Discovery Channel's Survive the Raft has been firing from all cylinders since its premiere on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
The third episode delivered plenty of talking points, including blindsides, a contestant deciding against stealing $20,000 anonymously from her fellow contestants, and so much more.
TV Fanatic got to speak with series host Nate Boyer about the twists and turns.
Episode three was such a big episode. What was it like to be on the set for it?
It was great. It was cool to see the characters develop a bit more, get a little more comfortable with what we're doing with the experiment itself, and find a bit of a rhythm.
Jonathan had a seizure on the premiere, and a lot was happening. That's a tough transition for anybody. Then you have episode two with the surprise of the swaps and new people being brought in.

At least a couple of the contestants are looking to change things up in the August 13 episode of Survive the Raft, and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek. Russell joins Cj and Elliot as they discuss the new guy, calling him “cool” and “funny” and someone with “a chill vibe.” After confirming that they like him — “I love him, dude, he’s great,” Cj says — Russell points out that means they have a decision to make then: “We gotta figure out if we like him truly, and then we gotta figure out if we like him more than someone we currently have enough to stab them in the back.” Cj certainly seems to like Mykhal, describing him as a competitor, athlete, and someone with a great attitude. “The group needs some more strong individuals,” he explains. But who would they swap? Watch the full clip above to see who he names.

It sounds like the pitch for a reality show – or a horror film. What happens when you put a group of attractive single adults together on a boat and cast them adrift in the Atlantic Ocean? But it actually describes anthropologist Santiago Genovés’ controversial, headline-generating social experiment. Genovés wanted to study the relationship between sex, violence, and the competition for limited resources. His bold attempt to study human behavior in a unique environment didn’t pan out the way he expected. But it did go on to inspire the new Discovery series Survive the Raft.
The crazy experiment that inspired ‘Survive the Raft’
Survive the Raft brings together nine diverse Americans who are challenged to spend the next 21 days sailing around Panama’s Pearl Islands. The cast members include a beauty pageant queen turned outspoken vegan, a self-described Karen, and a Black rabbi, among others. To survive – and win the...

Will these castaways survive the island? In Discovery Channel’s latest spinoff of its hit reality series Naked and Afraid, nine former cast members are marooned on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean. With no tools and no maps, they’ll have to rely solely on what they find in the surrounding environment to survive 21 days and make it to the extraction point. But where exactly is this supposedly uninhabited island? Here’s what we know about the Naked and Afraid: Castaways filming location.
‘Naked and Afraid: Castaways’ may be filmed in the Pearl Islands ‘Naked and Afraid Castaways’ | Discovery Channel
In the season premiere of Naked and Afraid: Castaways, the cast was dropped on a remote island “in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean” that is “hundreds of miles from civilization.” The island and the water around it are home to saltwater crocodiles, wild boars,...

In his new exclusive uInterview, Nate Boyer spoke about how hosting the new Discovery reality show Survive The Raft, especially dealing with the differing opinions of each passenger and the conflicts that ensued.
Boyer explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers that the show is based on an 1973 experiment by anthropologist Santiago Genovés.
“He put 10 people on a raft from radically different backgrounds and they floated from the Canary Islands in Spain to Mexico – 101-day trip. And you know these people with obviously their different beliefs and backgrounds, they brought different skills to the table right,” he said. “And that trip was not without controversy, it was not without struggle. I mean they’re floating across the Atlantic, that’s not gonna be easy for anybody. But you know these people also, I guess, found ways to come together through all this and help each other through the trip and I...

Discovery+ has a hit on its hands with Survive the Raft, a new reality series that puts nine people from different walks of life on a raft for 21 days.
There, they must live and work in close contact as they come against adverse weather, differing opinions, and much more.
It's the perfect social experiment with some strategy thrown in for good measure. TV Fanatic got the chance to speak with host Nate Boyer about being a part of the project.
The project enticed him on the concept alone.
"The idea of these very diverse people being thrust into this environment where they're forced to get to know one another, and they're forced to have not only conversations, but experience things that are challenging, and understand that just because somebody thinks and feels and believes something different than them, it doesn't mean they can't work together."
"It doesn't mean we can't become great friends or close.
