A Major Improvement Over Revelation
jeremycrimsonfox26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Masters of the Universe: Revolution is the sequel to the controversial Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a series that has become infamous for angering fans due to the trailer being a bait-and-switch, and how it was done. However, seeing this sequel series, it feels like Kevin Smith and company actually listened to the fan complaints, and tried their best to fix things.

Set after the events of Revelation Part 2, He-Man and the Masters launch a successful campaign to save the souls of two fallen Masters from the collection of Scare Glow, ruler of Subternia. However, things take a sharp turn when King Randor has an organ failure and is about to pass away, immediately thrusting him to inherit the throne, but needing to give up the powers. This is made worst when Skeletor returns as Skeletek, having been modified into a cyborg by Mother Board's virus to lead her cult of technology-worshipping cultists against the Masters, who use magic, to infect Eternia with said virus, a plot orchestrated by none other than Hordak, the leader of the Evil Horde and Skeletor's former master.

As I have said, Revolution seems to have fixed a lot of the problems and controversies Revelation has. One of them is making sure Prince Adam / He-Man has more screen time (as the first part of Revelation got a lot of fan backlash for how the first episode was done, and how he was absent until Part 1's final episode). Basically, the story has Adam experiencing tough times as he is forced to become king of Eternia in his father's passing, a story I feel is a lot better than what Revelations had. Also, Revolution goes as far as to delve into more of the characters' past.

For the characters, we get a mix of returning and new. Skeletor/Skeletek is back, still voiced by Mark Hamill, but the true villain is Hordak, the leader of the Horde, voiced here by Keith David (who is best known as the voice of Goliath in Disney's Gargoyles), who does a good job playing the villain who is mostly known for being She-Ra's enemy (and before anyone asks, She-Ra is not in this, possibly due to rights issues, as Dreamworks is said to own the rights to make TV shows about her). And they even have Keldor in this, voiced by William Shattner. As for other character, they bring in more obscure characters who never appeared in the original cartoon, like Rio Blast and Snout Spout, but the biggest suprise to be in this is the appearance of Gwildor, the replacement of Orko for the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie that is a cult classic, but was a box office bomb, and even making the movie's events canon.

With iconic voice acting and a good story, Revolution is a major imrpovement over Revelation, and it makes it interested to see if they keep this up in future seasons.

Nostalgic!!
taruanshumali25 January 2024
Felt quite nostalgic as I am 80's and 90's kid. It's definitely one notch up and you will feel that uppercut. Lot more moments of "yessss"" rather than "naahhhh". Very well paced!.

It was so much of fun to see RAM Man back in action, Teela doing her sorcery thingy and Evil-Lyn playing "Good-Lyn". It just feels like a good modern tech upgrade but still carrying that old vibe.

Skeletech, damn!! He is good...this so definitely better then recent reboot's that were released on Netflix, way way better then those. Very well written and presented with decent background score. Totally loved it and lived it. Just 5 episodes with rock and roll.

A vast improvement!
halfelfpaladin26 January 2024
The first half of Revelation was simply horrible, but then came the second half and it was better.

Revolution, however is great!

This is what happens when the fan voice their dislike of something, and when those in charge listen to the fans. It hits all the right spots, the characters are acting as they should, they are recognizable, the Easter eggs are all over the place, which is a good thing, and the lore is there, those who have been following MOTU trough the ages will recognize all the proper implementations of the various alterations of the story. There is a bit of everything and it is well connected in to a coherent story recognizable for MOTU.

I hope there will be more and if they continue as they do we will have a great new MOTU show.

That was really good!

Warning: Spoilers
Now the first 3 episodes finally got me what was lacking in Revelation (which I liked anyway): real emotional connection with the characters. I also really enjoyed the last 2 episodes, but felt them to be a bit too rushed. We finally got the kiss, we all wanted to see since we were kids, but it was too quickly cut short with humor. Still it was really good.

The cliffhanger got me excited again. Considering the fact that we saw a glimpse of Adora being kidnapped as a baby and not showing the face of the female horde soldier who saved Hordac in the end, I have high hopes for it to be her. Making Adora the next new villain of the show - oh that would just be it. Bring She-Ra in to this, please!

