Two Douchebags Talk Smack About a Girl
mariajonasfahlsing21 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING: This movie glorifies alcoholism, cyber-bullying, cyber-crime, drunkenness, fighting, gossip, hacking, homophobia, irresponsibility, marijuana, misogyny, name-calling, objectification of women, rape culture, revenge, sexual harassment, swearing, and more.

Two friends who swear too much, Joey and Steven, conspire to make a video to catch Joey's girlfriend, Jennifer, red-handed cheating on Joey which he suspects. They call her several misogynistic names which I do not care to repeat here, perpetuate the ill-treatment of women in general with their male chauvinistic pig behavior and language, and are generally unlikable from the first moments of the movie.

Steven is a douchebaggy jerk and a tool who deserves to be slapped and banished from Joey's life immediately. Steven is the sole reason that Joey started freaking out on the plane and had a panic attack which landed Joey in the hospital for four days. What kind of a "friend" does that?! Steven is a major jerk and I already hate him and the movie hasn't even been playing for ten minutes.

When the guys get to the demolished hotel, which they stop at for some completely asinine reason, they claim that there is blood on the wall. Um, that is clearly paint. These guys are obnoxiously loud, annoying, argumentative, and generally irritating. I really want them to shut up, but I have to watch the movie to the end, because I'm not a quitter. Also, there has to be some kind of a twist ending (or so I suspect) to make watching this terrible excuse for a plot line redeemable.

Then, the misogyny and maltreatment of women gets even worse when one of the guys brings two prostitutes to sleep with Joey to mellow him out. Seriously, the way women are treated and portrayed in this movie makes me really angry.

By the end of the movie, I wanted to strangle the guys if they said any variation of the word "fuck" or screamed at each other one more time. I hate each and every one of the three main characters (Joey, Steven, and Martin) with an unwavering passion. Seriously, I want them all dead. Right now. They deserve to die for how annoying their characters are. Oh, Martin's already dead and wrapped in trash bags in the trunk? Awesome! Only two more guys need to die. SWEET! Joey killed Jennifer's other boyfriend, stabs Steven in the back as Steven tries to escape down the stairs after discovering the boyfriend's corpse and a bloody Joey holding a knife nearby, and Jennifer is now Joey's captive. Oh, so Joey is a complete psychopath and his relationship with Jennifer is completely a figment of his imagination. Wow, super creepy!

If you want to watch men and women argue, speak such that a swear word is every second or third word, treat women like objects, call women horrid names like "slut," "whore," and worse; and act like "he-man woman haters" to whom women are only good for sex and are expected to look beautiful and be sexually available at all times and enjoy a twist ending, the final 15 minutes of the movie redeem the other 75 minutes of seemingly unnecessary footage. All of the characters, except for maybe Joey's mother and Jennifer, are extremely hate-able, awful people. Otherwise, if men who behave like Neanderthals and believe in the principle of "bros before hos" aren't your cup of tea, skip this piece of oppressive, misogynistic, offensive amateur cinematic drivel.

Fake reviews GALORE for this movie.
nickmarcantonio6 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a seasoned reviewer as many are on here. However, I hope to save someone from going through what I just went through.

I fell for the reviews and thought I'd give this FF horror flick a shot. Sadly, the horror aspect doesn't come into play until the end of the movie. What we do get is.....

A video diary of a whiny, candy butt guy who is obsessing over his alleged girlfriend. He is accompany an annoyingly endless cousin who does nothing but giggle and make really bad choices. All we really see is the cousin and another buddy attempting to get Joey, the main characters kind of the girlfriend who is supposedly cheating on him, by taking him to parties and bringing him prostitutes. However monotonous this is, the best has yet to come....

Your cousin goes into a house of a girl and when you open the truck and find the dead body of your friend, rather than call the cops as most people would do, you instead drop the call and go into the house. But before leaving the corpse, you say a meaningful "Im sorry".

The problem with this movie besides the obvious, is that while it does delve into character development, that's really all it does. No surprises here. CLEARLY, this guy has issues. Clearly, the supposed girlfriend has no idea why the main character would be calling. Clearly, it's strange that a friend who is just let you borrow his car to make a long distance drive and when you attempt to call him, you are told not to. Clearly, it's strange that the main character will not stop for any reason. Clearly, it's suspicious when your friends body turns up in the trunk......on and on.

