, it's an absolute joy to watch and will leave you an emotional wreck.

Spartacus: War of the Damned is an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the series. The short seasons and series in general make it the perfect size for a re-watch every few years and it will definitely be one of my go to recommendations for quite sometime.

The Best

Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps one of the greatest stories ever told, and this series does it justice, especially the final episode! It was so good it made me write my first review... it has everything you would ask for in a perfect single TV episode, thrills and tears! The finale pretty much sums up the whole series, a perfect cocktail of strong language, bloody gory violence and sex.

The makeup, costumes etc were fantastic. Not enough can ever be said about how good of an end it was to an already amazing series.

10/10, or if could, 100000/100000 ;) the series will be missed, and I hope the same production team make more similar shows perhaps based on other characters using some of the same cast that was in Spartacus.

Really!!! Are you kidding me? Is that the end what I'm waiting for !! Death to spartacus and all of his army ! So why should I've keep watching the story at all episode after episode season after season to see him dying at the end like that No need then for all this seasons if the end is sparctacus death you can just kill him in first season instead of paying our attention and time through all these seasons to let us know that death is what that hero deserved 😔👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Truly epic finale
seppwasned13 April 2013
For any TV show they promise epic finales all the time and usually there is more going on than in the average show. Yet usually the end is underwhelming or just good. This one however truly is amazing. The costumes, makeup with all the gore and battle just made me write my first review. If there ever was a finale of a TV show one must not miss, it is this one. This last episode beats the Game of Thrones production a few times over with its own battle on the Blackwater. For a TV show what the crew pulled of with this last one is very impressive. Only 100 Million Dollar movies may beat it with more detailed special effects but they don't have the amount of close combat with blood and sweat to no end.

Game of Thrones and Spartacus crew should team up. The former could use a little more and better battles.

Best Series On T.V.
cerrvier13 April 2013
Spartacus series was by far the best show on t.v. I have never in my life talked to the t.v so much. My heart was about to beat out of my chest. I never knew what was going to happen next, or how it was going to happen. I did not want Gannicus (SEXIEST MAN I have ever seen) to die, but knowing he gave his all and his pass is finally at peace.

Spartacus took along time to die, and when he did pass he was able to see his wife face again. I was like she was welcoming her husband home. That was beautiful. Now the writer need to come out with a series based on CAESAR and his Romans; how he became king.

Overall, everything about this show was GREAT!!!! The show was raw and real. It can't get no better than what it was. If it does, next time i might die watching the show.(lol)

Brilliance.. redefined..
sffh-114 April 2013
I saw the last episode last night.. It seems like the whole 4 years put in a plate served with emotion, action as main course and sex on the sides..

It sounds like a cliché, but this was such a well-made finale that I really felt I owe it to the makers of this show to write this review for such an experience..

The season starts very slow, and I thought it was losing the touch, but the guys behind the show once again proved the critics wrong..

mates, "Put your eyes to purpose" this is A MUST WATCH.. every reason not to watch this would be an excuse..

A 10/10 finish to an epic season
shashiu-kumar17 April 2013
This is probably one of the finest Series Finales ever....I started watching this show 3 years back skeptically..first season even though at times tight in the script and dialogs was marred by cheap production values and resembled soft core...but with the prequel things changed and though was not a big fan of season two, the final season came into its own. Liam found his feet as Spartacus and the supporting cast was excellent (a fine antagonist and the reason i started liking this show....Gannicus in prime form) and the it reached the crescendo with the finale.....the production values are not cheap anymore even though shot on green screen and can put to shame any high budget period drama...the dialogs are crisp and the drama riveting...add to it the perfectly synchronized action sequences and you have a perfect episode...the only complaint i have with the episode is that its the last episode of this fantastic series...wish they could have continued with another season

I gave it a 10 because there's no "infinity " rating
MarkFWeber818 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Utterly riveting---I was on the edge of my seat throughout, although I knew how it basically had to end. The last season was the best--and the last episode was perfection--comparable to the best movies. It is curious that for all the vilification his own name has suffered, Karl Marx was among the first to recognize the true heroism of the real Spartacus. I am surprised that no commenter "mourned" the fate of Kore, whom I felt to be a sympathetic character. Crassus was fascinating: he was revoltingly brutal, and like actual Roman elites, he placed the aggrandizement of his own power above all else. Yet unlike the other Romans, he had a kind of integrity: he was not sadistic, and he did not despise slaves as worthless trash--he upbraided his son for thinking himself better than Crassus' gladiator slave. He admired Spartacus, which is why he sought a tete-a-tete before the final battle; when he thought he was about to kill Spartacus, he lamented that fate didn't allow them to fight as comrades. He seemed admiringly in awe as Spartacus continued to try and attack even when he was transfixed by three spears. Yet Crassus could not seem to grasp that it was no longer personal for Spartacus; nor were they similar, with each simply the leader of opposing armies. Hence, any respect Spartacus might feel for Crassus was insignificant compared to his hatred of Crassus as the very embodiment of hierarchy and domination within a society or between societies. The episode was so moving, reliving it by writing this almost brings tears to my eyes!