Furthers the story.
unclemichael-3145925 January 2024
I enjoyed parts 1 & 2 of Revelation. That said, I really enjoyed Revolution. I was a bit disappointed Revolution wasn't given like 7 episodes but, they crammed a great story into what felt like a mini movie. Another downside, many supporting characters weren't given time to shine. I've seen a lot of fans take issue with certain things, mostly because they go into this thinking they're getting Filmation 2. That company no longer exists and it's foolish to expect more of that. One thing I really liked, the core characters have matured and the fans aren't insulted by these characters remaining like it's still1980-something. This is very much a more mature take on He-Man, the cheesiness is gone and there's an actual story vs the bad guys are sent back to Snake Mountain vowing revenge. The stories aren't resolved in a half hour and the side of good has actual work to do to win the day. The two end credit scenes are very interesting, the first, you wonder how that'll play out. The second, if you know the stories beyond TV, you know what a season 3 & 4 might bring.

A big improvement on Revelations but why do these writers hate the Universe?
julianmarku30 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I watched this season with negative expectations, I was waiting for the hammer to drop any time. I was intrigued to see that it did not.

I would say that they improved the character writing for" Randor, Duncan(man-at-arms) Teela, He-Man, Adam even Skeletor.

The story was mostly pretty good. The one thing that keeps falling head first in the mud is the writing which is so full of contrivance and convenience.

1) Randor dies and some guy just showed up without any evidence and says: "hey, I can be your king. And he just pulls some technology that he doesn't explain. And he gets the job, just like that..." Adam? Not gonna talk to your mum or Teela about this? Not even your life long confidant Duncan?!

2) Skeletor giving the technovirus to Andra, the beautiful, strong, empowered, brilliant, flawless genius who somehow does nothing with it but give it to the people... why not study it? Find a way to reverse it?

3) Adam can't be a warrior King. What exactly does Adam being king add to the throne? Is he even trained for that? Why not have a counciler to the king while he is away? A "hand of the king"? A "attendant? A "Stewart of king"? A "council of representatives"? A "prime Minister"? A "vizier"? Or just simply: "Queen take the throne while I save the world. Duncan you want a day as king? Does anyone want to be king for a day?!"

4) introducing democracy to a monarchy that doesn't even have a University or council or mayor's, chieftains, or anything. Basically inserting modern politics into a fantasy Universe of swords and magic. Have these writers ever thought that a magician could just cast a spell that turned all the votes or mind controlled the people?! This very season, they were mindcontroled and joined Hordak! At least start with a civil council or a house of representatives before you skip to "el presidente".

All in all I want to ask the writers: "Why do you hate this fantasy Universe?" You could write anything and you have to go and write about politics?! You choose the single topic that has no escapist value because that is all you know how to write?! Then. Just. Leave it. Leave it for fans or writers who are specialists of swords and magic stories to write it!

Outstanding
pmnnh27 January 2024
I can't believe how good this was. I'm so hyped for the next part. Keep it up with this kind of story telling. It doesn't compare at all with Revelation. The animation was just beautiful and smooth. U need to give the animation team a round of applause and a raise. I mean everything was such an awesome spectacle Revolution also fixed a lot of the complaints the fans had in a nice way.

The design of the corrupted skeletor, Hordack, he man teela....so cool.

The word Cool describes this part perfect Yeah I highly recommend the fans that were disappointed with revelation to give this a shot. U u don't like this then I don't know what more u would want.

The Gathering Hordak.
southdavid7 February 2024
Though much derided in some quarters, I quite liked Kevin Smith's MOTU: Revelation. This follow up series was, he later revealed, guided by the Netflix algorithm to be five episodes instead of 12 and honestly, I think the algorithm was spot on, as this is a much leaner and better paced run.

With Skeletor (Mark Hamill) haven fallen under the thrall of Hordak (Keith David) and Motherboard (Meg Foster) he attacks Eternia again, with his new technological powers. Though he's repelled by He-Man (Chris Wood), the assault brings about the death of King Randor (Diedrich Bader). Prince Adam then has to decide whether to take the throne or continue as his protector alter ego. Before he can decide though, Randor's estranged brother Keldor (William Shatner) returns and offers an alternative.

