Ducky's back!
lbowdls23 May 2023
What a great episode, that other reviewer must be mad. Anytime David - Dr "Ducky" Mallard - McCallum makes an appearance it elevates the show and my spirits. And he even pulls out his old 'Man from Uncle' reference, with an alias of Kuryakin for an old Russian spy. This is classic.

Even without the references, but thank goodness they are there, this a great episode, dealing with espionage which is usually dealt with by NCIS Los Angeles ( can't believe it's leaving our screens ) a bit of personal relationships happening too. It is a continuing story so can't wait for the conclusion, but hope it all works out well. Definitely one of the better ones for the season.

A nod to the past
C-R-197020 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe not the best episode of the season but definitely one of the best.

One simple reason. An appearance by wise old Ducky.

He gets less than 2 minutes of shared screen time with Palmer, Parker and McGee, via video in MTAC. Yet despite the short duration he manages to make a reference to his character from the old TV show The Man From U. N. C. L. E.

There's a lot more of a story in this episode than some of the previous ones (the one involving Parker's dad). It references and tries to tie up loose ends from previous shows involving Russian spies. No need to worry too much if you missed those episodes the major plot points are rehashed in the NCIS bullpen similar to how they usually go over suspects and known associates.

One of the best episodes in a while!

Warning: Spoilers
The 20th season of "NCIS" has not been great. Most of the episodes have been fine, but a lot of them have not been very exciting. "Kompromat" is one of the better episodes of this season. It's far from great, but is very enjoyable.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of "Kompromat" are great as usual. The episode is well-directed, the music fits the scenery and the acting's pretty good. So nice to see Ducky again!

. The mystery is intriguing for the most part. The story is definitely going for the threats of today's climate, but it comes off quite frightening. Tension is quite well build up, am interested, where the story is headed next.

But...

. Some of the dialogue is exposition-heavy and not all of the jokes hit. The laugh about cannolis felt rather bizarre and overdone. Too much of the episode deals with the relationship between Knight and Palmer, which has gotten less and less interesting over the course of this season. Casey is still a bit annoying character for me.

Overall, a fine episode.

6/10 HK.

This was the usual great story, intrigued , and surprises and would have been a usual 8 but for one glaring mistake - the back story of Dr Mickey Mouse and the Kick Ass agent and the kiss that almost made me throw up. I now realize it isn't the actual misguided romance that is destroying NCIS for me but the fact it is destroying what is left of the chemistry between the characters - if it wasn't for Ducky making an appearance this would have been a one. Dr Mickey Mouse is no longer providing the much needed humor but adding to the nonsense of a romance that is killing the show - it is a shame because even without Gibbs, Tony and Ziva the show would still have gone on for me with good stories but the chemistry is now gone thanks to an ill advised romance between a wimp and a warrior - I may skip the second part and next year all together - what a shame.
