Veteran TV comedy director-producer Marc Buckland has signed a two-year overall deal with Warner Bros. TV to work on pilots and series. The deal will start in June when Buckland’s current pact at Universal TV is up. Buckland previously worked with Wbtv on the NBC drama series The West Wing, on which he served as a director, and on the Fox comedy pilot Strange Brew, which he directed and executive produced. Buckland’s extensive pilot resume includes NBC’s My Name Is Earl, for which he won a directing Emmy, Grimm and most recently NBC’s comedy The Gates last season. He is repped by ICM Partners and Esa’s Paul Alan Smith.

Exclusive: In a preemptive buy, Fox has taken in a single-camera comedy from the husband-and-wife writing team of Ken Marino & Erica Oyama, producer Will Gluck and Sony TV with a significant penalty attached. Childrens Hospital co-star Marino is set to topline the project, which he and Oyama have based on the life of another couple, Sam Calagione, founder of the popular Dogfish Head Brewery, and his wife/business partner, Mariah. According to the producers, this is a show about a couple who are working on their American Dream, a couple who support each other, inspire each other, are madly in love, drive each other crazy, build a company from the ground up and blend their employees and children into one big happy family. NBC has passed on the "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot, produced by Charlize Theron, The Wrap reports.
The network's decision to skip the modern-day "Hatfields and McCoys" drama comes as a bit of a surprise, considering the success of History's miniseries on the legendary families and the cast that had joined the pilot: Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen, "Risky Business" star Rebecca De Mornay and "One Tree Hill" alum Sophia Bush had signed on in addition to Nick Westrate, Patrick John Fleuger, Jesse Lee Soffer and Annie Ilonzeh.
NBC's "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot centered on the legendary family feud in present-day Pittsburgh when a startling death reignited the battle between the wealthy Hatfields and the working-class McCoys for control of the city. De Mornay had been cast as sophisticate Mary Hatfield, the mayor of Pittsburgh, Marsden was set to play tough as nails McCoy matriarch Eloise with Bush joining the project as her daughter Emma.

Here is Deadline’s annual list of The Overachievers Of Pilot Season. For anyone, landing a pilot is a major accomplishment. These selected few took that achievement to the next level. Related: Pilot Season: The Overachievers 2012 Aaron Kaplan. Proving that his fast start as a producer was not just beginner’s luck, the former Wma agent has become a force to be reckoned with during pilot season. All five are comedies — ABC’s Pulling, Bad Management and the untitled Cullen brothers project, CBS’ Friends With Better Lives and NBC’s The Gates — as are Kaplan’s on-air series, ABC’s The Neighbors and Nick at Nite’s Wendell & Vinnie, as well as another Nick pilot, Instant Mom. Vulture reports that Kyle MacLachlan will be making a return appearance to How I Met Your Mother. Do they really want us to remember the Zoey storyline we've all worked hard to forget ever existed?
I don't know what to think of this. The NBC pilot The Gates has replaced Aasif Mandvi in favor of Greg Germann. Mandvi is a great talent, so that's discouraging, but I'd also welcome Germann in another comedy role.
2 Broke Girls may have wasted its Super Bowl spotlight on an ad that only emphasized that the jokes are still lazy and hacky, but they did have the wisdom of getting the faboo David Lachapelle to direct the ad.
Dallas is getting a little bionic with a recurring role going to Lee Majors, as EW reports. Majors will play an ex of Sue Ellen.

With Fox's new comedy series Ben and Kate, likely dead after the network shut down production last week, co-star of that series, Echo Kellum, has booked a guest-starring role on NBC’s comedy The Gates, replacing Justin Chon after a table read. The Gates, which is based on the British series, is an adult ensemble comedy set at the front gates of an elementary school drop-off, and revolves around the parents, school staff and the social minefield they navigate at the beginning and end of each school day. The show centers on type-a Helen (Kathleen Rose Perkins), who just moved to town with her husband Mark (Ken Marino) and their 8-year-old daughter...
