Very good technical skills but a bit too much

There is always a hint of romance mixed with pessimism in Erik's movie, sweet and sad at the same time. That's why I love his works. There are also a lot of fantastic film editing techniques shown in his movie. This short film, however in my opinion, has gone a bit too far in showing techniques. In a few occasions the director seem to employ sophisticatedly edited pieces just for the sake of showing how technical he can become. But what happens is the underlying plot, the smoothness of the story, and the soul of the movie become weakened / undermined.

Nevertheless I am a big fan of Erik after watching his 2 short movies (Nashorn; Forever Over) and I will continue following his new works!

Pretentious and uninteresting

Warning: Spoilers
The title "Nashorn im Galopp", which means basically "Galopping Rhino", says it all already. These 15 minutes are the most pretentious attempt at movie-making when somebody tries to get the city of Berlin, love and friendship along with identity crisis into a movie. Needless to say that director and writer Kai Schumann did not succeed here. I find it pretty embarrassing that so many awards bodies decided to acknowledge this short film. It's all style over substance. There is no heart in this movie, it all feels artificial and the drama feels really irrelevant I must say. I cannot say that I cared for the main character a bit and the time travel reference was simply embarrassing near the end. Young lead actors Tino Mewes and Marleen Lohse are slightly known here in Germany, but their work here is certainly not among the best they have done in their careers so far. Not recommended.
