To say that Suzume is one of the best anime movies to have ever been created wouldn’t be a lie considering the tremendous ratings the film has earned from almost all platforms. Encircling the life of a young teenager of the same name who sets out to save Japan through her ability to see supernatural forces, the 2022 masterpiece was a critically commended blockbuster.

Yet, despite being such a beloved option for most fans, the adventure-drama movie was still turned down when it sought acknowledgment from the Academy, wounding up with nothing more than zero nominations. And to rub salt in the wound, Suzume‘s recently winning the award for Best Anime Film has further proved to fans that Margot Robbie wasn’t the only one snubbed at the Oscars 2024.

In 2118, the Japanese government has enforced a mandatory system known as Sibyl, which uses software to analyze the criminal tendencies and capability of the general public. When the chief inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department Akane (Kana Hanazawa) investigates the mysterious death of a professor, she finds research papers that could shake the existing system to the core. Along with some unexpected allies, Akane sets out in search of the truth — even if it means confronting life-threatening obstacles along the way.
Back in 2013, Psycho-pass was merely the latest anime series to gain public traction. Ten years later, a franchise comprised of episodes, films, and sub-series has created a long-standing fanbase that only wants more from its favourite characters. It makes sense then that the anime would mark its tenth anniversary...

Tom Cruise‘s action flick “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” the seventh installment of the franchise that began way back in 1996, opened across the country and did decently, but maybe not as well as some hoped or expected. Read on for the weekend box office report.
“Mission: Impossible 7” opened early on Wednesday with previews on Tuesday, but it came into the week with absolutely fantastic reviews with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (his third movie in the franchise), Cruise was once again joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Vanessa Kirby, with new players in Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales and Pom Klementieff.

Expressing solidarity with Hollywood actors on Day 1 of the SAG-AFTRA strike, specialty distributors polled were anxiously juggling opening weekend Q&As and movie premieres without talent. They were trying to clarify which actors on what international productions are SAG-AFTRA, bound by the guild, or neither. And, for those involved in production, trying to pin down the status of interim agreements for independent fare.
“I think we are all quite confused,” said one executive in the distribution space. “I’m trying to get SAG-AFTRA on the phone for a film we are opening in August. I have friends with films opening next Friday.” Individuals preferred not to be quoted given the sensitivity of the situation.
There’s much buzz around waivers, or interim agreements that SAG-AFTRA has said it will grant indie productions with zero studio/AMPTP ties. But there is still a lack of clarity around the application process and...

As I have mentioned in the past, the “Psycho-Pass” franchise is probably the closest thing we have in the combination of contextual depth and intricate action that the masterful “Ghost in the Shell” first brought in the world of anime, at least until Netflix got its hands on it. The fact is quite eloquently presented in the “Psycho-Pass 3” line, of which “Psycho-pass: Providence” is the latest entry, set in January 2118, two months after the ending of “Sinners of the System” and near three years before “Psycho-Pass 3”, thus providing the missing link between the two.
“Psycho-pass: Providence” arrives in theaters on Friday, July 14 in North America, courtesy of Crunchyroll
For those not familiar with the main premise of the series, the story takes place in a future Japan that has secluded itself from other countries due to its food autarky. The Sibyl System has taken over the judicial sector, by actively measuring the populace's mental states,...

Pic is set in 1967 and follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily (Smith), Eileen (Bates) and Dolly (O’Casey) of Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in Dublin, who have one tantalizing dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, that place of miracles that draws millions of visitors each year. When the chance to win presents itself, the women seize it. However, just before their trip,...