Interesting premise, but poor execution. Everything is so obvious and the ridiculousness of the plot, the choices made, all leads up to a big disappointment. The cousin, Steve, is so annoying and utterly clueless, it just proved a big waste of time.

One long a** road trip with no payoff
befoulmetalroosa7 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is billed as a comedy. Other than a couple of minor laughs, it is not in the least funny. Nor is it horrifying. Nor is it even remotely interesting. It's a 'home-made' movie about two dudes, who are cousins, filming one dude's slam against his cheating girlfriend. They go on a plane where girlfriend-dude throws a major panic attack and ends up staying in the hospital for three days under psych eval. That was tipoff number one.

They finally get out, and the dudes call third dude, who comes to pick them up. BTW, girlfriend-dude is Joey, cousin is Steve, and douche-dude is Martin. Anywho, they get to Martin's house, where Joey proceeds to have a meltdown. He wants to travel to Jennifer's house (girlfriend) with the footage to film her cheating. I was never sure of the purpose of the film; no one ever mentioned what they wanted to do with it, other than show it to Jennifer as proof of her infidelity. Maybe YouTube.

Martin takes his buds to a party and tries to hook Joey up with someone else. Unfortunately, the girl kicks Joey's a**. They go back to Martin's house, where Joey continues to whine and nag about the road trip until Martin gives in. An hour into the trip and they stop at a rundown motel, which has the obligatory crime scene room. Martin parks them in a quasi-functional room and takes two hours to procure two hookers (one of them is a shemale) for Joey, who goes postal. Martin leaves, Joey follows. He goes to an ATM to get the money that Martin didn't have for the escorts, and kills Martin while he's at it, stealing the dead man's car.

The cousins finally get to the house, some loud screaming between the two occurs, and Joey goes into Jennifer's house. He left the trunk of Martin's car open, and Steve discovers Martin's dead body inside it, so, being the total idiot he is, he enters the house to hunt down his wayward cousin, earning himself his death for disobeying Joey. The rest of the film is Joey hunting his 'girlfriend' and terrorizing her.

This thing was a mess from the get go. It was violently anti-woman, depicting females as sluts and whores. Not one single female was represented in a positive way; even the mother was lacking. The director really needs to take a long, hard look at himself, and figure out why he hates women like he does.

STOP SHOOTING STUPID STUFF
nogodnomasters23 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Joey (Chuck Pappas) believes his traveling girlfriend Jennifer (Jessica Cameron) has been cheating on him. He enlists his cousin Steve (James Cullen Bressack) to be a camera man as he wants to catch her cheating on film as well as everything else. They also have a friend named Martin (Jody Barton) help them out.

Joey defines spastic. When Joey isn't shouting at the camera or someone, the film shows a partial face Joey quietly lamenting. Apparently they wanted to get the contrast of his personality.

Film was very boring and not done well. It is short too, but only seems long.

Guide: F-bomb. Implied sex. No nudity.

Very effective ending
Red_Identity29 October 2014
I've gotta say, I didn't entirely like all the film. It was pretty predictable, and you can just tell where it's going by many clues and the film doesn't really make it a secret. But still, the climax of the film is pretty effective, and it gets its point across pretty dang effectively when all is said and done. The ending is super disturbing without really showing much, and not in the usual way horror films are. Part of the reason you know where it's going is because of the "horror" label. It also has probably the most disturbing end credits ever, from what I remember. Really good call on a lot of the decisions made here, but I still can't help but feel like the film could've been more consistent and done more in its running time

Felt long and boring
MiniCooper9110 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie felt really long and boring. I love horror movies and I do enjoy found footage movies. This was disappointing. The whole movie 3 guys yelled at each other and nothing happened. The guys were all unlikable too. I truly didnt care if any of them died. The ending couldn't even redeem this movie. Especially when his friend literally walks through the house yelling "did you kill Martin?" That was the most unbelievable part. He didn't call the cops he just randomly walks through someone's house yelling and he knew they were home too so it's just weird. I chose to watch this movie because it was over 5 stars and I know horror movies are harshly judged. This was just bad though. I wasted my time. Yes, it's cool that they filmed it using an IPhone but they could've wrote a better movie.

