Not sure where this is going
magnumgrimlocke23 February 2023
Love how they solve every problem in one episode. "Neanderthal that smells like gun oil"; so, of course, the person behind the door hired to be the bodyguard is a woman. Chen does not feel the need to apologize; Harper's husband apologizes; Nolan apologizes. Chen is the best at undercover. It is getting to be too much. Writers, watch Season 1 and go back to that, please. Domestic terrorists are militia members, which usually suggests right-leaning. This is LA. I watched the Shield and there was a lot of gang-on-gang violence. If you do not want to show the real world, then turn Nolan into Castle or Malcolm Reynolds, bring in more references and have fun rather than push a message.

No no directors what are you doing..filming with body cams???
stelladpz24 February 2023
Noooo....guys, I love this show, why put it in a 3rd rate movie class with the body cams! I work on HD screens the whole day...now I must watch poor quality body cams...sorry, does not work for me...and the background noise...I understand you want to tell the story as close to the real deal as possible but I'm watching this for entertainment If I want to watch a documentary.... I will switch to the real life channels....so please do not show 50% plus of the show shot by body cams. Really looking forward to a gooooood future episodes, filmed with a proper Camara, like your fans are accustomed tooooo.

That's gotta be the worst Rookie episode ever
aykut-b23 February 2023
Dear Ryan Krayser, sorry you have to read through this but I have to be honest, brutally honest if I am to be any help. I love this show, I can't get enough of it and there have been bad episodes now and then but this tops all of them. I'm gonna be straight and list the problems. Comic relief is too much, one liners and cliches are over the top, cam footage style didn't work at all due to fast-cut edit which is almost always problematic itself unless you wanna be the next Michael Bay, lens selection, huge variation in images, some footage not being remotely realistic, barrel distortion in vehicle cameras. Other than that the start and the end part that doesn't use cam-footage have visibly bad lighting, like a sitcom. Overall this episode was a failure, I encourage you to try out new and other things but proceed with caution and don't ever stop second guessing your work so you get better, I thought half an hour if I should write this or not and I have no intention to demean you, have a good one.

Are You Kidding me ??

The Rookie is one of my 3 most favorite shows every week and consistently gets an 8 or better rating - EXCEPT when the brain dead showrunner that likes "Dashcam" Shopcam" and BodyCam videos that are a combination of ridiculous and distracting. The Producer that is in love with this type of false distracting realism ought to be flipping Bodcam hamburgers at MacDoanlds and leave entertainment to somebody that knows what they are doing - as for the show itself - hard to tell if it was any good or not with the continuous timer scroll at the bottom of the screen when in a car, or walking around - almost impossible to focus on the action with a bodycam pointing down the arm to a gun doing something - very disappointing and pretty much a waste of time. By my count this may be the 3rd time The Rookies has used this type of video - it didn't work the first two times - if you keep repeating something that doesn't work - isn't that the definition of crazy.

Distracting camera work
maregeldenhuys29 April 2024
The constant switching between cameras were so distracting that I could not focus on the story. I started counting the angles taken in the 'shop' for example. All the angles were labelled as Shopcam in the view, but is it really possible that so many cameras are issued as standard in police vehicles? I find that highly unlikely.

Very sad that a good story is ruined by something like overactive camera switching. I get the need to be creative, but not in a tried and trusted formula for a serialised show. If you ant to do this, then add it in gradually, but the whole show? Nothing was on a standard camera normally used in the show. The effect was just jarring, and not fun to watch.
