Ahhhh Valentine’s Day, a time for love, candy hearts, cute stuffed teddy bears and brutality from WWE. There’s something special in the air at this time of year and, far from getting all lovey-dovey, it leads to superstars bringing out their worst side in the ring. Be it violent beatdowns or shocking upsets there’s always something interesting going on in mid-February.
Today we’ll take a look at the fascinating history of WWE violence and surprises surrounding the day of love, starting at the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre PPV back in 1999. It seems only fitting that a tradition such as this one would begin with Mr. McMahon, and would feature some of the most vicious superstars ever seen in a WWE ring.
There are moments that we all know and love and some that will send you to the WWE Network to see exactly what I’m talking about.

Randy Orton is looking for a lightened WWE schedule, a report in the wrestling observer newsletter states.
The story first emerged when Ric Flair mentioned it on his podcast, noting that Orton is after the old Shawn Michaels schedule. He’d work for a while, then have lots of time off. He wouldn’t do a ton of shows, especially avoiding house shows.
The thing is, Orton is only 35. Michaels was a veteran when he had that part time deal from 2002 – 2010. But the observer report points out “That’s one of the perks of his making so much money over the past decade, in the sense he is probably set financially.”
Orton was main eventing for WWE as far back as 2003, when he took part in SummerSlam’s Elimination Chamber match. He’s easily been making over a million dollars a year for a decade now. He could just...

At Elimination Chamber, the WWE World Heavyweight Title match had the kind of finish that makes fans groan so hard that they’re in danger of rupturing their spleens. Dean Ambrose was diving from the top turnbuckle onto Seth Rollins, who pulled the referee into harm’s way instead. While the ref was nursing his boo-boo on the outside, Ambrose hit Rollins with Dirty Deeds and covered him, a new referee rushing to the ring to count the 1-2-3. Ambrose won the WWE World Heavyweight Title for two minutes, during which the internet exploded.
Of course it was not to be, and in a booking decision that would make Dusty Rhodes proud, the original ref ruled that Rollins was disqualified for attacking him, meaning that while Ambrose won the match by Dq, he didn’t win the belt. Ambrose thought, ‘well knackers to that’ and announced that,...

WWE will wrap up a year that began with such potential and is ending with disappointment with its TLC pay-per-view on December 14. The sixth instalment of this PPV will include matches with each of the signature gimmicks the event traditionally boasts: a chairs match, a ladder match, a tables match and a TLC contest that incorporates all three weapons.
Those with a decent sense of history know that TLC matches go back several years further than the PPV does. The TLC match between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt will actually be the 16th (or 17th, depending on your point of view) such match in WWE. The first several tables, ladders & chairs matches defined several wrestlers’ careers and raised the bar in terms of performance, risk-taking and overall workmanship.

The morning after the night before has usually been a hangover for WWE in recent pay per view efforts, with last month in particular leading to mainstream criticism of the Royal Rumble. It was interesting to see then how the company would handle February’s Elimination Chamber event, particularly the awkward placements of its characters ahead of the last stop before Wrestlemania 30.
The promoting of this event was pretty decent. It made for enjoyable television to see Randy Orton having to face off against his opponents for the Chamber on Raw and Smackdown, and the teases for the Wyatt Family versus The Shield were brilliant. The excitement of the go home Raw in particular was strong, so there is a good chance WWE will do some fair buys for its last ever traditional Pay per view.
The problem with the company lays in delivery. The last six months have been...

The WWE Intercontinental Title has been in existence since it was given to Pat Patterson in September of 1979. They like to say that he won a tournament, but that’s more of a “wink wink” type of deal because the tournament didn’t even happen.
Over the years, the Ic Title has gone from a very valuable prize from the mid 1980s when Randy Savage was holding it until the mid 1990s or so when guys like Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels were putting their bodies on the line in ladder matches.
Once we got to the 2000s, the value of the title decreased significantly. There was even a point in October 2002 when Triple H unified the Ic Title with the World Title simply because WWE realized they weren’t booking the Ic Title well.
In 2003, they brought the Ic Title back because they probably realized that midcarders need something to fight for.

With the prospect of an Orton vs. Batista WrestleMania main event in sight, here’s a list of superstars fans would rather see in the main event than Randy Orton. At time of writing, the Elimination Chamber has yet to happen, so Orton could drop the title and be replaced by someone more appealing.
Nevertheless, this is more of a general who we would rather see than looking at the specific permutations of the remainder of the Road to WrestleMania. So guys who aren’t currently in the mix are included in the list, looking from the view of those we’d have liked to have been worked into the mix.
Superstars who aren’t with the company, retired or inactive aren’t going to be included (Ok, with the exception of one). So as much as we’d all...