I actually really liked this one
DireWolfCurse25 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
At first, To Jennifer seems like just another found footage video, and if it weren't in the "Horror" section of Amazon Prime, it would have been unclear where this was going. It took a while to set the exact tone, which was being set slowly throughout the film until it practically hits you in the head.

In the beginning, seemingly normal guy Joey talks about how he got an accidental text message from his 2-year-long girlfriend Jennifer, How about you come finish what you started last night ;)  He explains how he plans on bringing his cousin Steve with him to his hometown (I'm not entirely sure if the movie ever said the name of the town) to record on video the events leading to him catching Jennifer cheating.

A few snags are caught. First, the two get kicked off the airplane because Joey has a panic attack in the plane bathroom while they are trying to take off. He ends up hospitalized for a few days because of it.

Their friend Martin picks them up from the hospital, several hours late. He's a stoner and a party animal, and he convinces a reluctant Joey to go out partying and try to "forget about Jennifer." However, Joey is unable to follow through with Martin's attempts to get him some action, and he hides out in the bathroom and documents himself vulnerably telling Jennifer he could never cheat on her like she did to him. It seems very real and touching.

The next couple of scenes involve a telephone interaction between Joey and Jennifer which is a huge red flag. Something just isn't right here! (It's pretty predictable.)

After lots of boyish arguments between characters, the climax of the film happens where we finally meet Jennifer and find out what this whole thing was really about. Like I said, it's predictable. However, its redeeming quality is the acting which is actually above average considering the genre. The song at the end, in my opinion, was pretty good. Pappas has a very nice singing voice, despite the fact that in context, it was extremely creepy. Also considering it was shot entirely with an iPhone, this is a unique film that I did not want to look away from.

James has done it again!
critzer1318 November 2013
I went into this movie knowing very little about the storyline, characters, etc. I suggest you do the same.

This flick was a lot of fun!

James Bressack an Chuck Pappas really killed it in this movie. I'm not gonna go into details to prevent spoilers, but I will say this movie was hilarious, creepy, and shot on the iPhone 5?!?! Talk about pure skill.

Awesome work. most definitely a great watch. You should do yourself a favor and become familiar with his movies because every single one is badass in it own unique way. You won't regret it.

To Jennifer is an entertaining found footage horror effort that should be interesting to those who enjoy the new "technology-based" horror flicks
extremehorrorcinema18 November 2013
James Cullen Bressack is a filmmaker who's quickly taking the underground horror scene by storm. In the past two years, he has produced several micro budget horror anthologies and directed four feature films which have gotten released. The four directing efforts of his to see release are My Pure Joy, 13/13/13, Hate Crime and To Jennifer. James has just finished directing his latest feature Pernicious (featuring effects by Toe Tag's Jerami Cruise) in Thailand. He is a truly energized and enthusiastic young filmmaker who has hit the ground running and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Today we take a look at the recently released To Jennifer, a found footage horror film like his previous effort Hate Crime, but considerably different in style and tone. Hate Crime was an extremely brutal and vicious found footage horror outing involving Neo-Nazis who invade the home of a Jewish family and terrorize them while filming their psychotic acts with the family's home video camera. Hate Crime has more in common with films like Fred Vogel's August Underground trilogy and things similar. It is essentially a cross between August Underground and the Spanish home invasion flick Kidnapped. To Jennifer has more in common with recent horror movies based on the new digital age with technology like iPhones, and internet Skype correspondence etc. being focused on. These types of films have included V/H/S, Megan Is Missing, Vlog etc. To Jennifer manages to be more than just a copy of those movies though and it has a genuine, original story.

