Slightly better than the first episode
sbob32216 January 2023
They try to redeem Daphne but Velma continues to be terrible, Shaggy is pointless, and they seem to straight up hate Fred. I just don't get why they bothered using Scooby Doo characters, it adds nothing to the show and actually hurts it by ruining beloved characters. If this show wasn't using an existing IP then I would probably rate it just a little higher but even then 95% of the jokes don't land and it feels like a chore to watch this. When I finished this episode I turned the Cats movie on because I felt I had been too hard on it at least it tried unlike this.

Like last episodes review I stand by my bet that this will be 1 season then canceled.

Still Bad but a Bit More Decent than the First Episode (A Surprise for Me)
panagiotis199316 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so I watched the first episode, reviewed it and gave a rating of 1/10. I didn't want to watch more episodes after how bad the 1st episode was but I got curious to see if the show could get worse. So here I am, let's do this. Fred is so useless in this show that even eating food can't be done without help of adults. I wonder if there is anything good about Fred in this show. They make him look like he is the most selfish and useless person on the planet. Daphne is selling drugs? Velma is willing to help her because she wants money? And Velma's dad is a drug addict? Everyone is... let's say troubled in this show. So wait im confused. Daphne has a relationship with Fred. Velma likes Fred, Velma likes Daphne and will possibly have a relationship with her in future episodes based on the episode's ending. Plus Norville likes Velma?

Very confusing plot. So while this episode was a bit less annoying than the first one, the problems of the first episode continue in this one. Fred is basically an infant at this point. Norville was and still is what most people would call ''a loser''. Daphne is trying to show that she is more than just a superficial selfish girl. Velma is non-stop judging people while in reality she has no idea what she is talking about, that happens every 2 to 3 minutes. It makes you feel tired while watching. The only character that I find to be somewhat likeable is Norville because while he is silly he has a kind heart while the rest of the characters appear to be poisonous. Im talking about Velma, Daphne and Fred. Also the plot and the way the characters act in this show are completely unrealistic. If they want this unrealistic view on things then they are doing a great job.

The only somewhat decent thing about the show is the animation, without being something amazing or special of course. My rating is 2/10 and this is the last Velma episode im watching, don't expect more Velma reviews from me.

This is more like it... i guess.

This episode is far, far worse than the first one. It's not utterly abysmal and unlikable. But compared to the first episode, this one is pretty poor.

The first episode i thought was a 5/10 (average). This one is more like a 3/10. This is however only my personal opinion.

I though that (unlike the first episode) i only liked a single part of this episode. That being the Fred parts. I thought Fred's parts in this show were the only good parts of this episode. I the whole episode was this then it would have been far better. But even throughout the Fred parts there was still a scene or two i disliked.

The part with Norville's little story was not as bad as Velma and Daphne's storyline which i thought was abysmal. But his story wasn't anything special at all. If it was all Fred's story this could've been another 5/10 from me.

This episode still isn't as bad as i believe people say the show is after these first two episodes. However i do believe it is a step down from the first episode.

Shocking U-Turn

Warning: Spoilers
I think they knew most people would switch off after an episode like that, so it eased off.

Don't get me wrong, the meta humor still lets down the show, the weird sexualisation is still there in the background, I absolutely hate the pregnancy gross-out, the 420 joke was horrible, an Norville's pointless romance subplot drags down the show. This Gigi (not called Scoobi, that's a hoax) can't come into the fray any sooner.

Fred's plot really drags down the episode. He's innocent, we know he's innocent, but the writer wants to drag this out, horribly failing.

The drug plot wasn't great.

That's all I hated. Daphne's arc is actually going great, I actually don't hate her. That's 1/4 main characters that aren't awful, and I can see Norville eventually joining that list.

Velma still is the worst part of the show, but her arc about coming to terms with her hallucinations is actually keeping me interested in her character.

Also, the humour and animation might be starting to recover. A few of the jokes were funny (the yarn for the conspiracy board coming from a sweater really got me) and the animation is great.

5/10 episode, I hope this show recovers, because I want it to shock me and be good.

The Candy (Wo)man
Prismark1010 May 2024
Once you ignore the sex, violence, bad language and nudity. You take this Scooby Doo spin off on its own terms.

Even then it is difficult. Velma goes to ask Daphne for her help. To ger Velma's mom cold case files. Daphne would give it to her for $500 but it soon becomes clear that they have the hots for each other.

Daphne certainly would not have the hots for Fred. Accused of murder and taking out women's brains. Velma's dad will defend him.

Fred is infantilised both in body and brain. He is too stupid to kill anyone. Much to his father's disgust. He is too stupid to run a successful clothing company as well.

Still the humour is too hit and miss. There was some nice touches. A 21 Jump Street riff with undercover teenage cops looking for the candy man.. Well there is too much drug dealing in that school.

Fun and Hilarious

Ignore all these stuffy originalists. Geez! It's an adult cartoon with the creative driving force of Mindy Kaling. This show isn't even being given a chance and holy spooks it's actually good. I'm two episodes in and am looking forward to what crazy shenanigans they get in next.

When you do a reboot of a beloved work, you gotta do your version and swing for the fences. I like this shake up. And of course it's not going to be the same story as before (boring) because it's Velma's story. It's her pov! FINALLY! And I love it.

She's brash and unlikeable at first but I can already see the character learning and growing.

It's snarky, self aware, goofy, and adultishly fun.

If you like shows like Big Mouth, you like this.

Leading up to a kiss!
jaredprophet26 January 2023
This episode takes some wild swings with the drug dealing and what not, but these early hints at the mystery at the core of this series are tantalizing.

And the monstrous hallucinations that Velma has are incredible. They are so gripping and terrifying.

From the way episode 2 ends, you can tell that the series is going to unfold in incredible ways. Much like Willow.

Willow was a goofy movie, and the series starts out a bit goofy because none of the characters have ever been challenged, but by the end they've been through some things and have gained skills and grown as characters.

And I can tell from the end of this episode, it's the very same for Velma.

This show is incredible and this is a great episode.