Since his entry into the world of the WWE in 2012 (2011 in Fcw), Cesaro has shown that not only can he has a good match with anyone, no matter the size, but he can get the best match out of almost anyone. His acts of strength have put us in awe. The first time he Neutralized Brodus Clay, my jaw almost hit the floor. The way he can put any superstar in the Cesaro Swing is amazing and the fans love to see spectacles of the such.
However, since joining the main roster, he has had to endure some pretty bad booking and terrible gimmicks. He started as a ultra-euro rugby player/boyfriend of Aksana and was there just to torment Teddy Long. I will now say a word in five languages to tell you if this was a good idea: French,...

Hulk Hogan will return to WWE Television on the 24th of February Raw in Green Bay, Wisconsin, reports PWInsider.
That Raw comes the night after Elimination Chamber and on the evening of the WWE Network launch. In addition to Hogan, his long time manager Jimmy Hart is also expected to be in attendance on Raw, to promote his show ‘Legends House’ which will be featuring on the WWE Network.
The report of Hogan’s return also reveals some of the details of his deal with WWE. The Hulkster agreed the contract shortly after leaving Tna a few months ago. The WWE had discussed using Hogan for publicity attention at the Network announcement in Las Vegas on January 8th, but instead decided he would be better utilised on WWE television.
As we reported yesterday, The Undertaker is also scheduled to return on the February 24th Raw.

Antonio Cesaro could be a huge star in the WWE. He’s only held one title so far, his run as United States Champion in 2012. At 33 years old he’s probably entering the prime years of his career. He stands over 6 foot tall, seems to be carved from stone, and is possibly the strongest pound for pound competitor the WWE has seen. He is an exciting prospect for fans of wrestling. Yet somehow he has not yet made it to the top table in WWE. He was a singles competitor at the start of his WWE career, but has more recently been seen in a tag team with Jack Swagger. Swagger is a former World Heavyweight Champion, Ecw Champion and Money in the Bank winner. Cesaro is more than capable of surpassing the achievements of Jack Swagger, and from this team he should emerge as a genuine main event star.

When the WWE made the decision that we would have one world champion, a problem developed with one of the company’s big events on the Road to WrestleMania: Elimination Chamber. With their no longer being two champions, there comes a problem and that problem is what do you do with the Chamber match? Do you have the champion defend? Does the Rumble winner put up his title shot at the Grandest Stage of Them All?
Well, I have an idea for this year’s Elimination Chamber match and it involves no belts or title shots on the line. What are those six men stepping into the cage for? The chance to end The Streak. If you hype the fact that six men are going to enter The Devil’s Playground and the winner gets the shot at ending The Streak that would get people to buy.
Think about it like this,...

When many people think of the great WrestleManias, a select number of events tend to pop up in the mind of most fans. WrestleMania X7 is probably the best WrestleMania of all time and a candidate for the best American wrestling PPV of all time. WrestleMania III is up there thanks to the spectacle of the Silverdome and a rather great event overall. That’s fine and dandy, but I’m going to throw a different WrestleMania into the mix. WrestleMania VII may be the best WrestleMania that nobody talks about.
First, let’s address the elephant in the room and one of the main reasons that most fans tend to shy away from WrestleMania: Gulfsploitation. I don’t even know if that is a word, but that is probably the best name for it. Taking Sgt. Slaughter who at that point had been portrayed as an American hero...

Alberto Del Rio Vs Jack Swagger was actually one of Del Rio’s better matches since joining WWE. Swagger provided the right level of heelish behaviour to keep Del Rio on his toes and gave him a mountain to climb in his bid to get over with WWE’s fans.
I’m about as surprised by Del Rio’s victory as I am WWE’s decision to keep Swagger in the match at all given his conduct outside the ring since returning to WWE at Elimination Chamber. Going forward with The Jack Swagger Project was obviously more important to Vince than making an example of one of it’s stars and showing the world that the Wellness Policy actually means something. Hey, I’m a massive Swagger fan but there’s no way he deserved a Wrestlemania title match.
That being said Swagger showed us all why given the right...

The Sun Herald has released Jack Swagger’s mug shot to the general public in their latest report on the shamed WWE Superstar’s arrest Tuesday night for DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
Swagger, whose real name is Donald Jacob Hager, was in the midst of a huge de-push last year before disappearing from TV completely before Christmas. Following negotiations in which Vince McMahon supposedly convinced him to remain with the company, Swagger made a huge return after the Royal Rumble and was instantly added to the World Heavyweight Title picture. Shortly after making his comeback Swagger was paired with wrestling veteran ‘Dirty’ Dutch Mantel and the two quickly generated a ton of heat with their “We the people” gimmick which was widely criticised as borderline racist by the mainstream media.
In what was perhaps a huge shock for many fans Swagger ended up winning the Smackdown Elimination Chamber...