To Jennifer tells the story of Joey (Chuck Pappas). Joey gets his iPhone and decides to make a continuing video journal with it because he suspects his girlfriend Jennifer has been cheating on him. He teams up with his friend Steven (played by Bressack himself) as they go on a road trip to document their adventure in finding their way to Jennifer so Joey can catch her in the act. Along the way Joey acts increasingly strange and seemingly becomes rather unstable mentally. He has a breakdown on an airplane which leads to him and Steven being put on a no-fly list and ends up in the hospital. They later meet up with an old friend who they go visit and party with. Joey has Skype conversations with his mom. His mom appears worried about his condition and wonders why he's never introduced her to Jennifer. Steven starts to wonder what's up with Joey as well. Things become increasingly more creepy and intense as Joey's condition worsens, leading to a terrifying conclusion when the inevitable confrontation with Jennifer comes to fruition.

While not as intense or disturbing as Hate Crime, To Jennifer is an entertaining found footage horror effort that should be interesting to those who enjoy the new "technology-based" horror flicks. It has some genuinely creepy moments, some gory stuff in the final act, and Chuck Pappas does a convincing job in the lead as Joey while James Cullen Bressack as Steven provides the bulk of the film's humor. Indie scream queen Jessica Cameron makes an appearance and Puppet Monster Massacre's Dustin Mills did the film's poster design.

The DVD release of To Jennifer from Psykik Junky Pictures and MVD contains an audio commentary and the film's trailer as extras. I recommend showing your support for Bressack and his films by going to Amazon.com and ordering this and Hate Crime, My Pure Joy and 13/13/13 today. Visit www.psykikjunkypictures.com for more info.

A road trip's descension towards hell
MrRamone42030 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
James Cullen Bressack has been able to create another independent horror gem in the form of "To Jennifer". This "found footage" is a heartbreaking tale that deals with the story of Joey and his concern that his girlfriend, Jennifer, of two years, is cheating on him. With the help of his cousin, Steve, and Steve's best friend Martin, they take a cross-country journey to find the answers to Joey's questions. On the way, they find action, adventure and maybe a tranny. Throughout the film, you get to have a better understanding of who these people are, as well as Jennifer. This as far as I will give towards any synapses and there will be no spoilers, since I encourage many others to check out this little indie horror that could. Once again, James is able to give the viewer an interesting characters in the form of Joey, Steve and Martin, all of which you do not want to take a road trip on with. This is a definite recommendation and I would encourage horror fans to give James's films a buy. Support independent horror.

My Review Of "To Jennifer"
ASouthernHorrorFan27 January 2014
How do I feel about "To Jennifer"? The story was a truly smart and creative out play that twists into an even more creative nightmare. I- even though I don't watch reality television-found myself completely absorbed in the affairs of Joey and Steve. I also related to the fact of trips with unpredictable people not going quite the way I expected, and finding it almost impossible to conceive the desired outcome. I never had it result in such a gruesome resolution, but still I related to the entertainment value of a messed-up turn of events. Added to the fact that Steve found everything happening too funny to take seriously, or to see any signs of the true horror in front of him, made the film seem more like watching Youtube video of goof offs- which was clever. You never see the wall until your about to hit it and then it is always too late.

The acting in this film isn't really polished but don't mistake it for amateurish, because the unpolished feel of the characters just lends to the notion that it is a documentary situation of regular guys on a mission. The use of the iphone5 as a filming format is brilliant, and is probably what made the most of this movie viewable, considering it is a slow build to the terrifying outcome as opposed to a set 'em up – knock 'em down horror film. The hidden motive that lies under the falderal of the story,(because face it-whining over a break up and wasting energy to pursue this type premise is foolish), was perfectly timed in it's slow reveal. It wasn't until the rundown hotel and hookers that I started to question the lead character Joey. By then I was so hooked on watching everything play out that, when the ending came, there was no way to prepare for the impact. I found myself once more held in tight anxiety and awe as Bressack brought back that familiar feeling of horror that I normally associate with his work. It was an experience that started from beginning to end in "Hate Crime" but wasn't accentuated until the last scenes of "To Jennifer", but the effect was the same powerful experience.

I think Bressack has found a niche in horror film making. His style plays on realism, twists it into almost surrealistic nightmares that, almost feel to real, and yet are completely entertaining. Even in their brutal exposition, of how the really scary sh*t that happens is a result of really scary people and not monsters, Bressack's film's always manage to define a true sense of horror lying in Man.
