An overexaggerated comical depiction of college education, 'Por' neither does justice to its title nor its audience.

Yuvaraj (played by Kalidas Jayaram) is a huge dumb jerk, begging to get knocked out by Prabhu (played by Arjun Das), a relatively mature drug addict (who is also a student) seeking redemption. In their rivalry, Gayathri (played by T. J. Bhanu) gets caught, who is a righteous young woman actively defeating nepotism in student politics.

Even Jimshi Khalid's aesthetic cinematography, Sanjith Hegde's soothing background music, and Bejoy Nambiar's excellent direction couldn't save the latter's awful screenplay, which is written for a web series rather than a theatrical film, by which I mean, it is a chore to sit through this never-ending childish war between Yuvaraj and Prabhu, who are constantly distracted by 'other' characters whose names are not even worth remembering.

Bejoy Nambiar, in his attempt to take a stance against ragging, and casteism ends up in turn glorifying them, with unnecessary hype, cool slow-mo shots, and dialogues that only a casteist could write. To conclude, 'Por' was a big NO for me in terms of story, but I did admire the crew's work. Also, Indian Express has given the film a one-out-of-five rating, which I don't disagree with.

Bejoy Nambiar's streak with terrible scripts continues! [+34%]

The number of editing gimmicks in the film is inversely proportional to the amount of effort taken in writing its script. Jeez, can someone write Bejoy Nambiar a good script? The man half-arses his way through such shoddy writing with shots straight out of a music video, and for what it's worth, the music itself is pretty damn good. None of the characters (including the leads) register, none of the conflicts register. There are too many subplots, and too many attempts at messaging.

For 2h 30m, you're subjected to a bunch of random scenes stitched together without any connective tissue. Nambiar goes for a chapter-wise approach though there's nothing that segregates any of them. You have good-looking leads, you have great music, and you have vibrant visuals, but they don't count when the screenplay doesn't try building to anything substantial. I don't even want to comment on the climactic segment - it's just a bloated mess.

P. S. Bah Gawd.. is Sanchana Natarajan such a hottie!🔥

Warning: Spoilers
Looks like the director adapted the way of narration from Quentin Tarantino. A simple college fight story with the seniors and juniors that was triggered by the personal enimoty of a person, yet the screenplay was really good.

One thing which was out of the place was the Kalidas Jeyaram's character.

He was behind 3 persons at a same time, just to take revenge. Once his anger was out, he just patched up with the main character and expected the college also be reunited with the seniors.

Overall, the movie is good, light hearted, and enjoyable. BGM also worked well. But can't watch second time for sure 😊