Perfect end to an Epic Series
jace-rynearson19 February 2023
If you know the story of Spartacus, you know there was no happy ending. They didn't beat the sheer size of the Roman Army, they didn't immediately ensure an end to slavery, and there was a lot more death in the final battle. But is this finale, keeping it close to the truth, as absurdly saddening as you'd expect? No, shockingly. It spends a great deal of it's time tying up all the remaining character arcs before the final battle, which is hugely epic by the way, and it rides off the theme of dying for a noble cause and succeeding in a different way. It somehow manages to make a massive historical tragedy hugely bittersweet, and even plenty of character deaths are heartwarming rather than outright tragic since they lose better than the winners won. It does all that while tying up every loose end remaining and giving a hugely satisfying conclusion despite the tragedy, which I would've never thought was possible. It ends in a much better way than some other similar series, especially those by HBO, cough, cough. It's worth watching the entire series through just for episodes like this.

Warning: Spoilers
True, this was the victory of a free man. The finale cinematography was so awesome that there were moments I thought it was all going in real. It hurts but was good to see spartacus and gannicus fighting and getting tired at the end, they were humans right. Gannicus was the only one who can make impossible happen. The smile spartacus had in the end, remembered me of Maximus from "Gladiator". Finally the credits will make you cry but the end music will fill your heart with proud. I think I have to buy the DVD, so that I can embrace it near my heart. Will definitely miss- "The Spartacus". Thanks for making such a great series. And thanks to you IMDb, because through you I came to know about this.

A Perfect Ending.
lewissaddington31 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Of course, it isn't perfect. History is told fairly accurately, we lose most of our beloved characters, and many tears are shed... Spartacus, the Bringer of Rain.

That being said, this is the perfect example of a perfectly executed television finale. The story is poetic, the characters get fitting and satisfying endings to their stories and arcs (deserved or no), the final battle is a true spectacle, and the conclusion is a heart-breaking but fantastic end to a glorious show. I have binged Spartacus in its entirety twice this year, and for a show to end on its highest note, its best episode, is something all shows should strive for.

I would also not be true to myself if I didn't, as a final point, mention my own favourite scene! The mighty Lugo, though mostly a secondary character, is my favourite in the show, and his death is spectacular, as well as a great example of how these beloved characters get fitting ends. A fierce warrior, he goes out in a way only Lugo could go out; in a blaze of glory, with Roman blood on his warhammer and a curse of defiance on his lips!

So here's to the actors and the crew; thank you for this show, and thank you for giving it the ending it deserves. I am Spartacus!

funkhouser1013 April 2013
Never have I been so emotionally engulfed by ANYTHING... EVER... on television. What makes it even more remarkable is that we all new how the story would end. We all know the story... It's historical fact. Most of us saw the movie with Kurt Douglas. YET... STILL... I stand in AW of how it played out. The acting, the fight scenes, the wardrobes, etc... perfection. This perfection was at its finest with the story line of GANICUS. When his story reached it's conclusion, I found myself OVERWHELMED with emotion. BRAVO Spartacus!!! The actors, the writers, the directors... the entire crew... As far as I am concerned, you have set a very new (and high) standard in the television game.

Another Kind of victory

Warning: Spoilers
When Rome is mentioned you won't remember all its kings or its great warriors but only another name will always have been remembered, Spaaaartaaaacuuuus....Spaaaartaaaacuuuus. for a moment I forgot what did happen in the real history and I thought Spartacus will won and take the capital Rome, sadly it didn't happen. a great ending for a real story of a man sakes for freedom against an entire republic and he gives all the sacrifices even his live.

Spartacus stood victorious at last
suhaibalazzeh31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
All men shall die but not all men die with honor after trying their very best , Crixus' death was a foreshadowing of what it is to come of Spartacus after his passing . They will not live forever that is a fact but can they be remembered as men with honor and seeking a just cause ? The answer was yes . Spartacus' name is what any freedom fighter shall cherish other than any roman leader in history the likes of Crassus or Glaber whom they could've been replaced easily or swayed with political favors but not the likes of any Spartcus , Gannicus or any main comrade that aided his mission . The final moments of the battle when Pompeii showed up to snatch the win from Crassus and his fellow Cesar (who got raped earlier ) did indicate such servitude to what is convenient and not any cause , Crassus lost his son , the title and the woman who loved ounce while Spartacus disappear at the end with a memory of a loving wife, friends and a prophecy fulfilled of achieving great but unfortunate things .
