- In 17th-century France, young D'Artagnan and his father are robbed by bandits claiming to be musketeers, who kill the older man. In Paris three genuine musketeers Athos, Porthos and Aramis, members of the royal bodyguard, constantly at loggerheads with the Red Guard, a military force introduced by Cardinal Richelieu, are sent by their Captain Treville to locate a missing comrade who was carrying letters to broker a peace treaty with Spain. D'Artagnan spends a night of passion in an inn with a voluptuous stranger Milady, but next morning she has disappeared after killing the Spanish envoy who has the letters. She is a spy for Richelieu who aims to discredit the king and put him in his power. Accused of the murder, d'Artagnan is helped by the married Constance before confronting the musketeers, who convince him of their innocence in his father's murder. He joins forces with them to find the killers, who are posing as musketeers to have them disbanded, and to retrieve the letters. But with Athos arrested and due to face the firing squad, they must hurry.—don @ minifie-1
- Paris outskirts, 1630. Gascon gentleman farmer Alexandre d'Artagnan travels to the royal court to protest Cardinal Richelieu's crushing taxes, but is murdered by masked brigands, whose leader calls himself Athos. His son, a fencing natural who couldn't prevent the mugging or stabbing, sets chase, hell-bent on lethal revenge. In the tavern where he sleeps, he's seduced by Richelieu's socialite master spy, who sets him up for the murder of her pompous Spanish lover Raul Mendoza. Fleeing the crowd, he's saved by court seamstress Constance Bonacieux. After finding Athos, he insists on a duel to the death, to learn the hard way his protestation was correct, the dashing royal musketeer, accompanied by his buddies Aramis and Porthos, is not his father's murderer. They were all set up, as they presume rightly by the cardinal's guard. Richelieu finds out his mistress cheated on him with Aramis. The musketeers go on a mission to retrieve a missing captain from their regiment. Before the cardinal can execute the royal death sentence on Athos, his impostor, Dujon, is captured and delivered to justice, but the cardinal practices his own version.—KGF Vissers
