Emma's Sleepwalking Obsession with Numbers Makes Sense Now
Sarah Pinborough's sleep-deprivation thriller series has officially ended on Paramount+. One of the most pressing questions fans have been curious about was Emma's obsession with numbers while she was in her sleepwalking state.

Not many horror and thriller ventures approach sincerity when delineating mental illness, trauma, and isolation through their narrative, but Paramount+‘s psychological thriller series, Insomnia, seemed to be one of those rare ones that do, at least from the first four episodes. The eerie, ominous visuals, coupled with a captivating score, realistic depictions of mental afflictions, and emotional family dynamics, made the majority of the viewers feel quite convinced about the series’ potential brilliance. However, by the time the finale of the first season came to a close, the drastic change in tone and treatment, which diverted so much from the initial approach as to end up changing the genre of the show itself, will surely have resulted in the expectations of the viewers being hampered. Despite that, there’s still a chance for the changes to be rectified with a continuation of the series, as hinted primarily by the ending of the first season.

After building up a psychological thriller mixed with possibly supernatural elements over the course of the first four episodes, Sarah Pinborough’s Insomnia took a dramatic turn in the fifth episode, which led to the series suddenly adopting an unexpected revenge thriller twist in the sixth and final episode of the season. The result is a divisive, kind of confusing conclusion, which might not sit well with some viewers, as in the guise of subverting expectations, the series dropped a much more interesting plot development for a simplistic, run-of-the mill ending.

Insomnia is a new British thriller series on Paramount+ that does a fair amount of genre switching within its comparatively short six-episode runtime. Perhaps this switch is to be expected, for the maker of the series, Sarah Pinborough, is herself a writer with cross-genre novels in her repertoire, and this thriller series is also an adaptation of her own novel of the same name. The plot is centered around Emma Averill, a woman about to turn 40 who fears that the inexplicable psychotic attributes of her mother will start to show in her as well. But Emma’s usual life is suddenly challenged when her estranged elder sister and an old acquaintance turn up, together with the symptoms that she has feared all her life. Overall, Insomnia is quite enjoyable if taken lightly, even though the mind-bending suggestions at the end give an unsatisfactory twist to the tale.

The Fifth Harmony sisterhood runs deep. Following the release of Normani’s album Dopamine on Friday, her former groupmates Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello shared sweet messages for the singer over the last few days.
Dinah, who recently released her own solo track “Ocean Song,” is the latest member to post about the LP. “Congratulations on your first album release!! only bad bitches keep this on repeat,” she wrote on Monday, before mentioning her favorite track on the album. “Take My Time is my mooood Ahhhhh!

“I know what it feels like to be in a position to put out records that I don’t believe in,” Normani has said of her time as part of Fifth Harmony. Maybe that’s the best way to describe the lengthy gap between the girl group’s last release in 2017 and the singer’s highly anticipated solo album, Dopamine.
Normani’s 2019 hit “Motivation” drew inspiration from early-aughts trailblazers like Beyoncé, Ciara, and Ashanti. She’s since described the track’s dance-pop quality as not enough of a challenge for her, which is probably why you won’t find any Fifth Harmony-style club bangers on Dopamine. Instead, the album embraces contemporary R&b trends, deftly balancing hip-hop and soul with collaborations with Starrah, Gunna, and even James Blake.

In her review of Normani’s debut album Dopamine, Mankaprr Conteh points to the pop-r&b singer’s “creative reverence” for Black culture across its 13 songs. For Normani, staying true to her identity as a Black woman across the LP was more than intentional. It was necessary.
When speaking to Rolling Stone about the album that dropped Friday, Normani shared that she felt like she was “showing up” for herself by embracing her Blackness after feeling like she had to mute it while she was a member of Fifth Harmony.

People have been clamoring and clowning about the whereabouts of Normani’s debut album for a pop-music eternity. The singer made that noise sound pretty fucking silly when she recently reflected that part of the delay was due to her parents’ simultaneous cancer diagnoses. Normani first announced that her solo debut was in the works in 2018, not long after the girl group she came to prominence in, Fifth Harmony, pumped its breaks for an indefinite hiatus. She went on to drop a few massive features and singles (“Love Lies,” with Khalid; “Dancing With a Stranger,...

Every week you tune in to the Vicky McClure starrer Insomnia, and you see her character going downhill much worse than the last time. That’s how the show’s been so far, and the fourth episode is a 50-minute ride to hell. I don’t mean it in an insulting way, but at this point you start feeling sympathetic for the privileged lawyer whose mother went cuckoo, and now you see the same thing happening to her, but the consequences she faces are much worse. At the end of the third episode, Robert has found out about Emma’s nighttime self-destructive routine, and the aftermath of it is anything but nice for our protagonist. Here are the major talking points we get from the fourth episode of the Paramount Plus show.

Crave’s management is eyeing a breakthrough into the top three streaming services in Canada, as its parent Bell unveiled its 2024 season Upfronts slate today.
In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Bell Media VP, Content Development & Programming Justin Stockman outlined a “multi-pronged, multi-year” plan to break into the top three by subscriber numbers, which is currently occupied by Disney+, Prime Video and Netflix. Crave has around 3.1 million subs at the moment, which has ticked up slowly over the past 24 months, but Stockman and Bell President Sean Cohan are aiming for bigger and better things.
“Crave is doing well, but we think it could do better, which was Sean’s statement,” said Stockman. “This is a growing country and there’s lots of opportunity. So we’re back to see Emma Averill’s insomnia sinking her life inch by inch, just like it did to her mother. The last episode ended when two detectives showed up at Emma’s doorstep, telling her about Patricia possibly being murdered. Emma obviously feels guilty because she smothered her mother to death. It’s not easy to deal with the aftermath of a murder, but in the third episode of Paramount Plus’ Insomnia, Emma actually handles things pretty well considering what she’s done. So here are a few important questions you might’ve had after finishing the episode.

Just when the loony mother grabbed Emma’s hand, the first episode ended, leaving everyone wondering what happened next. Well, we see Emma panting and rushing her way to the car to see the red spots her mother caused on her flawless white skin. Patricia terrorized and traumatized her two little girls when she lost sleep all those years ago, and now she lies dead in a hospital bed, looking like somebody’s traumatized her instead. The second episode of Paramount Plus’ Insomnia is titled Bad Blood, and if you don’t immediately think about the Taylor Swift song, you are probably the right audience for this show.

Not being able to sleep is no joke, especially when your mother has traumatized you for life. Directed by Borkur Sigþórsson, Insomnia is about a woman who’s about to turn 40, but the number is rather scarier for her than others. Emma (played by Vicky McClure) is a bigshot lawyer with a healthy family, but as her 40th birthday comes closer, she’s torn between her past and the present.

What happened to Patricia?
Emma and Phoebe’s mother, Patricia, started having mental breakdowns weeks before her 40th birthday. Patricia would be wandering around the house, with her face looking paler than that of a corpse. Her little daughters weren’t able to figure out what was wrong with their mummy, and her delirious behavior affected both of them. Patricia told Emma that she’s got the same bad blood as her, and she’d end up just like her.
