Attack of the Meth Gator lets you know what you’re in for right from the start as cops raid a Florida meth lab only to have its operators make a run for it. As Shane wades across the swamp, he drops a bag of meth. That’s when we see a giant gator’s snout twitch as if it’s smelling something. Then it goes straight for the meth, then goes for Shane, and one of the cops in a drug-induced frenzy.
In response, Mayor Jensen (Nick Wilson) hires Skylar and Twain (Tristen Amason) to take care of the gator discreetly, and before the tourists start arriving for the Memorial Day Weekend. Needless to say, they quickly become gator chow instead. Sheriff Williams...

Like Jaws before it, the release of Cocaine Bear earlier this year has resulted in a slew of natural horror films, many of which are using the same conceit of an animal driven to extreme behavior by the consumption of narcotics. Projects already in production include Crackcoon and the delayed Methgator, created by The Asylum. You can probably guess their plots.
One animal-on-drugs movie that has already seen release is Cocaine Shark. Whereas that film treated its subject matter with an unabashedly schlocky approach, though, the more recent Deep Fear takes a similar gimmick and plays it with a straighter face. It could be the perfect post-summer movie for anyone who wants a fun cinematic trend taken a little more seriously.
Set on a yacht sailing around Grenada, Deep Fear centers on a woman named Naomi (Mãdãlina Ghenea) who, during a sailing trip to see her boyfriend (Ed Westwick), gets...

The mockbuster industry is a fascinating entity. Chief among the studios that specialize in mockbusters (ie. low-budget knockoffs of popular studio titles) is The Asylum, the company behind the "Sharkando" films. In 2023 alone, The Asylum has released a riff on "Cocaine Bear" titled "Attack of the Meth Gator," the latest installment in its "Transformers" ripoff franchise, "Transmorphers: Mech Beasts," and its own animated version of "The Little Mermaid" featuring the voices of Steve Guttenberg and "E.T." star Dee Wallace. And they say cinema is dead!
Shane Van Dyke, the grandson of acting legend Dick Van Dyke, got his start as a writer on the mockbuster circuit, penning films like "Titanic II," "Paranormal Entity," and "Transmorphers: Fall of Man" for The Asylum in the late aughts. Around that same time, he also teamed up with his brother, Carey Van Dyke, to co-pen the studio's "Street Racer" -- a riff on the "Fast & Furious" films,...

Who knew movie-goers had such a hunger for movies about animals on cocaine-fuelled rampages? In less than two weeks of release, director Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear (read our review Here) has racked up over $50 million at the box office. In the build-up to the release of that film, a news report about New Zealand police recovering more than three tons of cocaine that was found floating in the Pacific Ocean got people talking about the possibility of a Cocaine Shark movie… and the idea was even passed along to Banks, who said, “Jaws with cocaine, I don’t see how that loses.” But as it turns out, Banks has been beaten to the Cocaine Shark idea by prolific low budget filmmaker Mark Polonia, whose own Cocaine Shark movie is so far along that it has already secured a distribution deal with Wild Eye Releasing, and a trailer is already online!

In the wake of the Elizabeth Banks-directed Cocaine Bear, which has now snorted up $53 million, the low-budget indie horror scene is hard at work in their attempts to capitalize on the film’s success. Coming soon, The Asylum will be unleashing Attack of the Meth Gator, and Bloody Disgusting has learned that Wild Eye Releasing has their own mockbuster on the way.
Coming soon from Wild Eye Releasing? Cocaine Shark, of course!
We don’t yet have a release date for Cocaine Shark at this time, but the official trailer has been unleashed this week. It looks, well, let’s just say it’s about what you’d expect…
In director Mark Polonia‘s film, “A mafia drug lord has unleashed a new, highly addictive stimulant on the streets called HT25, derived from sharks held captive in a secret lab, and which causes monstrous side effects. After an explosion and leak at the lab,...
