Betina Pengikut Iblis may not be perfect, but its redeeming elements make it worth a watch
kevin_robbins24 March 2024
I recently watched the Indonesian film Para Betina Pengikut Iblis (2023) on Netflix. The storyline revolves around a father and daughter living on the outskirts of the city. When the father falls ill and becomes infected, they are driven to desperate measures for food and money. The daughter resorts to killing people and scavenging human remains to feed her father and make money in their neighborhood.

Directed by Rako Prijanto (known for The Clerics), the film stars Adipati Dolken (#friendsbutmarried), Mawar Eva de Jongh (My Ice Girl), Hanggini (Fireworks), and Sara Fajira (Kabut).

This film offers a mix of excellent and missed opportunities. The opening leg scene is particularly impressive. However, the acting and dialogue vary in quality throughout the film, and there are inconsistencies in the authenticity of certain scenes. On the positive side, the kills and gore are exceptionally well-executed, with top-notch scenes of flesh cutting and blood splatter. The goat killing scene is particularly intense. The ending delivers satisfyingly kills as well.

In conclusion, Betina Pengikut Iblis may not be perfect, but its redeeming elements make it worth a watch. I would score this film a 5/10 and recommend seeing it once.

Not worth to watch movie
danyieldy-2870020 June 2023
The movie is bad. I expect it to be scary but no. It's just annoying. Especially the guy who portrayed the devil.i don't know what he is. He has fangs like a vampire and red eyes but i'm confused about the character. It really annoyed me. I only wasted my time watching this movie. Lol. The story is really a mess. It gives me headache 😂😂😂😂 the acting also is quiet bad. Please next time make some improvement with the story and the character also, maybe you need to do some workshop to improve the acting skills on every character . Which is very important. Im not a pro ok but i have watched a lot of movies so i can compare.

Bad horror movie
izham-8794323 June 2023
The movie is too flat and didn't scary at all. Love the props and the acting (especially the main actress called "Sumi"), but the rest I'm totally dissapointed and meh. The devil looks funny with his face powder, fingernails and red eye. Not sure if he is the devil or vampire (maybe lost in Indonesia I guess). Then, the storyline also quite similar with Thai horror movie that I watched during my university years. The movie name is "Meat Grinder" if I'm not mistaken. Quite similar the storyline where the main actress (the killer) will sell humans meat at her stall. Nothing new for me but as compared with the Thai version, I would prefer that Thai movie instead.

the storyline flat
blackranchu21 February 2023
The storyline is very flat and easy to predict, the film is far from expectations, the horror scenes are nothing new and many even imitate other films, the quality of the film is far from other Indonesian horror films. The storyline is boring and predictable, and there are many oddities in the film, even though the actors / actresses have played well but the storyline is not good, which causes this film to be bad. It seems that a lot of changes are needed for the next series if you want to compete with other Indonesian horror films, the quality of the stories needs to be changed and improved, in the future there must be lots of new horror scenes.

The devil is called clumsiness
gmelodyta16 February 2023
The early minutes have appeared oddities that spoil the entire film. The gore that is used as the selling point of this film, then the acting of the actors (which arguably do not disappoint) has been shattered by this.

Then what about the devil?

Nothing interesting not even a cringe fall. The devil is noisy and does not describe something that is used as a title. And don't forget the devil's makeup... wow... the makeup looks really weird, you can still see the untouched parts too.

Then the ending, it feels really forced so that there is a sequel. Plus a plot twist that doesn't look like a plot twist. It just brings up huh... "what the heck". There is no clear planting to build the plot twist or the ending.

bad movie

Warning: Spoilers
The plot is eh but what's makes it literally bad is the characters and the acting. Like omg i could not bear to watch it without cringing.

Sari's acting, the other girl who made pact with the demon, was so badddddd that it made me skipped the whole scene where she confronts the doctor. Like why are you being edgy and so weird during the scene that needs tension and anger? I know she was supposed to act arrogant but no an ounce of arrogance on her face. The main character, sumi's acting was not good either but it was tolerable.

This movie made me disappointed as i thought it would meet with my expectations and made me wow like the any other indonesian horror movie would. I am kind enough to give it a two star just because i think it deserved it.

Evil lurks
kosmasp14 October 2023
No Betina intended - I mean no pun intended! Since I know a few Bettinas, I do wonder if they feel insulted by this ... of course that means something completely different and not being aimed at anyone with that name. That all said, we all know the real name of evil .. which you will be getting here too ... to some degree or the other (quite a big one some might say).

That all being said, the movie works on the technical level - and if you don't mind violence and gore/blood quite vividly shown on screen. Of course if you are squeamish, there may be things that you won't be able to stomach. Acting is decent I say, it is more about the mood that this is able to create .. and if you don't care about flaws or logic and common sense ... well there is some scares to be had ...

Devil Seducing Man(in this case woman) Done Right

Warning: Spoilers
Okay this is not sarcastic, I do really enjoy this movie from start to end. From the start of the movie i already feel that this movie is not aiming to be grounded in reality (the dialogue that feel theatrical and over the top, the exaggerated gore at the start, the existence of a tool that feel really out of place from the settings) but i didn't mind any of that because this movie has an interesting story to offer.

This movie shows how the devil manipulates humans by offering friendship and sweet promises. And when humans are tempted and fall into sin, the devil begins to control humans with fear and threats.

I think this movie has a really satisfying ending where everything feel connected to one another even though it has "to be continued" at the end. We can just assume that the devil always has the last laugh and we human are only plaything to entertain him.

Yes it has some plot hole here and there, but overall i really enjoyed watching this movie. I have seen many bad indonesian horror movie and this is not one of those.
