I am loving this show because it something that I can watch and I know all the characters. It is no longer looking like it is going to try and be a smart show. They just give you nice visuals and an understandable story. As long as you know what you are going to get from this, it is all good. Turn off your brain and enjoy.
I am giving this a 9, because for me, I like it, it is not a 9 compared with a 9 that I would give to a show like The Wire, but it is a 9 because I look forward every week to watch this and it delivers right at my expectations. If I were to compare it with The Wire, I would give this an 6/10. Because it is not terrible, but it is not a very good show either. I can't recommend this show to anyone. I can watch it by myself. It's my guilty pleasure. Something I wouldn't openly recommend, yet I can't miss an episode.
9 out of 10 because you know, the drama between the cops, it is just funny, just to give plot armor to Tommy. It would never make any sense in any real life scenarios. Two cops acting good cop, bad cop with one another just to jeopardize the case. It is funny. I don't want to spoil the details. But you know. When you watch it, you know.
To the writers, I'd implore you to take a page from "The Wire." If there's to be another season, aim higher. We don't need another soap opera like the original "Power" series. And please, create a more formidable adversary for Tommy. Each season seems to rehash the same formula: a new boss emerges, only for Tommy to eventually take them down. It's time for something fresh.
Here's an idea: dial back on the plot armor. Let Tommy evolve into the savvy veteran he's meant to be. He's been in the game long enough and has been mentored by some of the best. Yet, he's often portrayed as getting by on luck. Next season, add more suspense. Introduce a villain who's truly a force to be reckoned with; someone dangerous and unpredictable like Omar Navarro, untouchable and threatening to Tommy in every conceivable way, including his family and Mireya. Because I think it is time for us to see how dangerous really is the game of Power.
