The family lore eps are overtaking the triptychs as my fav
printsofdarkness1 May 2023
I'm impressed with the storytelling in this, and Sauce Side Story from last season. I can't recall if the creators had drawn from this well prior to season 12, but this genre of episode is the creative kick in the pants the triptychs were earlier in the series, though seemed to have worn thin recently. When they have Bob, and Linda in Sauce Side Story, telling a story about their family history as a framing device for a story set in the past, with a new cast of characters, it has the effect of making me perk up my ears, lean in, and get absorbed in the narration, same as Tina, Gene, and Louise. The muted color palette of the story-within-a-story, meant to evoke events taking place some 80 years ago, also give the episode more interest. This one even has a Hitchcockian plot concerning Bob's grandma Alice's suspicions about a neighbor. All the more impressive considering, when you account for the narrative bookends of Bob explaining the history of the antique radio cutting into the already slim run time, you're left with 16-18 minutes to get immersed in the core story. If the pattern holds, Loren Bouchard is doling out this sort of episode as a once-a-season event, so as not to wear out their novelty. A very well done episode.

BCS reference? Curious...

Warning: Spoilers
Just curious. Finale of Better Call Saul (((((((spoilers!!!!))))) came out in Aug 2022 and this Bob's Burgers episode in April 2023, so the timing works. The shot with the phone cord and the reflection in the glasses..... homage? Does BB actually reference BCS under a year after the BCS episode aired?? Hmm...

Anyway, fun episode! I was as engaged as Louise the whole time. But also glad they keep these few and far between as I most enjoy the personalities of the current Belcher family.

Ope. Looks like my review is too short so I will sing you a song: I'M not afraid of ghosts! I'm not afraid of sharks! K, bye.

A new all-timer for Bob's Burgers
alexanderelwood1 May 2023
"Radio No You Didn't" is a stellar episode and one of this season's best by far. Engaging, heartfelt, and unlike anything the series has done before, this might be a new all-timer for Bob's Burgers. Although it maybe could have used one or two more laughs here and there, this episode more than makes up for it by injecting a surprising amount of suspense in some scenes and providing all the endearing warmth Bob's Burgers is known for throughout the rest. Cristin Milioti did an excellent job as Bob's grandmother Alice, vocally crafting a charming, three-dimensional character in her first ever appearance. This is a very high-tier episode. I can't recommend it more.

One of the best episodes of the series

I LOVE this episode. It's such a change of pace from the usual formula, and the plot is AMAZING. It reminds me a lot of the movie, actually- lots of parallels between Louise and Alice. What's with the women in this family and almost getting murdered by weird men with round glasses?

Also, the cover of Radio Ga-Ga at the end is just lovely. I'm a sucker for swing AND a sucker for Queen, and the cast just sounds lovely together. Whoever gave this episode one star must not like having fun, because this is one of the greatest episodes of the series yet! I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store, and the upcoming seasons as well.

*sigh"

Warning: Spoilers
This epsidoe was just nbot good. And i say that as a Bob's Burger's super fan!. But not only was is boring and not very funny, but it smacks of the sesne that they didn't have anything bettervto write for the episode.

The only thing that annoyed me the most, is when she calls the cops to tell them about the Spy and they basically laugh at her .....does nobody on this show know the first thing about world war 2????? Ameerica was so paranoid about spy's that they would NOT react in this way in a million years. I know it's a cartoon but this just made me cringe. I havn't cringed like that since the episode about Topsy, which was also absootuely riddled in misinformation. I love this show but sometimes it's very clear that the writers don';t know enough about the subjects they talk about.
