the no budget made it a failure

It took a while before this flick became available in it's home country Belgium. That's a bit strange because it was written by Johan Vandewoestijne or better known as John Desert, in fact he did most of the things himself here in Purgatory. Producing, editing and we can go on.

It's a nice attempt by the director to make a good horror flick but it failed a bit here and there due some reasons. There isn't any suspense at all and the story itself due the no budget doesn't look believable. maybe it's the fact that you really don't see the difference between the limbo world and the real world. Not only that, all actors are starters and are speaking Flemish or Dutch but here they are trying to speak English. For some it worked for others it really looks laughable.

Luckily I could dig the acting of the main lead Ruth Verhelst here as Kristen. Maybe you will recognize her face if you are into alternative Belgian music, she used to play bass with Daan and Novastar.

What bothered me was the so called masturbation scene. With clothes on, really, or the shower scene were Ruth immediately comes out wrapped in a bath towel. It's clear that she didn't want to do any nudity.

Not one of Vandewoestijne's best flicks (Rabid Grannies (1988) or Lucker (1986)) both cult classics but Purgatory won't become a cult classic after all. Still, I could watch it without touching the fast forward. Not bloody at all.