Never any issues with the look of this version of "Masters of the Universe" and again this looks tremendous. The vocal performances from the returning cast are good and the addition of William Shatner, Keith David and John De Lancie only improves things. There's a little less humour this time, not none, but a little less certainly 'knowing' humour. The best performance probably comes from Lena Heady, whose Evil-Lyn returns and continues to be one of the few characters on a genuine arc.

As with the second half of "Revelations" the story is focused and tight and is all the better for it. There are very few diversions, with even the potential "fetch quest" aspect of the Sorcerous' story being completed in just a couple of episodes. I hope that the viewing figures reflect the improvements that have gone into this run, as I'd certainly like to see more.

MOTU REVOLUTIONIZED
jak-4491925 January 2024
I don't review often. I saw the previous series done by Kevin Smith get bashed and was disappointed at how many people hated something great. This sequel series did a fantastic job, just like the first, of melding the classic with the new. I wholeheartedly enjoyed this. From the cheesy one-liners to the new exciting conflicts and realizations of classic characters. The only gripe I have is the amount of episodes. I wish I had more. I saw tons of hate online already, and it's one of the only recent shows in memory that I sat down and binged because it was entertaining as hell. That's what it truly boils down to: is this entertaining? I think the way Kevin Smith approached a modern He-Man just does that. So please don't listen to those people saying he ruined it. I never once thought he did while watching this show. I just had fun, which these losers can't seem to do anymore.

Highly entertaining
jmiew28 January 2024
Well written by Mr Smith and extremely entertaining to watch, just like its predecessor.

I did feel it was let down by the loss of Sarah Michelle Gellar, her voice was much more fitting to the character compared to Mellisa Benoist.

It was great to see some old favourites from the comics, and movie and the addition of the great William Shatner never fails to add entertainment.

One of the previous incarnations of the He-Man story gives away this story so if people have seen that then they will fully understand what will take place but that does not take away the enjoyment and enthusiasm of the shows brought By Kevin Smith. He does a magnificent job with these and I as a fan hope he continues to make them.

Redeemed!
Paul_Rizzo25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
THIS is what Revelation should have been. This was a fantastically told, epic and worthy update and continuation of the Masters Of The Universe legacy. Very smart writing with many inside jokes, references and nods to the various incarnations of the IP from over the last 40+ years. The animation is beautiful, the music is on point and the voice acting is much improved over Revelation. The character redesigns are brand new and fresh but feel very much at home in this universe.

The scope is huge and the story plays out organically and sensibly.

And the final scene leaves it open to a very exciting possible future.

Well done Kevin, you listened.

An improvement over Revelation, but Smith still doesn't get He-Man.
bm_oidpay27 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For starters, Masters: Revolution is a vast improvement over the atrocious Revelation. It's perfectly clear that they listened to fan criticism, and tried to fix things.

But, it's also apparent that Kevin Smith does not like or get He-Man, as a character.

When Randor dies, he faces a false dilemma: will he lead as king or protect the people as champion. Why not both? This is challenged only by Man-at-Arms, briefly on one scene and dismissed just as quickly. On the other hand, Teela sets out to learn ALL the magicks (Zoar, Ka and Havok), even if their nature is contadictory.

When the city is attacked, he fights in a back alley to save a single boy, while the real battle happens on the main street. In Filmation, he would have done both. When Keldor appears, he takes his story at face value and even reliquinshes his crown, without a second thought or even a small inquiry. Even if it means that he accepts his father and grandfather as racists! In Filmation, he would have consulted his friends, at least.

Smith, still views He-man on DC terms, a child in a man's body, Shazam without the wisdom of Solomon.

And that's the problem, which was also the issue in Revelation. Smith sees Masters as an OR, magic or technology, lead or protect, monarchy or democracy. When it has always been an AND, Conan the Barbarian and Star Wars....

On that note, the city of Eternos never looked as a set from Xena in Filmation, it had always been a mixture of high tech AND medieval style in wonderful, bold colours.

And who cares for democracy in that setting, are going to see election fraud on the eternian primary, next?

Anyway, 5 for the sincere effort to fix the mess from Revelation, for the better characterization on everyone else (Teela, especially) and the good intentions.

Production values and art, excellent as the last time.

