Bonds to Break
tomasmmc-771982 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The reunion for team 7 now is complete, but the context is bad. There were some words that should have been said, and bonds that should have been broken. Naruto rescues Sakura and receives a small cut on his face, while Kakashi takes advantage of the situation and entertains Sasuke. He still holds her, and then Kakashi returns by their side, with the three confronting the Uchiha. Naruto carefully leaves Sakura over the water, and she thanks him. Though he is gentle with his gestures (he doesn't let go her shoulder until she is safe), he ignores her and faces Sasuke. Naruto tells him that she is a member of team 7, like them, but he answers that he is not part of that team anymore. This was the so called Naruto's reproach. Obviously, it was pathetic. This line wasn't from the real Naruto. He is usually senseful, someone loud, who express his feelings, whether if it's sadness, fear, anger, joy. That was the real Naruto during most of the story. So here, the obvious reaction to see Sasuke attempting to kill Sakura, should have been a furious shout, angry reproach, in defense of the girl he loves. But instead was showed a cold headed, serious, unreasonable Naruto. Then, Kakashi tells them, especially to Naruto I think, that Sasuke's intentions to kill are real, they must understand. Still, Naruto is oblivious and tell Sasuke that he knows the truth about Itachi, Tobi told them. They are all surprised to hear this, especially Sakura. Naruto says that what he did is understandable but Sasuke repeats that he doesn't have a family or bonds, so he can't understand. The Uchiha orders him to shut up. Now, Sakura reacts and defends Naruto, saying how after all the rumours, he was the only one to defend him, the only one to consider him a friend. About this, Naruto is not being reasonable because he is justifying Sasuke after what he did. One thing is to understand the reasons to go after the council of Konoha, or to plan a coup d'etat against Konoha, to justify the revenge. But to ignore the fact that Sasuke tried to capture the Hachibi, that he killed countless samurais, or that he would have killed Sakura is to be delusional. They had nothing to do with revenge. Here Naruto is poorly written, Kakashi and Sakura were stunned to hear him. As for Sakura, by defending Naruto, proved loyalty to him, and that she doesn't mind confronting Sasuke. Though should be obvious, she is on Naruto's side, like in all Shippuden.

The plotline follows: Sakura says thay he is the only one who still wants to save Sasuke, from the revenge, adds Naruto. So the Uchiha tells he doesn't need saving, and reveals that he recently killed Danzo, leaving the three stunned. He feels great, cleaning the Uchiha's name, freeing them of the corrupted shinobi world. That's why Sasuke intends to erase Konoha for good, and restore the Uchiha clan, purifying their name. The three are shocked, and Kakashi thinks how Naruto and Sakura are too young to understand how Sasuke is a consequence of the hate in shinobi world. So, he asks them to leave, as they don't have to see what he is going to do. Sakura protests, but he says that the poisoned kunai surely won't work on Sasuke as Orochimaru made him immune, also, she realized she can't kill him. It's Kakashis' responsibility as the sensei. Naruto, who has made three clones, doesn't like his decision, so he uses one clone to grab him, while the others form a rasengan. Soon, Naruto heads towards Sasuke who has formed the chidori. As they are about to clash, Kakashi shouts at Naruto not to do it, while Sakura screams his name. In the meantime, Karin, recovered at the bridge, thinks that Sasuke won't survive another fight after she healed him. But when she remembers that he coldly stabbed her, decides to stop worrying about him (good for her). All this resumes what happened in the episode, without considering the flashbacks. The best was Kakashi's decision to eliminate Sasuke once and for all. He saw earlier that his Susanoo disappeared for some reason, and now guesses that it was because Sasuke fought Danzo. He wants to take the chance, given Sasuke is weakened. He is experienced, and won't doubt, he has seen enough and already tried to reason to no avail.

Then, there's that short scene which occurs somewhere. Naruto explains to Sasuke how he also hated the village when he was young (because everyone discriminated him) and could have wanted revenge, if it wasn't for Iruka. He considers that Sasuke helped him because he was alone, just like him. But because he couldn't talk to him, made him his rival. This part, surrounded by flashbacks, is a monologue of Naruto, only talking about himself. The fact that Naruto and the Uchiha clan shared the same rejection from Konoha given the Kyuubi incident is a good point, but still, it doesn't justify Naruto's obsession to save Sasuke. Because the last Uchiha was different from young, he was admired, respected, in the Chunin exams people wanted to see him. The differences exist. A bad point is that Naruto leveled Sasuke with Iruka, that's crazy. And not to mention Sakura and Kakashi, or Shikamaru and Choji, Hiruzen Sarutobi, all of them had a role in Naruto's growing. The flashbacks are not really needed, it all becomes too much around Naruto and Sasuke. On this episode, the protagonist has lost himself.
