. . . than the feature ALEX CROSS, action flick director Rob Cohen points out what happens when you subtract $144 million (or 87.5%) of the dollars from a movie such as his earlier offering, THE MUMMY: you're left with ALEX CROSS, a $23 million bargain basement bin flick. THE PSYCHOLOGIST AND THE BUTCHER: ADAPTING AND FILMING ALEX CROSS contends that American film-goers are too stupid to detect any difference. But since CROSS came out AFTER several post-MUMMY ticket price increases, it managed to trick the U.S. public into paying much more for much less! ALEX CROSS begins with the title character's team cornering a rapist among the infamous ruins of Detroit's one-time Packard car factory compound. This is a fitting analogy for today's Hollywood, rapaciously gobbling the budgets of state after state run by star-smitten governors with "tax credits" (Detroit notoriously went belly-up as soon as CROSS came out on DVD). Once upon a time Tinsel Town raised its own cash for fare such as THE MUMMY. Now it's making trash like ALEX CROSS at the expense of American taxpayers!