Very good
guestjoshua25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I totally enjoyed it apart from the politics at the end I for one love having a monarc. I know each to their own ! But I just feel it was yet another chance for netflix to have another go at our institution as they have with the crown and the bore fest of Harry and Meghan .

I do hope the bring in She-Ra and there is another season and it original she-ra not the soppy one . I enjoyed that series don't get me wrong but that's for that series and not for this if it's true to itself .

I know the bought other incarnations in too but I think that this would spoil the series and actually spoil the narrative of the modern she-ra . Voice of teela was a lot better and if you can have chemistry come through a cartoon then that real life couple nailed it Well-done all I enjoyed last series but this one was 40 waited and worth it .

Great season.

The story is far better than season one and focuses on HE-MAN and SKELETOR!!!

I think the voices of fans were heard and someone pulled their head out of the pander verse.

I loved every episode and am excited to see more.

Great idea to focus on the HORDE and Hordak for a better part of the show.

Really excited to see how they handle Despara becoming She-Ra.

There is lore that expands the show and i will say they handled it really well.

There was actual canon they used in new ways to make a great show.

I do hope season 3 brings in the Snake Men as they have a great arc for story telling.

juddmandeville26 January 2024
This show covered all the nostalgia from all masters of the universe's worlds and spun it all into a really fun, entertaining, intense story! There's so many easter eggs packed into this JAM!! Kevin Smith got all the bases covered in this show, the art, the voices, the story line. I can not imagine how any fan growing up watching MOTU couldn't get pumped, nostalgic, and be able to appreciate the attentive detail Kevin Smith and his team spent putting the time into all these episodes. It made the Revelation series so much better and I can't wait to watch all of it from the start!!Good job Mr. Smith! Made my day!!

Masters of the Universe: Redemption
stevenonstage27 January 2024
I watched the first episode of Revelation, switched off in disgust and vowed never to return.

I saw plenty of reviews which confirmed I made the right choice.

This is an entirely different show.

While it does pick up from season 1, there is an almost complete absence of the misandry and virtue signalling that defined Revelation.

The result is a show that feels exactly like what fans wanted to see the first time round.

Beautiful animation, cool story turns and heroic men and women working together without resentment.

I binged all 5 episodes and had a great time despite the odd technology driven storyline.

This is an action-packed show about good and evil, heroism and friends banding together to fight tyranny.

Just like it always should have been.

They pulled a Picard season 3 here and we all need more of that IMHO.

Made an account just for this review...
rstemetzki29 January 2024
I thought the first attempt from Kevin Smith was pretty terrible, but I tried to give this one a chance and hoped he had learned from mistakes from the revelations, but the writing is just as horrible as the first time. Sure we get more he-man, but the writing and dialogue are absolutely terrible. I see a lot of these reviews saying the show is "redeemed" and are giving 8/10 and 10/10, I have to assume these reviews are either bots are people held at gunpoint. Is it better than the first attempt? Sure. But not by much, most of the characters spend their time expositioning so hard it sounds like they are reading from the Wikipedia of the show. The animation is amazing, but it's too bad they couldn't get better writing, characters spend most of their dialogue explaining the story to the Audience in a very unnatural way. If this is supposed to be the "grown up" version of this show than why does the plot feel like it's written for 4 year olds?

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Revelations, despite agreeing with most of the criticisms. The bait & switch was a misstep, and the arcs and events would have been better served as a season 2. Regardless, there is still a lot to enjoy in that series.

Revolution is a huge improvement in almost every aspect. If I'm going to nitpick, I wasn't fussed on Battle Cat's voice, or Lyn's nursery rhyme. I really am hard pressed to complain about anything else. Everything else I thought was a great mix of lore from every iteration of Masters. This really does deserve a few more seasons.

Only reason I've not given this a 9 or a 10 is because it does feel a bit compressed. Likely because it's designed to work as either a definitive end, or open enough to continue if it's well received.

A nice continuing.
DarkVulcan2914 February 2024
I liked last years Revelation, now was it perfect, in no way, but entertaining. I watched Revolution and I say was a little better, cause it goes more into humanity of the characters. Feeling like a mixture of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

The animation is still good, and the voice acting is also great, William Shatner, Mark Hamil, and Keith David to name a few. There is an homage to the 1987 film Masters of the Universe. I also like the way it shows that He Man may be like the Superman, but also shows he needs a team to back him up. I also like surprises you won't see coming. It ends with you wanting more.

