If all else fails, always check out the acting. That goes with any series that has run for years. Take your pick. True, the stories get old, recycled... the writers run out of ideas, but if you have a terrific cast, it's still worth a look. This was an extremely well cast series, make no mistake about it, still reeling from the loss of Luke Perry.
Back to basics. The gang has gone through a time warp! Here to stay?? OMG. Uncharted territory without question, though it may be safe to assume the writers are now trying for a "campy" feel; the cars, the sets, the clothing rule in that favor. Also great stuff if you are a retro interior decorator, and I am sure there are some (especially in Hollywood) who are keeping score. Common sense dictates. I also think the writers have been up late nights watching cult tv cop shows or mysteries, as you now have an element of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS here. The ending with the milkman comes right out of that era (only now in color!) with all those hideous facial expressions, including the little old lady in the apartment house hallway just hanging around.
Getting back to the acting. Still good, still there and that's what keeps it going. After all these years, I'm still watching... and I have to confess the 50s' era stuff isn't all that bad, again aimed more for the artistic viewer than the descriminating viewer.
And if you don't like it, watch THE PRICE IS RIGHT.
Yes, at this juncture, the odds favor the gang appearing on a beleagured 50s game show. Stay tuned if you dare. SEASON 7.
