A different view on growing up?

Intriguing documentary. One could enjoy it just for the scenery.

It's one of those films that forces the viewer to re-examine their lifestyle and values, at least the ones taken for granted in the developed world. I think many of us get frustrated at having to wait 10 minutes at a stop light or for anything blocking our rush to get to the next activity; this movie centers around a family that must walk for 10 days to get to an airfield to take them to another airport to catch a flight to Kathmandu.

And for parents in the West, maybe a good idea to take children who perhaps complain a bit too much about not having enough of the "right things."

Arranged marriage vs western love

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, this is very poignant.

The tension is not only believed but felt.

Generations have lived in one way of the son is more important. He is meant to marry. It's always been that way for his parents and their parents and so on. A son can brings lots of money to the family if he merries well. This wasn't included in the documentary. I suspect that he didn't want his parents to look bad.

You are left wondering; what is the answer? What do children who have an education do? Should they have dreams different from their parents? Are they somehow wrong for not wanting to live in the harsh environment of their ancestors? What happened next for all of them? Did they find a solution? How are they?

I find myself asking those questions.

Over all, it's definitely worth the watch.

A tale as old as time.....tradition vs. Modernization.

Survival and family loyalty vs. Self actualization.

The photography, authenticity and brilliant portrait of the human condition had me captivated. Thank you!