Where the heck is Stratos ? The Snout Spout show !!!
xavierfranzo26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched the fifth and the whole thing, this is very good , Snout Spout stole the show once he makes his entrance, Stephen Root special delivery!!!!!!

I rate it as a 9 because Smith hid some of the best characters around as Stratos who had an Irish / Celtic accent in all shows from the past. Can he hire Colin Farrell to sound it from the Eire?

The lack of Stratos on the show at the end only 3 cameos, that's why I didn't place a 10.

The plot is amazing, and Hordak is like a corporative executive pulling the strings from behind, Leech amazing drawing amazing monster as for Grizzlor and Mantenna , everything about it I love it, and the twists we have two or three around good writing.

Granamyr is great in there too, is the final hero and the journey of the hero, and his fate !! Granamyr is the last action hero and his hesitant opinion about humanity. The touching moment of the 5 episodes

Zodac at the end was a plus, and fan favourites Orko and Cringer were at best. Glad to see Moss-Man back at the end, to give him a myth continuity among others like Sorceress who could reappear if needed.

I guess Mekanek and Man E Faces will appear in part 4, and Snoup Spout will have a leading role with She Ra ( who appears at the end as a brainwashed officer of the Horde) as it apoears to be now as he was back with Filmation , the only master of the universe sent there to help out the rebellion against Hordak.

I can see Duncan running for presidency with the new democratic Republic. Is the obvious thing.

He Man gear is great but he has to remind as He Man and stay as the hero . Champion.

Must watch it Bravo Kevin but bring the Irish Stratos to the Story and Snout Spout having a go against Grizzlor Leech and Mantenna.

The Democracy idea at the end is really really well written, how a monarchy was outdated. I can see Queen Marlena bigger role in the next season as She Ra and Snout Spout going with He Man to rescue Adora from the Horde .

Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't super looking forward to this due to season 1 being decent but not great, but this season surpassed my expectations and they even brought in Keith David possibly my favorite voice actor of all time. Great love story and father son relationship story, skeletor origin which I had no idea about. Gotta hand it to Kevin Smith on his season 2 redemption, and hope the show does well enough to get the whole talented cast back together. Can't wait to see where the show goes from here and hope it keeps panning out the history of eternia, oh and lastly shout out to the animators I loved how colorful this season was, check it out :)

Great show, loved the nostalgia.
dearssilver30 January 2024
Have to say after the poor 2nd season I was skeptical about how this one would be, but after finishing it all it's a definite improvement. Loved all the little Easter eggs throughout from other series & movies, and seeing some of more of my favorite characters good and bad was a great nostalgia hit. Looking forward to seeing where the next season takes the story as bringing in Hordak opens up a great opportunity, the only thing I though took the shine away from the show was it got political at the end. Even my 13 year old questioned why it took a political turn, he also said he was gutted Skeletor keeps losing.

Can't get worse
aleksandarkokeza26 January 2024
This is even worse than the first show...well somewhere there. I can't believe one man can make sooo many mistakes and miss the MOTU story completely! So disappointed, such a waste of time, money and opportunity! There is so much things, in almost every scene. The whole time I watched it, I had the feeling that I'm watching something else, some other space story and not Masters of The Universe. Don't have any desire for Kevin Smith's story of Masters of the Universe to be continued because it goes from bad to worse, maybe he is good in some other things, but MOTU is not one of them and never will be!

NO need to watch it folks!

Some of the best MOTU storytelling ever.
spidersixx27 January 2024
Binged all in one sitting. This season plays like a solid movie. Loved every bit of it. Incredible animation, epic action, and surprising amounts of genuine emotion. This is some of the best He-Man storytelling ever.

Each iteration of the Masters universe has new takes and borrows from what came before. That's what's always fun about this franchise. It's designed to be "played with". The toys were the same. Here's general characters and now you make the story unfold.

I was caught off guard by how some characters were used, but then I kept watching and really loved how it all played out. Really excited to see what comes next.
