Sex & Nudity

- Characters can be stripped down to their underwear, however this is heavily discouraged due to the game's reliance on equipment.
- Some skimpy outfits (for males and females) are available for players to use.
- Some lines of dialogue, a lot of them not shown directly to the player, make references to sexual acts, prostitution, arousal, and in one occasion, sexually transmitted diseases.
- There are some instances of characters appearing naked. However, intimate details are blocked by light glares, smoke, or other objects.
- Some male NPCs (non-player characters) are depicted shirtless.
- Some characters, both male and female, wear revealing clothing.
- This is the first Final Fantasy game to feature same sex marriage.
Violence & Gore

- With the exception of a very small handful of specific ability effects, there is no blood during gameplay. All instances of blood are limited to story cutscenes, shown staining character's clothes or faces, or being coughed up.
- Story cutscenes contain stronger instances of violence: People being shot, stabbed, sequences of war, and so on.
- Combat is very flashy and stylized. Players fight all kinds of enemies, including humanoid soldiers, beasts, machinery, and other fantasy creatures.
Profanity

- The words "shite", "bastard", "arse", "damn", and "piss" appear occasionally in dialogue.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

- There are several taverns around the game, and players can encounter characters consuming alcohol, some of them intoxicated.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- Some enemy designs can be frightening to younger players.
- Some story moments, especially starting from the Heavensward expansion, can cause a strong emotional reaction on players.
